This was incredibly helpful and exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you for a very thorough and thoughtful look at so many options.
Thanks for the detailed review! Very clear comparison for all the options. I have ordered mine!
Thank you so much, the table comparison is so useful!
Dude, the chart you made for these is such a kind gesture that gives us a comprehensive and straightforward breakdown. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that, and happy to be a new subscriber.
Thank you for saying that. I hope that it helps somewhat make it easier.
That chart helped so much, thank you
Thanks for this vid ! Just ordered magnetic Hons VR , they are on a very good sale now. Cant wait.
Brilliant! Thanks very much for a clear and concise outline of the various options. Double thumbs up ð
I was wondering why it had so little views, and it looks like it just went live.
Perfectly in time.
Thank you for the extreme in depth video that helped to understand basically everything.
I'm planning to buy Quest 3 really soon, but need the lenses as well, so I was searching for proper guide.
Having 6.5+ on one eye and not a lot less on other sucks.
Subscribed, and I'm waiting for more amazing videos
Thank you! Comments like these make me want to keep making more videos.
Excellent video, exactly what I was looking for.
This is the best and most detailed review of vr-lenses I have ever seen, I'm so glad that I found this.
I wasn't thinking off the thickness of the inserts and lenses before I read someone who said that he had to use the space adjuster to use them properly. Thats a big deal if you want to have your FOV as big as possible. It's nice to see them all side by side and hear about your experience.
Thank you for this great video!
Thank you! I have a blast making these videos. I'm thankful for the companies that send the lenses to me to test them out as well.
Nice comparison. Thanks!
Thank you!! This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Glad I could help!
Great info breakdown. Thanks for the comparison spreadsheet.
Thank you! I'm glad it could be helpful.
Great video and appreciate your thoroughness!
Thank you so much for this informative video!
Waiting on my Reloptix lenses. Ordered shortly before Christmas, it was cool to see the breakdown in this video.
Thank you for this! I wear glasses for my PC (my PC with +150) and distance glasses for driving. I took a couple of days of playing with both to figure out I definitely needed to use the distance glasses. This is good information for people. I ordered the Zenni lenses not paying attention to the blue light blocker because my driving glasses don't have that and, except for the bulkiness, don't have a problem without it. I'm glad you confirmed that it wasn't necessary.
Exactly the video I need, thanks!
Good job making this informative video, thx and my best regards ð.
Terrific video, much appreciated.
Great help !!!! awesome video !! thanks ... you help so many glasses wearing VR players =) Thanks
This is one of the best and most useful videos about the Quest 3 on TH-cam. Thank you so much Dr. EyeGuy, us glasses-wearers really needed this!
Thank you!
Thanks for doing this. Your document is way easier than going through the individual websites, and your video shows the thickness of the inserts, which is important for my apparently greasy eyebrows.
Awesome - I'm glad it could help. It took some time to put that together, so I'm glad it can be useful.
Thanks very helpful. I just ordered the Realoptix.
Thank you so much for this video!
You're very welcome!
I got the pair of to the HonsVR, no prescription just to protect the lenses. Best price on the market.
I did ordered on VR Wave using your code. Thanks. Now I wait for delivery in Romania
Super helpful video, thank you. Iâm a retired Optician and just about to purchase the Quest 3. Thanks for your efforts! ðð
Hi! Would you say that -4 is high and worth going for realoptik? ð great vid!
I used your code along with A black Friday deal to get VRWave Quest 3 lenses, just got my Quest 3
Just bought some Reloptix with your code.
I have a -4.50 cyl which isn't even supported by Zenni or a lot of others so glad I found this video. :D
Great video . Wish this was out before I ordered some. Which was just last week. I went with the VR-Rock ones without magnets, because I am the only one that uses the headset and they looked the thinnest. Their price was also good with just under $50 for AR and BB.
Hey, are you happy with the quality of the VR Rock lenses? Iâm thinking of getting them and I was wondering if the overall image quality and FOV is affected by the lenses
I got some random chinese made magnetic frames for 5 usd and left the rest to an optical center across the street. (Got some Hoya with coating but not the blue light, I told them I love blue light)
Thanks for the valuable information! Wondering about the right prescription for working in VR. I use Immersed a lot in my MQ2 on virtual desktops and in the AVP I also felt like I was focusing closer vs in the distance. Is distance always the right choice?
