You were amazing!!! I didn't want to even tackle this project on my weekend off but just dove into it head first. The first problem was with a fuel mixture issue after I just had this Stihl weed eater serviced last year. Started it yesterday just to check it and worked perfectly. Added more fuel today and the problem started. Worked through it and then started weed eating and then the line ran out. I don't do this very often so there is a steep learning curve and I don't want to dedicate the time to it quite actually. Anyway, I Googled the line issue and you were amazing a with simple and straight forward instruction. No BS but just simple answers as I was getting quite frustrated with the project already. Now because of your help, my property is back to an acceptable standard with the very little time that I had to dedicate to it. You solved the problem with straight forward information and not trying to be a Google actor or internet sensation. Thank you very much.

I have a Stihl fs56 RC string trimmer and mines has a auto speed feed trimmer head on it it's amazing to use every time I use this auto speed feed trimmer head I put the trimmer line inside one of the trimmer holes then you lengthen the trimmer line to the right link and use the bump nob and wind up the trimmer line to the right link then your all set ready to weed eat your yard
never thought of winding on the line in one length, good idea, the notches on my spool are worn, so it is not so easy thanks for this by the way those brass things are ferrules
Very informative I had a bump line on my string trimmer and switched it to the little Strips to save the stress with fighting with the bump line now I stop more And waste time changing pieces I think next year I will hire the neighbours kids free up some more time as well as eliminate stress so I can feed the birds 🐣more love the emphasis on safe👍🏻
Since you were such a pleasant woman and seemed normal and to the point, I subscribed to your channel. All the years I’ve been using the same weed whacker, I didn’t know you push in on the spool and turn it to keep it in place. I always pushed it in and held it with my fingers to put the cover back on. I really didn’t think I would learn anything, so thanks for sharing. I was trying to see what size line can be used. I bought a big thing of 90 I think it is, and it’s been binding u and not feeding out. I don’t remember what I had before. But was told about this heavy twisted red line and I’m having trouble. Stuff wasn’t cheap. I think I should have stayed with the smooth line. ✌️👍👍
Hi there! Thank you very much for watching and also for the lovely compliment! I've read that if you soak your trimmer line in water, it helps keep it more flexible so it won't bind or break as much! Maybe give that a try, since that line is expensive! Take care and I hope you have a great evening!
Excellent tutorial. For those that want to spend less time changing the trimmer line, install an Echo speed head. Simple, I can replace my line in 2 minutes, and I'm back to trimming!
Thank you very much for watching and for your kind message! Thank you also for that handy tip...that sure would save a lot of time fiddling around with the line while you are in the middle of your trimming job! Take care and have a great day!
Thanks very much, this was so helpful to me today reloading string for the first time. Stihl salesperson suggested either a 20' length to be divided like you did or two 10' lengths..
I have the same weed eater and yesterday i was using it for the 1st time in a awhile and for the life of me I couldn't remember how to get the weed eater string in there the right way lol. And you know how us guys font like to read directions or google anything lol. But finally had to break down and google it and this video popped up so thank ya bunches lol. Only problem i have with mine is after i get the string wound up on the spool and go to put it back on, the string starts unwinding before i can get the bottom plate back on :/ think ima try to put a rubber band around it a cut the band off just before snapping the bottom plate back into place. Ive tried those skill saw like blade and a blade that looks like a throwing star. They work amazing for it too. Thanks again for the video gal 💕
Hi there...thank you for watching and for your kind message! I have seen the different blades for them but never tried them...with my luck, I'd zing off a finger or something lol! Does your spool have those notches on top to click the string in before you put the spool back on to the weedeater? If so, they help with it unraveling but if you don't your rubber band trick sounds like a good idea! Thank you again for watching and I hope you have a great weekend! (P.s. I hate reading manuals too! 😁)
@@alanacawker-therusticwife lol manuals are for losers haha jk. But yea it does have those notches.. but soon as I pull them out of the notches to put the bottom plate on the immediately unravel. Maybe I'm not wind the string on tight enough.

