  • A couple years ago I posted a video fixing the screws using silicone. Well they have loosened up again. In this video I explore more screws then just the ones pushing through the rub rail insert. Also I put them back in with G flex. This should hold them.

First off I like your videos, they are nicely done. I recently resealed my entire transom, trim tabs, drain, scupper valves, live well pickup, etc., in other words all fittings and screws. Bought the boat new in 1993 and felt it was time. While I was at it I also removed the rub rail molding and all retaining screws and reinstalled them with the same excellent product I used on the transom, 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200. My screws were not backing out, but they were not tight either. I will never have to do this again in my lifetime, this stuff is great! I have never used G Flex but it sounds like it will outlast the rest of the boat!

artillerybuff2000 a few people commented 5200 would accomplish the same thing. I could have used it for sure and it would probably be a better choice. The gflex has the potential to hold so well the screw could twist off and break if needing to remove. 5200 you’d still be able to intentionally unscrew it. Thanks for the comment. It’s a hobby making these videos. Plenty of straight up insults in the comments. It’s nice to read yours. I appreciate it.

Seeing the many that did loosen I’d have pulled the hole deal and epoxied them all. You’ll be back on this one. Getting close tho. I’ve got the fishing fever too. I’m excited to try my new gear

Nice! And agreed. Probably should have epoxy. But the silicone does seem to hold.

    Curious if you considered 5200?

Charlie Mann in my mind it’s a sealant for under the waterline. Never thought of it. Good call out. I bet it would’ve worked.