Thanks for video and pdf. I order a pair from vr rock and used the code
Awesome! Hope you like the lenses
Thank you so much. My terrible eyesight has always been a problem. Thick thick lenses and making sure they even fit the frames I want. I decided to try Zenni for glasses just before Covid and they ended up being 200$ a pair. Would've been less than a hundred if it weren't for my bad eyes. I wanted to 3d print Oculus frames some of those Zenni round glasses but never got around to it. Especially not at the cost for my prescription.
Great review of lenses, thanks! I have -7 SPH on one eye and -2.5 CYL and AXIS of 105 - resulting in thick lenses, looking forward to the way reloptix do it!
Let me know how you like them!
Awesome video, useful comparison for what is otherwise a nightmare to get a full review and comparison for.
In the UK so decided to go with HonsVR as they end up being half the price of the Reloptix after shipping is accounted for.
Fingers crossed they'll work beautifully.
I have the Hons one just for protection its called plano lenses i think.
@@blackstaarx2824 nice, do you find they impact how close you can get or the FOV at all?
Ordered the Zenni but find my brow rubs against the top edges. Doesnt affect sight... just annoying. Ordering HonsVR magnetic to see if they are thinner. This video helped alot. Thanks! ð
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you. I am very honored you would do that.
hons vr i would say has the cheapest plano lenses if your looking to just protect your headset lenses from scratches, i got a pair for my pico 4 for 28 USD
First i gotta say your chart is insanely helpful. I was leaning towards one brand and then realized a lesser known brand offered for FREE what would have been a costly add on I feel is necessary. Also, I have silhouette glasses. Would those work as well since they are "frameless"? The big fear i have using glasses in VR is the lenses or frames scratching the pancake lenses. what's the possibility of that?
Hey thanks for this as I was wondering how close the prescriptions really are! As VR rock's base base non prescription lens showed me I have an enormous amount of eye strain by reliving it... So I when to the eyes doctor and got a exam and a prescription and it helps me a ton so I need to get another one for my new prescription. Also I'll get the non reflective coating this time as it's on my persciptionj and honestly you do get glear if you don't have it.
What a great video! A question if you happen to see this sir, I can't see clearly near or far. Are you saying I should use my far sight prescription? Thanks again for the very helpful video.
Just received my Honsvr lenses and they're perfect! I find just sliding the lenses outword a bit makes it really easy to take off. I just wish there would have been a cleaning cloth included to keep the lenses separated in the carrying case. Other than that, they're super clear, and it's so nice to not have to shove my glasses inside the quest.
Great review and info. Thank you! I got the Zennis last Oct when they first came out. They're awesome. Not needing glasses is a game changer--way more comfortable.
Wondering: my prescription changed a bit since then, and I just got new glasses (January). Left eye went from CYL -0.75 to -1.00 and AXIS 138 to 130. Is it going to cause issues if my VR lenses don't match my glasses now?
Good to hear you like your lenses! With a mils change like that it shouldn't cause any issues. But I will say some people are sensitive to mild changes like that and could get eye strain or headaches... most people won't notice that much.
I loved Reloptix for the Q2 but I'll try going with HonsVR this time for my new Q3. Mainly because they have cheaper shipping that Reloptix to my country
Looking at getting lens inserts, do you know if I should be using the Rx from my glasses or contacts if my contacts are a slightly weaker Rx? I know some applications it's safer to use a slightly weaker Rx but not sure if VR is one of those.
Nice vid, i have zenni lenses in my quest 3 but I think i may end up just using glasses when i update my prescription cause i find it annoying when i need to take off my headset for a short period to read something and i need to put on my glasses.
Thank you o just brought hons mainly cause 1 to 2 days as offspring to others saying 14 plus.. and they had blue, scratch pro, anti glare etc,69$I did use your code thank you again
Of course this video shows up on my recommended like 3 days after I order a pair, lmao. I got HonsVR with blue-light coating. Hope they work well! They just shipped.
Great stuff man! I wonder, in your opinion, which have the lowest profile in the corner where your nose joins your eyebrows. I get contact pressure right there. I must have some kind of Neanderthal forehead!
I tried some hons magnetic with -4.5 prescription. They seemed pretty low profile, but they still touched my brow unless I added eye relief. But the thing that I had the biggest issue with was that the frames reduce the diameter of the quest 3 lenses by 3 to 4 mm. I felt constantly aware of them in my FOV. Not sure if that was my imagination or really a thing.
Class of 2012, SCCO! Way to go, Neil!
Hey! Thanks! Who is this?? ð
I got magnetic VR Rock lenses for my psvr 2 with anti-glare and blue light filter. Excellent quality and would recommend
Thanks for sharing! I was hoping people would share their experiences with the lenses they have been using.