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Good morning David! So lovely to have a visitor from the U.K. Another fella from there tells me how pretty it is this time of year...so many flowers and plants popping up after a long winter! Thank you very much for watching my video and leaving such a kind message! I am also very glad, it is helpful for you! Take care and have a wonderful day! 🌻
If you look on the spool where you started your line there’s another hole 180 degrees to start the other side of line , you don’t start both lines on the same side .
Good morning! Thank you very much for watching and for your message! I definitely see what you mean and I have another slot for the line on the other side, but I find it easier to wind the spool with both lines in the holes one on top of the other. I guess I may be less coordinated 😅 Take care and I hope you have a great day! 😊
Wow that was very interesting I always get it screwed up so now I use a battery powered yard man auto feed and replaceable spools so much easier especially for my pea brain but that is an awesome video no man would ever admit they can’t do it …. You know this eh … well done Alana thank you stay safe god bless 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Hi David! Hahaha....I think you might be right there! My Dad was always so patient teaching me these things and I'm sure glad he was! Your set up sounds great...much easier than mucking about with the line really! Thanks again for watching and I hope you have a great day! 😊
Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching! Honestly, we just pick up whatever line is on sale at the time. We aren't too picky providing we don't get a cheap quality line that birds nests all the time! 😆 I hope you have a great evening...take care!

Good morning Dana! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind message! I am so glad it helps because if we have the daunting chore of trimming weeds, we might as well have an easy go filling the line spool! 😄 Take care and have a wonderful day! 🌻
Hi I am new to weedeating and I just bought a slightly used fs like yours for 210$ and the guy at the store told me to buy the x line .095. Is this a good line for basic yard work and a few thick ditch banks? Would a normal circular string line be just as good ? The string I got seems to destroy grass and weeds but do you think a cheaper circular basic line 80 or 95? Thanks if you can help
Hi there...sorry, I took so long to reply, I just saw this message now. Everything that I read about weed trimmer line states that the round line will last longer than the square, twisted or star shaped line but apparently the star/square/twisted line will cut more cleanly. I think if you are using the medium gauge line (.080-.095) for the yard work you mentioned should be fine. I wonder if you try a different shape of line other than round and see if it cuts more cleanly for you this upcoming season? Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great day!
Good morning Jennifer! Thank you for watching and it is a pleasure to have a visitor all the way from Australia! Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! 🌺
Make sure the weedeater is not running because sometimes you don’t know if the weedeater is running or not-sometimes it’ll fool you you’ll think it’s not running and it’s running because they’re so quiet It’s Easy to confuse it
Hi there! I wonder if the plastic clips at the side of the spool head are broken? The plastic pieces that fit into the slots to lock it in...have a look at those. Also, maybe you need to put a bit more pressure when fitting the spool head on to the spring to lock it into place? I hope those suggestions help...good luck! Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great evening!
@@alanacawker-therusticwife thanks for responding clips seem to be ok Ive tried adding force it won't secure the clips just sits in place and when I press down it won't lock and the center piece doesn't come all the way up to lock 🤦🏾♂️
@ 4:49 you're already doing it wrong I do 4 arm length, then get them even and snip the loop take and put 1 end in the side closest to the bump button...remember the position of the hole...wind it on by itself ...as you get to the end of the line, pop it into one of the the little forks @ 6:17 the next string , you put into the hole opposite of the other one, wind it on, this way the strings are the same length when you pop the other string into the other fork when you wear out the string, they will both be the same length instead of one being longer and wasting it
Hi there! I remember going opposite directions with the trimmer at my old job. I found that when I went the same direction, it was easier to wind. It does waste a tiny bit of line winding the same direction but I know my level of patience and I figure I would have fired the whole spool into the field if I got it all tangled! 😄 Also, I always listened to my Dad and brother's tradesman lingo and just copy them! Lol!! Thanks again for watching and have a great day!

