Good evening. I have recently purchased a Bassmaster 1990 Bassskier boat. I am restoring it with my son. I am pretty certain that at least a portion of the rub rail is damaged and causing a water intrusion into the boat hull. I think it is original because of the tattered rope center insert. I mean we are talking "80's, neglected, city-park, plastic-splinter, swing-rope" current condition of this rub rail rope center! I am a little lost at my options as I CAN NOT FIND A THING ON THE INTERNET FOR THIS 31-YEAR-OLD BOAT that was sold by Bassmaster but then bought out by JAY Bee boats then silence. My son and I joke that this is a ghost boat due to a lack of pictures, manuals, or nods to the boat online. I have watched this video and I thank you. What are the difficulties that I am facing if I replace it with a modernized rub rail on my boat.

I removed my rub rail is it absolutely necessary to have one ? I was planning on fiberglassing the joint together with a big sheet
