- Epic scene's captured on drone of Killer Whales hunting in Port Jackson on Christmas day. This mother Orca is obviously a pro at hunting rays (Eagle Rays) in the shallows.

Wow! I love how she’s passing on her skills to the little ones. That tiny one is adorable! ❤

I love how Momma kept looking back every now and then to make sure the younger one was right beside her! Then the baby suckled for a minute and Momma shook her loose to get back on track with the hunting. Majestic beings! Truly amazing!
I love how many behaviors were observable in this one video! The mother checking every nook and cranny in the beginning, the baby watching everything as closely as it could, the teen sorta hanging back because it's been to a few hunts before, the first two skates that got away and then at the end the teen trying to shake pieces off the prey and the baby begging for food - absolutely stunning!
Wow what a great mama you can see her gently teaching them how to hunt. Then she catches it and the first thing she does is hand it to the eldest then breaks off a piece for the baby. So smart
Thanks to drones, we learn so much in less amount of time spent. This 8 minute video has more info than 10s of hours Nature documentary of the past . We still have find out so much about Orcas and Whales. Wow, great job!
Orcas aren't whale tho. They're closest to dolphin than whale.
@@ED-lk7il I said Orcas and whales! thx
that's the beauty of technology 😁
Superb drone video.
@@ED-lk7il Orcas are dolphins, but dolphins are a subclass OF whale. so technically they are whales.
that's rare footage, not too many have been that fortunate to capture, well done and fair play
What's amazing is not just the teaching of hunting skills, but how the mother Orca ensures that the little ones get to feed and how to share the kill. After incapacitating the prey, she tosses it to her babies, and when she sees one struggling to tear it into bit sized pieces, she intervenes to rip it apart and for them. A wonderful mother and amazing parenting!
I believe every move was practised and intentional. The juvenile didn't struggle; they simply worked together, not just to tear the ray up, but specifically to open it the right way in order to expose the liver, which is what they're most interested in. You can see the juvenile positioning the ray before grabbing it. Other orcas are known for their surgical precision when removing the livers from great whites.
They hardly have the choice to leave them at home.
My absolute favorite animal ... especially after my interaction with a pod when i was a kid at Algies Bay. I am a born Kiwi and I was fishing in between the boats with my cousins. Just little sprats and then something tugged at the fishing line and it was a ray ..., we saw my mother come running down the beach and screaming at us to get back to shore. It was then I saw a dark fin, my cousins freaked thinking it was a shark but I knew it was an orca because it came up for air. They circled around our dinghy a few times, diving beneath it ... all the while I was open mouthed wanting to jump in and meet them. Like most countries there are laws about interacting with wild sea life, but not when they are the ones interacting with you. They seem to know we meant them no harm and would come back again, but in reality i knew they were after the ray. They come so close that i could have reached out to touch them and the vocalizations are just amazing.
I wouldn't get another adrenaline filled moment until I went with my husband to South Africa for our pre honeymoon and a male lion was not 5 meters from us roaring. There is nothing like that. It sends shivers down your spine.
8 minutes and 38 seconds of pure fascination and admiration - what a grateful creature. Thanks a lot!
They swim so gracefully. Perfectly build for speed and power. The baby and junior Orca are so cute. Very nice video sir. Amazing creatures and highly intelligent.
This is just so nice to watch. I loved how mom orca gave the stingray to her kid first, and then he went back to his mom to share. Amazing.
This is a brilliant video. Thanks so much for your patience in filming it. I'm certain you spent a lot more hours to film this than what you show here. We feel involved in every moment of the hunt and you chose the music perfectly, to give a sense of suspense. Loved how you captured a couple of near misses before the final success, and the family sharing of the meal was intriguing. I think we saw the middle-sized one shaking to remove the liver and the liver floating off for mum to eat. Marine nature photography at its finest.
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed it 🙂
@@user-gl5ny1iz3rthey always share . Everybody gets to partake. It's not survival of the fittest.
Great drone capture.
Shows how intelligent this animal is.
Scanning the area in formation like an army platoon trying to close all escape routes for the rays.
Not only that...the fact that he gave his mother the liver of the ray clearly shows emotional intelligence.
Fascinating!
Escape *routes. A rout is a word with a different meaning. How you get to pronounce route as rout escapes me. The rest of the world says “root” for route.
@teeanahera8949 how? Because I'm Human and sometimes we do make mistakes my little spelling bee.
Try platoon.
And drone.
@markfox1545 to all the spelling bees here, thanks for the English lesson, I do appreciate it.....seriously.