Thank you. My wife was looking this up and it was important for her to find a woman so she didn't feel mansplained
So, your wife is a sexist?
Hi there...thank you so much for watching and for your kind message! I am very glad I could help...tell her I totally understand haha! 😀
Thank you that was very easy to follow you are great at teaching😀👍🏻David, Liverpool UK.
Good job just learned a easer way to string my weed eater thanks
Hi Scott! Thank you...yep, it's super easy! 😊
Best video I watched for
Good job! Nice and simple explanation.
Good morning Michael...thank you very much for watching and for your kind words! Comments like these make my day! Have a wonderful Sunday!
Thank you for your video. Nice pup by the way.
you did a great instructional presentation .thank you
Hi there...thank you very much for watching and also for your kind message! Take care and have a great evening! 😊
@@alanacawker-therusticwife i spooled my sniper this morning as you instructed. worked great. thanks again
@@7basement I'm very happy my video helped! 😊
Nice line what kind of line you use beside stihl line
Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by and watching! Honestly, we just pick up whatever line is on sale at the time. We aren't too picky providing we don't get a cheap quality line that birds nests all the time! 😆 I hope you have a great evening...take care!
Great video! Thank you!
I needed the review.
Thank darlin! You explained this, for my GF, far better than I did! She's from Baltimore and can't barely understand my Texas accent🤣
Hi Bill! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind message! I am very happy to help out, especially if there is a breakdown in accent communication! 🤣 Take care and I hope you have a great evening! 😊
Thank you for your very informative video. I have the same trimmer, it really helped me out.
Good morning Dana! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind message! I am so glad it helps because if we have the daunting chore of trimming weeds, we might as well have an easy go filling the line spool! 😄 Take care and have a wonderful day! 🌻
Great demonstration.
Thank you very much! Thank you for watching and I hope you have a lovely day!
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful!
A right Corker. Thanks, love from Wales. :)
Huge help! Thank you so much!
Our one shows to start each string on opposite sides of the spool
Very nicely done.
Thank you very much! I hope you have a great day! 🙂
So clear and helpful

Thank you so much from Australia
Good morning Jennifer! Thank you for watching and it is a pleasure to have a visitor all the way from Australia! Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! 🌺
Make sure the weedeater is not running because sometimes you don’t know if the weedeater is running or not-sometimes it’ll fool you you’ll think it’s not running and it’s running because they’re so quiet
It’s Easy to confuse it
Very helpful, thanks 😊
Thank you for watching...have a great day!
My cap won't lock in it won't stay secure and always falls off any advice would appreciate it ?
@blackasia8193 Good morning! I can't think of why it won't lock into place...perhaps the spring is broken? I hope you can solve this mystery!
The trimmer will cut the access string off with the guard to the right link
That is so handy!
Thank u for the tutorial. Ur the best Cawker I know 🙌🏽
Great job girl
Hi there! Thank you very much for watching my video and for your kind message! Take care and I hope you have a great evening!
Very helpful!!!
Very helpful 👌
WELL DONE !!! THANKS
@ 4:49 you're already doing it wrong
I do 4 arm length, then get them even and snip the loop
take and put 1 end in the side closest to the bump button...remember the position of the hole...wind it on by itself ...as you get to the end of the line, pop it into one of the the little forks @ 6:17
the next string , you put into the hole opposite of the other one, wind it on, this way the strings are the same length when you pop the other string into the other fork
when you wear out the string, they will both be the same length instead of one being longer and wasting it
Hi Chris...thank you very much for watching and for the tips! Take care and have a great day!
no konečne niekto kto povedal-napísal správne👍👍👍
Thanx, great vid!
Good morning...Thank you very much for watching and for your kind message! Have a great day!
I think I went different directions with ea. Line,?
Who taught you the words bird caging?
That's electrician talk
Thank you so much!
You are very welcome and thank you for watching!😊😊
Thank you! It takes a woman to explain to a woman. The man’s video was no help. I’m sure being a widow will get easier. Word to the young women “Watch your husband “

32 feet the spool can hold.. 16 on each side ✊🏾
Thank you! Good tip...I will fill the spool with more line next time! 😊
