I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Excellent video! Everybody else just shows you how to re-spool not how to take it apart from step one to the end. 10 minutes and I’m a master thanks again.

Just got my first Stihl weed trimmer (FS 56 RC) after using another brand for a couple of years. Putting the line back in can be different by brands so I wanted to make sure I did this one the easiest and quickest way. Thanks for the video! It makes it clearer on how to do this.

You should dedicate your channel to these types of issues. Small engines etc. you are very good at getting your point across. Also very well spoken. I think you could do really well with your channel.

After all these years of fighting to reload the head, your video walk-thru clearly shows how it functions and how to easily load it up. Somehow, many years ago, I got it in my head that the line was to be wound in opposite directions. I loaded it up before watching your video, it'll be unwound today and rewound like you showed. Thanks! I heartily agree with Flickchaser's comment below. I enjoy your tree climbing videos and great communication with your ground crew.

I remember hearing/reading long ago that the line had to be wound in opposite directions. Somehow I found out that was bogus information, at least with the STIHL I have.

    Great video, thanks
One minor thing you said : 12 1/2 ft. for 0.095 line
    Stihl's specs are for .095 = 33 ft total or 16 1/2 ft each and for .0105 it's 23 ft. or 11 1/2 ft each
But I think you said if you use a little less it makes it easier, so no biggy.
    Thanks again!

Hello friend. I don't speak english, but I created a question about this stihl autocut 26 2 reel and found your video. the translation of someone who is quite confused, but I managed to understand you. I finally managed to solve my problem. Congratulations on your explanations. Aki in Brazil, this reel is still little known. I'm going to work with pleasure for the service now. Great video, very clear instructions - but - I goofed. I thought you were demonstrating the installation and re-stringing of the Stihl AutoCut C26-2 String Head. I just purchased the AutoCut two days ago and I don't think I will ever go back to the original string head. This thing is wonderful but it is also very new (to me) and I would love to hear what others are recommending as far as string diameter and general care to keep it working like new...... If you have the Stihl C26-2 *please* add it to your page. It would be a very helpful tool. Thanks for your help - it's an excellent video.

I just purchased a FS 91r this morning, I got tired of buying new string trimmers every couple of years from the box stores. I am not in the lawn care business so this trimmer should last me many years on my 1/4 acre lot. One of the frustrations with trimmers has been rewinding line.
Your video showed me that both lines are wrapped in the same direction that is new to me! And good! My last spool I really liked was one that you push the line through the middle of the spool and twist the spool it worked great. But it will not fit on my FS91r
Your video should resolve my head aces with rewinding in the future. Good job on the video.

I've got a FS 90. I'd always had cheaper weed wackers too, but I can't believe how much better the Stihl is to maintain, start, and use. Just gotta be careful with these things, as they will throw stuff a lot harder than with the cheaper ones. Don't know why mine works so much better, can't describe it, but it just does. That being said, I hate winding the line on these things...

Thanks man, I took the Autocut head off of my KM131r because it always felt really fiddly trying to respool it. Well I didn't realise you could lock the string down with those tabs so mine was always firing back up at me (and then usually birds nesting) - annoying as hell!
Well I think I'll dig it back out and give it another go. Currently using an Oregon speed feed head which I do like, but it hardly takes any line at all. Hope you are recovering well dude.

I'd love to see someone from stihl fit 16.5 feet on one half of the spool. That's ridiculous to even put that in the book or on there video. I just replaced mine for first time tonight and and tried the 16.5, but its definitely more like 12 feet as you suggested. What a pain.
I'll be using your "wind both halves at same time" method the next time.
    Thanks

One thing that makes a difference that I learned from a Stihl dealer is to store my string in water in a tupperware or a ziplock bag. The string gets dried out over time and brittle. Keeping your string in water seems to make it cut longer without welding to itself or breaking.

Best tip I ever got was to spend $25 and buy 855 ft. spool of line and never, ever try to put string back on a spool once it’s been installed before. I have a lifetime of new string now, and an extra head. Stihl Autocut C 26-2 is compatible with the 25-2 and is SO much easier to thread up correctly!

Everyone has their own preference, but personally I had the manual feed heads. Every time you need new line you have to stop, get line, install, then get back to it. Much more efficient to just get good at restringing them. Also helps using the standard round line, doesn't bind up anywhere near as much. All the nifty shaped line you can get is really just a gimmick, though I've no evidence to back that up with.

  • @stephenbozzone1116

    Two very important points:
    1) Soak the string in water for 24 hrs if possible. Nylon gets brittle. It’s very hydroscopic (absorbs water) and the water will make it more ductile, last longer and not break off inside the head.
    2) The 4 holes in the spool are different sizes. You need to use the correct hole for the diameter string you’re using. The same sized holes are opposite each other.
I’m an engineer, I know these things 🤓.

Why does the line continue to not feed out when I bump the head? It’s absolutely infuriating. I wind the head the same way and one time it last for an hour, feeding smoothly, and the next time it binds up and won’t feed and I have to take the whole GD thing apart. Thanks.
