Thanks for the video. Lately, like over the past five years, I have had more bad eBay experiences on traditional Snap On stuff than ever. I have a higher tolerance when looking for something vintage, discontinued, or unique, but regular sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers, I usually get new now just to avoid the bad taste of a sour ebay deal. Unless the item is described as new, it's certainly not.

The seller did give me back some of the money, so I'm probably not out any money (hopefully), but annoying to deal with. eBay is certainly less consistent than it used to be. Thanks for visiting the channel and especially for the comment!

I think those are awesome sockets, I know the name commands a premium and it sounds like you got stung a little bit on the advertising of the Ebay listing. That being said despite the hefty price the time spent not rounding fasteners, or not slipping off of nuts and bolts in my opinion is well worth it if you can afford it. I've used plenty of the Husky, knock off brands and mostly Craftsman, but the few tools that I have that are Snap-On a lot of times are a joy to use, even though I pay through the nose for them. Nice pickup and thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks! I'm sure whoever buys the original set will be happy with it - I just can't keep them for a variety of reasons.
As far as the rest, I'd say that I haven't had any issues with rounding fasteners. For the last several years my chrome sockets have mainly been my Tekton set, with the Icon later entering the picture and sharing the load. That time has seen multiple complete suspensions, motor mounts, brake jobs and other maintenance and repairs on the family fleet, so they've definitely had the chance. Living in the South means I don't have to deal with rust very much, so that probably helps.
Anyway, the big differences between my sockets tends to be things like how many blanks they share across the sizes and a few other things I'll cover in the "shootout" comparison I'm doing in the near future.
Thanks for visiting and the comment!

@@themessygarageyou didn't use a caliper or measure the interior flats of your used set. Having a burr on a socket is one thing, but what matters are the flats and interface with fasteners. If you don't even measure that or give us a closeup, maybe you don't have an eye for the things that matter.

@@sasquatchrosefarts lol - maybe I'm waiting to do all that work for the upcoming ratchet/socket video? As much as anything, "what matters" is I didn't get what I paid for, and I don't have any desire to have that in my garage and be reminded of it. I'm sure the new owner will be very happy with them, and they won't have any negative surprises when they open the box...

Just let me understand.... You SOLD on SO 3/8 sockets because they had been used? You arent a Pro Mech are you? These are not jewelery, they are tools. Walk into a workshop and go up to a middle aged Mech who is paying a mortgage and keeping a couple of kids fed and clothed, and look at his sockets.....

The Short Version: I was selling them them because they were not correct for the reason I bought them and inaccurately disclosed. I'm fine with treating my tools like tools.
The Long Version: Ultimately, I wound up keeping them, mainly because life exploded shortly after that video. I might sell them at some point. Anyway the issue I had was they were misrepresented and damaged, so they weren't right for the purpose I bought them for: a set to compare a known-good set to other similar sets on their same-brand ratchet. I say in the video that there's nothing wrong with them, but they were obviously well-used and so likely not as tight as the new set I got. I'm still working my way out of the life-chaos, so I haven't done the comparison video yet.
I'm definitely not a pro, and I do not consider my tools jewelry or collectable. I take care of them though. If I needed to use a socket as a drill guide, I have crap sets that would take the hit. If I had to use the Snap On, I would, but I definitely wouldn't sell them to someone else without (A) disclosing the condition accurately, and (B) fixing the big burrs on the inside of the socket. (I have a nice vintage BMW where the makes those sockets would make would not be cool with me).
Anyway, sorry for the long reply.