I just ordered from Reloptix. They were more expensive than the cheapest option Hon VR. Here are two reasons why I chose to pay more.
1. The industrial design of Reloptix is superior. This video made this very clear.
2. Reloptix is an US company. The reduced distance from me will make any follow up, if needed, easier.
3. The difference in the prices between the 2 options is that of the cost of eating 1 lunch outside in a decent restaurant. Well, if there is really a quality difference, then the price of a lunch is somewhat immaterial.
Can I use reader glasses power to order these lenses? If I can, what is the distance I need to be at to determine the power?
I got the Zenni day one and they are very good. I dont share my headset often so i have no need to take them out but i do wish i had the magnetic kind so i could show my wife things more often. They are great lenses but my eyelashes do brush against them a bit. I have come to kind of like the feeling though. Lets me know my lenses are up close and personal lol
I have the Zenni lenses, which have glare reduction coating. I have slight correction for distance. I find when I'm watching videos with dark backgrounds (i.e. like shows in space environments e.g. Halo) that there seems to be a reflection, or glare, on the lenses that reduces the resolution. I have to adjust the headset carefully as there appears to be a sweet spot in the lenses where the reflection is reduced. If I take the lenses out, the problem goes away but of course I lose the benefit of the correction. I was wondering if you would compare the preformance of the lenses in high and low contrast environments to see which lense performs best? I would think that a lense that comes closer to the quest lense, like the reloptix, would perhaps reduce that glare? Thank for the excellent comparison. Very helpful!
I've bought glasses from Zenni for years. If I trust them on my daily driven glasses, I'll def pick them for my VR too. Especially when they're one of if not the cheapest option out of the bunch and come with all the bells and whistles at no extra cost.
They are a great option
I had Reloptix lenses for my Quest 2 and my Quest 3 lenses arrived today and are perfect. Jason & Will at Reloptix are amazing at what they do for VR users and their Customer Service is second to none. I can't speak highly enough about these guys and will recommend them to everyone!
Awesome! Thank you for commenting.
I went with Zenni simply because I already order my glasses from there and my prescription was already loaded so it was the quickest lol but I appreciate the comparison made me feel more comfortable with my choice
It's too bad they don't sell magnetic versions. My non-magnetic right Zenni prescription Q3 len's plastic edging already broke on the bottom side. It's a bit annoying having to get them on, where as magnetic inserts/lens would by pass the fiddling! :P
Just looking at the options for Australia, where shipping is a make or break on these kind of items. One of the cheaper options has $30 USD to $51 USD postage. Haven't seen any local Asia Pacific / Chinese companies, but i'll keep an eye out (hah), as I expect a few of the Quest 2/PSVR2 and Pico/Vive lens companies to add Quest 3 lens frame/inserts, or alternatives like wire frames and thin lenses. I'd also probably look at some of the forums/reddit to see what the delivery times are like too.
VR optician, Zenni seems to be the most practical/cheaper delivery option, around $USD 80 total. Hons VR looks to be a good choice too. One of the notable options was the VR lens lab "zoom" or aspheric matching. Not sure what effect 7-14% FOV stretch would have, but it seemed interesting and not discussed. Reloptix shipping wasn't good ($120 USD)
leaning towards the VR optician based on the clip and tab, but the Zenni looks neat/clean. I could also get Rx for the PSVR2 eventually, so I'll probably do more research on the better deal(s) and shipping times.
Having said all that ... after dragging out my Rx, It's been 2+ years since I got my current glasses, so, I might just head back and get my script checked before ordering, and I've also forgotten my IPD.
Thank you for the reviews.. I just ordered the Reloptix based on your input. I love the easy to swap + deep set lenses for thick lenses, and they let me input my IPD and my ADD value, other companies did not consider these values.
Van I get different prescriptions for wither eye? And do they account for axel?
I bought the Zenni non prescription and prescription for me. Do you think switching them out when someone else wants to play would scratch the actual lenses
Thank you for your video. I just got my prescription renewed and wasn't sure which company to go through. Your research and time to put this together, along with your document, were spot on and so very helpful. I ended up going with Reloptix and I really liked how easy it was and to know, "Hey everything was all included." Again Thank you.
Just to give an idea of the cost difference with VR-Wave vs reloptix it was $101 USD vs 75.99 USD after your code plus shipping. but the sales tax was included in the price. however, VR-Wave did not include sales Tax, I figure this makes it more than $30.00 USD more for me over the Reloptix lenses. Your mileage will vary depending on what your eyes are like, mine are likely middle-of-the-road bad, halfway to a Coke bottle hahaha.
