when MLB's youtube account broadcasts "go ahead... get lost in our stunning video collection"
yeah... that's what I ended up doing with my sunday afternoon.
marte got hit cuz he leaned into it
Guess its a good thing the game had only 9 innings or else they would've ran out of players. lol
How would they have run out of players, the umipre wasn't ejecting anybody! The Pirates might have run out of coaches but that's about it.
For once I want to see an umpire tossed!
+Jake Kellogg Ozzie Guillen tossed an umpire when he was a manager. Didn't work though, but it was still funny as hell watching em try. lol
+Jake Kellogg Sounds good to me to, But would never happen. Maybe the Protest rule will be used in this as well In order to protest poor conduct by umpires
29 years ago Dodgers VS Giants 3rd base umpire was ejected
+Jackson Brandenburg yaaaeeessssssshhh woohhooo😱😹😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
me too
First, you never have to give a warning. Second, if you see both of Martes HBP, he moved his hands into the ball. I dont think he did it intentionally, but he made no effort to get out of the way.
I love how one Cardinal gets hit in the FIRST inning, but 3 Pirates get hit and no Cardinals get ejected
I’m a die hard Cardinals fan, but I remember watching this on TV thinking it was unfair that after 1 hit batter the Pirates pitcher was tossed and after 3, Lynn was still in the game.
That annotation at 0:12 had me saying, 'please MLB, like I wasn't going to already"
Perfect thumbnail! You just see some batter on the Cardinals looking at the pitcher!
Marte only got hit because he checked his swing on both at bats...he wouldn't have been been hit at all if he didn't check his swing
Yea his fault
Gotta give Sanchez props for taking that HBP without any complaint.
More people would watch baseball if they did this more often.
Who says MLB isn't a contact sport! This is a great rivalry between Pirates vs Cards
Tim Timmons....proof that talent is not a requirement to be a major league umpire.
The annotation in this video is so correct. ive been lost for about the last hour.
Boys fight with capital letters on the internet, Men fight with baseballs in real time
Unbelievable that the umpire didn't throw out any Cardinals.
The one at the end might have been warranted, but both of Lynn's were barely off the plate - Marte was crowding and didn't make much effort to get out of the way.. pause it at 1:37 and see where the ball is.
Craig was crowding the plate, too, on the one where he got ejected. Thats my problem with umpires is they aren't consistent at all. There is no way Sanchez was intentionally trying to hit Craig with a runner on first and no one out. He's a lefty who tried throwing a high and inside fastball to a righty so obviously if a righty is crowing the plate its going to come pretty close to hitting him. So immediately a standard is set. But the umpire didnt abide by his own standard when Marte was hit twinned Sanchez was hit on a ball that ran way inside. Its a horrible double standard and thats what I hate.
+HLGCeltic24 But look where the ball went on Craig. Up and in.
The first one on Marte it was inside, and wouldn't have hit him if he didn't start swinging the bat. The second one on him was over the plate. High, but over the plate.
Well whaddaya know, the Pirates are involved in THIS one too
you're welcome
sincerely, a St. Louis fan since birth
GO CARDS
2011 what a great year ,,,another WS for the cards
Anyone who was or had been a Cardinal fan during the LaRussa era knows how much Tony hated his players getting hit. But he hated his players retaliating, too. Anyone who wants to charge the mound on Lynn is going to get his ass handed to him. The powers that be in the NL have so much dislike for the Cards and they are nailed by Bob Watson whenever he can get away with it, which is often. The Cards are always getting the short end of things--bad calls, etc. If you ask me, Marte instigated almost all of this by stepping into inside pitches in the hopes of getting hit. He caused all of the problems that came later.
I would NOT want to be playing in this game
In 2011 the cards had Boggs,Garcia,Lynn,Motte,Salas, Molina, Descalso, Freese, Pujols, Schumaker, Chambers, and Jay, all of whom which made their MLB debut with the cardinals. In 1979 the last time the Pirates won the World Series they had Stennett, Stargell, Ott, Nicosia, Moreno, Kilson, Tekulve, Sanguillen, Parker, Robinson and Candelaria, whom made their MLB debut with the Pirates. So the Cardinals had 12 Players who made their debut with their respective team, the Pirates had 11, case closed.