What an amazing footage. Just a day in the life of a mama and her two babies.
Beautiful scenery, great video, and perfect music.
This is the video footage that will stay on TH-cam for years to come.
Thank you
They swim so gracefully and effortlessly in their ocean! It is adorable how the calf often swims just underneath their mom, twisting and turning with her
I think the infant must have been suckling for a minute, as well, and then Momma shook her loose, like, "Ok, let's get back on track! We've got skates to catch!" ❤
Calf is "slip streaming" or "drafting"on mother. Takes less energy.
That Stingray was like BRRRRTTTT I'm outta here boys!!!
It's unbelievable how they work as a team, from both sides, as if they planned ahead, discussed the strategy and then applied it. It is amazing, also, how the little one does not wonder off, sticking to mum. And the way she gives food to adolescent, then sharing and also involving the baby at the end...FAMILY ❤️
They do planned ahead. Their communication skills are far more developed than we can even imagine. The fact that we do not understand their klicks and whistles, does not change a thing. IMO. :)
It’s almost like they’re born with the intuition of an Orca.
Awesome video! The mom showed detailed knowledge of the terrain, at first I thought she was just turning side to side for fun, then after the first ray got away I realized she was using her eye to scan the bottom for food. Thanks Mick!
Gorgeous video! Orcas are my favorite mammals in the ocean kingdom! Truly amazing creatures.
Love this video. A family of Orcas working together to hunt. This is the best video of Orcas.
6:22. Love the way the mum casually tosses it to the youngsters for a snack. Brilliant filming :).
Incredible filming, love it. The power of the drone and the power of the orca!
The fluid beauty of these wild creatures is astounding. It makes me mourn the death of Lolita in that miserable, filthy tank even more. Thank you for sharing this breathtaking film with us, reminding us of how things should be and what we should fight for.
Always teaching and keeping her babies in sight. The way she threw the ray to her kids was amazing!
And she made sure the ray was dead before she gave it to them, so they wouldn't get poked by the ray's barb.
Brilliant footage of the orcas hunting out their favourite delicacy!
So cool! What an amazing thing to capture on film.
A mother whale and her two calves. One is probably about three or four and the other one is probably a year old. She’s teaching them how to hunt. How sweet.
It’s an orca, largest member of the dolphin family and not a whale but a whale killer🫡
@@TheDuffman1986 yup.
I'm not sure why it's called "killer whale", more proper would be "whale and EVERYTHING ELSE killer". True Apex, except bull sperm whale, which does bring fear to orca.
Looks like she gave it to him to , fir him to hold, while she ripped off and discarded his stinger.
@@TheDuffman1986 It is a whale. All Dolphins are also whales.
No narration, no stupid music, just pure action! I like that!
i think your audio was off lol
Wow this was so interresting🥰thank you for showing this❤️yes the NZ Orcas love actually rays
For those wondering, it only ate the liver of the sting ray
One of the best drone clips ive ever seen, big ups to you sir
Thanks mate 😎
This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for capturing 🫶🥹😮💨
I agree wholeheartedly! ❤
Outstanding footage. Thank you very much. Shows such an array of behaviours.
One of the most impressive things ive ever seen in my 44 years the intelligence of these whales unreal topman bro cameraman 💯✌🏿🙏🏿👍🏿
Thanks mate 😎
Footage is educational and very entertaining. Fades are seamless, music is well chosen and blends well with a bit of menace and playful complexity . Subjects are an intriguing animal the drone seems to be the tool hats off to the pilot !
Well done !
😎
Stunning and beautiful. An insight we have never been able to witness so amazingly. The water was ridiculously shallow and they were so in there element 🥰
That's absolutely superb footage n the music is just as good.
You may want to remember that by keeping and maintaining killer whales within their facility, as well as other members of the cetacea that they gained valuable skills in keeping them alive as well as health knowledge. This enables them to save the lives of countless pinnipeds, mammals, and cetaceans every year. A vast majority of animals in these aquariums and animal parks were not captured but were either saved and deemed unable to survive in the wild again or born there. As an example, an orca raised in an aquarium is unreleasable because it was not socialized and would likely become prey itself because of an inability to vocalize with any pod it encounters. Every pod has a unique way to hunt and often hunts a different prey based on location.
Great footage Mick👍
How cool is this? Unbelievable smart animals. Thanks a lot for sharing that with us. So amazing to see.
Great footage, good job !