Awesome comment. Thanks for mentioning the sales tax. I forgot to mention that in my video. I may update my chart document for that. Thank you!
I was not aware that there are multiple companies making the lensesâĶ
so I bought Zenni lenses
- they delivered high speed within 3 business days to Germany - I put them in on May 17th 24 and was happy. Never rook them out.
While putting on the quest yesterday, i saw that both frames are broken through completely - one even in two places.
Reached out to their support e-mail and they will send replacementsâĶ for free. will keep you postedâĶ
Thank you for sharing! I'm curious to what happened to the lenses. Hopefully the new lenses will be great.
@@DrEyeGuy yeah hope so tooâĶ - will keep yâall posted
ok, already got the Fedex shipping tracking number - only 24h + a few minutes after I had written my e-mail to their support - again - they shine with VERY high speed
Zenni are just good
After watching your video, I decided to try VR Optician, They shipped out my lenses on the same day I ordered them and 5 days later itâs already at my doorsteps (Iâm living in Malaysia if thatâs helps) it would have arrive earlier but the shipment reach my Country on the weekend so I had to wait for Monday. The lenses itself is phenomenal, like you said in the video I donât notice it is there at all, the clarity is top notch and the focus is perfect, I canât recommend this company enough for anyone who is undecided
Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
â@@DrEyeGuyThank you sir! If it's not for your video I wouldn't have made this decision, I'm enjoying my Quest 3 more than before I got them, once again thank you for doing what you do
I just purchased from Zenni, they said the lenses are reimbursable with a receipt if you have an HSA or FSA account. Canât confirm this yet since it takes 7 days to get the receipt.
Just had a question about the reloptix as I am almost ready to order a set. I have a narrow ipd, it's only 57. I know I know the quest 3 really doesn't go down that low but I am set at the lowest setting. Will the tabs on the Reloptix hit your nose or anything? Thank you for your help.
I have been using VR Lenslab's frame for a while since I can keep wearing it as my daily glasses. The build quality isn't that great though. I wonder if other brands offer similar product at better quality.
You cannot set the IPD for the Zenni lenses. Or can you move the lenses left and right?
are the Reloptix for Metaquest 2 the same as the 3?
What Iâd I kept the quest 2 on for 14 hours what would it do to my eyes? I need answer
HonsVR didn't have that much spotlight during the video, but their quality is so amazing and they design their lenses based on the community feedback. I'd recommend HonsVR as they also keep their lenses as thin as possible, with no impact in FOV whatsoever. Great video!
You're right... this was the trickiest challenge of this video. There are a few lenses I want to do a dedicated video about... HonsVR is one.
I just got my HonsVR lenses today and I will 2nd this. Absolutely amazing quality. Got from China to Texas in 5 days.
I also highly recommend HonsVr. Bought my lenses for psvr2 and quest 3 and they are amazing.
I went with Zenni, but I wouldn't mind something thinner, like Hons VR. Are they clip on or do they use magnets? The HonsVR looked even slimmer than the Reloptics in the video too, even though they weren't directly placed side by side.
@@80sHolic7 HonsVR has the two types, magnetic and the ones you pressure into place. The latter is cheaper.
I thought Quest 3 not having diopters adjustment is a minus, but then I tried AR glasses with diopter adjustment and found it is useless because of my astigmatism.
Ordered Hons VR lenses, fits perfectly, clear picture.
So prescryption lenses is the only option if you have cylinder around 2.
Thank you for sharing!
Are any of these small enough such that the non-prescription version could be used with glasses? My plan is to buy prescription inserts for myself and non-prescription inserts to protect the lenses when friends use the headset with glasses.
That's what I plan to do. Not just for other glasses wearers, but to protect the headset lenses from dust and other people's eyelash grease.
Given the distance focus, is there no point to include ADD power in these lenses?
Using the space adjuster will affect your FOV! Thinner lenses mean that you don't need to adjust the headset, in turn giving you wider FOV.
Whats best if i have problems with my eye lashes hitting the lens even without prescription lenses inserted? I have about a -2 and im already on the 3rd click to keeo my lashes from hitting the stock lens
I got small round Harry Potter style glasses from Zenni for my Quest. Under 20 bucks with anti-glare and worked great. I'm going with the Zenni lenses for the Q3 as I've been a customer of Zenni for at least a decade. And it is very rare that anyone else uses uses my headset so the easiest removal is not a concern. But small glasses are a great solution for anyone who wants a cheap option.
Good tip! Thanks for sharing!
hi, my perscriptions have ADD +1, how important is it to have this ADD power? or can I get away without them? Thanks.
