    And this why humpbacks hate killer whales to their core, making sure to save any small creature they might be hunting. I saw a video where the humpback kept on swimming by a diver refusing to let the diver go to her other side. Turned out a shark was lurking around the other side.

      I remember seeing footage of a mother whale keeping her dead baby with her. Refusing to let them go, even though she knew the calf was dead. It was very sad, she was definitely mourning.

      Humpbacks Carry a baby for as long as we do. Not days, months. Some whale species can carry for almost 2 yrs and their babies are predated on. Its beyond sad.

    I wish that orcas wouldn't go after Whales, there's plenty of sea lions and fish . Sadly it takes 2 years in the Womb for a Humpback whale to give birth.

      orcas hunt a lot of creatures. It depends on the place they grew up. For example orcas near New Zeland hunt sharks, other orcas team up with whales to hunt down sardines, other orcas eat sea lions and seals, other eat whales

      Off the TX coast they are allowed to carry w/o a permit but further east the laws are stricter. We believe humpbacks have rights too.

      It was most likely the matriarch that made that first strike. The matriarch leads the pod. That means she also leads them when it comes to coordinating their attacks for feedings. She's responsible for her pod.

      They were controlling the pace. They purposly guided the range to make sure she keeps pursuit, otherwise she would break chase and head to the calf. Their strategy is extremely precise and in sync

      My thoughts, as well.. amazing to see! (Heartwrenching at the same time) Both of these species just blow my mind with their intelligence and the way the orcas work together as a pack is poetic. I had no idea a humpback could swim as fast as an orca.. let alone how she turned on a dime!

    I can't imagine 5 minutes later, when the mother whale finds itself all alone all of a sudden. It's suddenly quiet and she's all alone in that deep vast blue ocean, with the happy memories of barely 6 minutes ago now a distant fade, and the worst feeling possible now taking it's place. And now she has to aimlessly roam around in the vast ocean while in mourning trying to find some purpose to live for and nobody gives a fuck about what has happened to her. Life just goes on for the rest of the world. I'm actually depressed now I need therapy 💔

    I saw a video that had a humpback
    Mom keeps her calf close her. She was able to protect her calf. Orcas are able to kill gray what calves
    easier. The mother was so very sad.Orcas are so smart and work together to kill the calves or any other prey that they want.

Just because they don’t have the understanding of human cruelty(but they just might), they do know their own. I mean, they are pretty intelligent.     This was very well coordinated by them. No time to react. They slammed into the mother's side while the one whale went for the knockout of the calf 😢. What a beautiful yet brutal display of power and aggression. Nature isn't what you watch in Disney growing up.

    I realize this is nature and that's what happens, but you do feel for the mother because of all the energy and love she put into raising that baby, and it's not like she can call the cops or get out her mace....nature is harsh and beautiful at the same time.

      Humpback whales keep their baby inside their womb for two whole years, more than twice as much as hunans, and they're deeply emotional about their children. That's why it was somewhat heartbreaking to watch this.

      The size of school buses doing 50mph high order of intelligence, complex psychology, and the most amazing. Culture= tactics and techniques pasted down the generations that only those specific pods have knowledge of. No even more amazing they have kindness. No wild orca has ever harmed a human. Seen a vid of young boy on surfboard orca approaching fast to tail swipe a sea lion realizes human backs of feet away and even try sharing food with clumsy scuba human who doesn't seem able to feed himself.     Orcas are apex predators. One of them could have taken the whale calf, but they work best in a unified attack. The mother whale turned on them, but it was too late.

    When ppl thinks great whites are the top of food chain in the ocean, they forget about orcas. They even 'slap' their preys with their tail so strong that they can fly a fully grown dolphin out the water 5-6 metres and it seems that one of them even gives one of those slaps to mother whale at the end of this sad video :(

      This was an isolated mother with calf. In a group the orcas stand no chance and the whales even protect other creatures from orcas, including humans.

    Killer whale populations were somewhat kept in check when whaling was done. Maybe some of them need to be culled now. Attacking small surface boats is unacceptable.

      Whats insane too is they will swim right up to humans and its considered safe to hop in the water with them in the wild. Whales are extremely picky eaters and will only eat what their mother taught them is safe.

    I recoil with disgust when humans pick animals off this way, but this footage was absolutely stunning and yes gets emotions running in 10 directions. Im happy those orcas lived another day. Im sad the mother is now going to have to mourn her baby. Im astounded by that first orcas speed and accuracy! I mean seriously! What blow! Im utterly surprised that humbacks can move so agile. Just incredible footage of the wild being wild!

      That’s not much to brag about. Killer whales on average are bigger then great whites and usually attack them in pods. So the great whites are outsized and outnumbered. Would they be able to bully and destroy a megaladon? Doubt it