Cool video and it's crazy how they find the rays that are buried on the bottom
Incredible how smart they are and they stay together as a family...
wow that was amazing I loved when the two Orca tore the stingray in half. I never knew they cooperated like that, fantastic footage and a great video.
Funny how the mother sometime takes a look at the drone... just a check while chasing rays...
I'm 38, passionned by this kind of stuff since I was a kid... There is no way we could have these kind of images in the early 90s... We'd literally see nothing since the picture would be taken from the shore and would have last a few seconds... Drones really changed the game.
Nice vid sir, hats off for the shots.
Cheers from France.
Thanks mate
Really nice video, Mick.
That was a fanastic piece of footage. The best I have seen.
The whole hunting routine and even the
teaching of the younger.
Keep up the good work and thank you!
Great video! Thank you. 70 years ago you had to go on a three-week voyage to, maybe, be able to catch a glimpse of that.
That was 100 kinds of fascinating! And beautiful! Thanks for creating and sharing this 😊
I’m more afraid of these guys than sharks. I even think they’re way smarter. They are beautifully dangerous!!! Ok, so that was pretty cute at the end. Not for the stingray, but that baby just watching the older sibling munching away, and what a good mommy.
Beautiful.
How touching she is to share the ray, passes it off, then is handed it back. Poor little ray. Rest in peace.
nature is beautiful but brutal. we dont appreciate just how lucky we are
Or rest in pieces in this case.
They only eat their liver.
Excelente secuencia total. Felicidades Mick
Love how she separated and shared the hunt with her littles one ❤️
Usually I hate music but this choice is really good. Adds to the tension. Can't believe how close to shallow waters they go. Very risky!
Watching mother teach her daughter and niece to hunt the reefs. Then sharing the stigray. Priceless. ❤
Its amazing how fast they move with seemingly little effort. Great video, well done!!!
Mother teaching her son to hunt, so nice. Beautiful animals
Excellent drone footage. The young one is still trying to suckle milk from Mother while she gets the job done.
Now you see reason, why some of the orcas " will stay on the cliff" - nice video, nature in her beauty
Brilliant footage and soundtrack
Love the vid of mum teaching her children life skills
Majestic!, Thank you Sir for a beautiful video, The only pool they belong to is our Ocean.
Wow, this is absolutely incredible.
Great capture 👏
Wow you captured a true gem. I bet they know your following them.
*WOW* ! Stunning footage!
I predict over a million views before end of 2023!
Mum knows this coast line very well, guesstimate an average of 8-10kms per hour, she spent a moment checking out the slot & deciding it was to risky.
Interesting Mick. Our coast looks similar in parts of Cali, and we have skates and Orca. Thanks
Great drone video of the Orcas feeding, really enjoyed it!
Thank you for caring to photo this beautiful mother and cubs and thank you for sharing

Thanks for this spectacular hunt ❤ mother is a great professor ❤❤❤
Beautiful ☘️☘️☘️👍
Everything about this video was perfect! Great job!
Amazing footage! You can clearly see how they work together. Orcas are so interesting. I just started learning and watching documentaries on them like 2 years ago. I live on east coast of Florida so we never see them over here. An amazing animal!!!
Top Job Mick,
A vertaling moment you see the mother stilling on her side, she is watching your drone
not only good at hunting but also good at sharing!
LOVE love them way MORE than human beings. They are the perfect FAMILY. Gently sharing food. Nothing but LOVE and CARE. Better than us humans. Congrats to the background music. From a 4 ever orca adoring fan. Mom and PRECIOUS Babies... My good God.
Here you can see why they get stranded on the rocks when the tide is going out. Fantastic film I love it!! Hunting for rays! Even the music fits perfectly!
Incredible footage!! Tnx for posting.
That was fascinating. Thanks!
Lol. I winced when I saw them split the sting ray, like I could feel the tearing of the muscle fibers.
Wonderful video. Amazing up close footage.
Amazing footage!
There was one ray that got away! That is an amazing piece of nature’s droning!
It's the skill of catching the stingray with was amazing
Amazing and this music was made for this video
Well made video, great footage with an excellent background rythm
This has to be one of the most amazing videos I have seen lately with Orcas! I have studied Orcas for many years and this video is truly phenomenal! Great job!
Magnifique ! Bravo pour ces images exceptionnelles ! From France !
The best video ever. Thank you.
the camera ( drone ) is in another level
and good background music too
"Now remember to share!!" Reminds me of my kids. lol
WOW they don't just hunt sharks for livers, seems they hunt other sea life as well for livers! insane!