Hello Dr. EyeGuy! One question. I saw a video from you were you explained that there is a fixed distance in VR (in the quest 2 about 1.3m). So if I type for example -1,5 sph for both eyes when buying the lenses, are those -0,75 sph substracted from my -1,5 sph or are the lenses actually âovercorrectedâ? You said that someone with -0,75 sph is totally fine thatâs why I am asking if they substract this from your actual prescription. Thanks for your great videos !
You are exactly right. They don't subtract this from your prescription, unless you have an add power. Most people don't need it... it would be like looking at a 4 foot target with distance glasses... which most people can do just fine.
I asked my lenses from HONSVR and it took like 1 week to arrive from China to Mexico. They sent it in an envelope so customs did not charge me anything.
VR wave took me about 20 minutes to install, They had an extremely bad shape and did fall out very easily. The magnets are good but the part that clicks to the VR headset sucks big time. I had to put it in and twist it slightly to get it to stick a little bit and even now and then they wall out. The parts I got were 3d printed and had a lot of defects. Stay away from VR wave! I bought two sets, and both were equally bad!
Thanks for a great video. When asking my optimoligist for a RX whst should I ask for? I have near and far sighted. Can I DM you my RX? I got zenni and they were a little blurry. ð Thanks
You want to submit your distance RX when ordering VR lenses.
what to do if the Quest 3's lens itself get's scratched? how to fix that?
Dr.Eye Guy, I am still needing to get a new prescription since havenât for years. I have been reading comments of getting a 4ft prescription for VR. Is this important and is there anything else I should ask or tell the optometrist when getting my prescription. My main reason for getting a new prescription is for VR use.
Yes, talk with your eye doctor. They should be able to write you a specific prescription for it.
Excellent review thanks. One question i have which i hope you ( or anyone) can answer. The lenses that are magnetic leave the ring permanently attached, if someone else were to use the headset that wore glasses would these rings get in the way ?
That's the brilliant part of the design - non-glass wearers have no idea the rings are even there when they put on the headset.
@@WorknTheVerse I meant is there less room. Thanks for replying
@@kevinmeddings749 Marginally less room (most bases insert between the lenses so it remains mostly flush) but with that being said, the glass adjuster in the Q3 is adjustable. I had mine at maximum distance when wearing glasses since I didn't want to accidentally scratch either Q3 or my glasses.
which do you recommend for -5.6?
and trying to keep it cheap?
thanks
A prescription over a 4 or 5 might be getting a little thick for the lens. Reloptix would be good with that bevel close to the device so you wouldn't be touching the lens. But all of these would be good and do great making your prescription.
Thanks for all your VR videos they've been a great help. I printed your 5ft eye test chart and my current distance glasses don't let me see the 20/20 line clearly, they're fine for further away, so would it be a good idea to get a prescription just for VR, one that focuses at about 5ft?
If you can, that would be great. It's possible the focal point is even shorter, at 4 feet. If you can a prescription that is closer to that, then hopefully that should work better.
@@DrEyeGuy Thanks for the reply. I haven't asked an Optician yet. Do you think it will be possible to get a specific prescription for 4 feet?
@chrisnewton2360 yes.. a prescription can be written for any focal point. The tricky part is that I'm not fully positive that is the exact focal point in the quest 3 because they haven't released those numbers yet. But that's how it is in the quest 2.
@@DrEyeGuy Great, I'm in the UK and I think I'll get a pair of cheap SpecSavers prescription glasses made up and if they work I'll get some lenses made for the MQ3.
Is it gunna be bad if I accidentally ordered my reading prescription?
I can tell reloptix are the best because vrrock are too thick and moves because they are magnetic but reloptix have extra secure to stay still and less thick so maybe they don't get dirt by touching my eyes
What is High for you? i have -5.50 / 4.75
Do any of these offer interchangeable bases so that they can be swapped between PS VR2, and Quest 3 headsets?
Does the PSVR2 and the Quest have the same shape lenses? If they do, then they probably do. If not, then they probably do not.
Why is the reloptix case so big? Looks like a tackle box.
What I care about the most is which one is thinnest among all the options for say a -3?
Do you want a magnetic design or click in design?
@@DrEyeGuythanks for the reply, both are fine, which ever is thinnest!
If you wear progressive lenses, do they manufacture the lens for your mid range? Thanks.
@@user-sw9ow2fp9e I saw TH-cam optometry channel who said that the focal length of quest 2 was 4 feet.
Got one from zyber vr. Got them for only 52 cad. My eyes are -4 and -2 astigmasism