I have to agree with you there. That's crazy.
How is hitting someone in the hand when they're swinging considered intentional?
doesn't matter. he tossed the pirates pitcher in the 1st inning for one HBP that wasn't intentional.
Tyler Stencell - after warnings were given, and that pitch was at the head.
The first one on Marte it was inside, and wouldn't have hit him if he didn't start swinging the bat. The second one on him was over the plate. High, but over the plate.
Tyler they didn’t attempt to get out of the way whatsoever
Lynn's were obviously not intentional, Marte moved his hands into the ball
Also look at Lynn's reactions after he hit marte
i agree with u .
Yeah, you can't swing at the ball and claim you were being thrown at.
Matter of fact, the first HBP on Marte should have been a strike as Marte introduced the bat into the hitting zone and got hit. By rule at that point, the hand is part of the bat as he was offering at the ball.
17 of the 25 Cardinals roster players were homegrown when we won the WS in 2011 -- the most of any club in MLB. Any other observations, Derp?
The umpire is like that weak parent that threatens to count to 5, their kid just blows them off, and the parent never actually does anything.
Funny video. I mean, not funny if I'm a Pirates fan, but basically MLB just posted a video that's embarrassing the home plate umpire for tossing out the Pirates manager and starting pitcher in the first inning for hitting one batter, and then not tossing any Cardinals for hitting three Pirates batters. I feel like these situations were handled better in the old days, where you get hit, you hit one of their guys, and then everything is square and then maybe a warning is given.
Are you a moron or an idiot ?
Ur talkin bout urself arent u well im going to say both
The HBP to Craig was to the head... Marte also swing at both of those pitches, he could have easily dodged it, but he chose not to. It's a common rule, if the person swings, its a strike, not a HBP, and if Lance Lynn is throwing intentionally, he would have went for the body, or head.
Damn
Craig was hit in the shoulder. You're right about Lynn. But when Sanchez gets hit by Boggs at the end, Boggs should have been tossed given the prior acts of both teams.
2 homers then 2 singles and the Pirates pitcher decides to hit a batter in the shoulder. Intentional?
Plain and simple pitchers who try to intentionally hit a batter are cowards. Its doesnt bring a toughness to the game. Trying to hit someone with a 90+ fastball is dangerous and can really hurt someone. Its bullshit, cowards!
Managers, GMs and owners, i'm sure, appreciate not having their players getting hit and potentially injured and put on the 60 day DL. When you're paying people millions of dollars to play, you expect them to be able to play.
We drafted Pujols, Molina, Jay, Motte, Freese, Descalso (didn't start that game), Craig (didn't start), schumaker (didn't start), and Salas.
Im loving being the envy of the league‚ and other Cards fans should too. GO CARDINALS!
Umps are so sensitive about their pet Cardinals.
Whatever. The umps aren't on anyone's side. Pirates pitcher was aiming for head but the cardinals pitcher hit them in the hands on accident. The count was 1-2 on the first batter then in the second batter 2-2 no pitcher would ever try to hit a batter when they are that ahead of the count plus the Pirates leaned into the pitch so it's all there fault. I proved you working fave it
face*
revinevan87 So is ESPN.
GOD DAMN I'D BE SCARED TO GO UP BAT DURING THIS GAME!
Do you like to play dodge ball? Well it is tied with baseball.
I have been a Cardinal fan since I was six years old.
don't mess with the red birds
I have to take the Pirates side on this one.
I'm a cards fan and they r one of the smartest teams not to go in to a fight
2:49 that's how you tell the opposing pitcher to grow some balls
Has anyone noticed that police are starting to run onto the field when players are fighting? In one video police were on the field trying to break-up a fight when umpires ordered them and security off the field. If this starts with police interfering in baseball then whats next cops on the field arresting players for fighting? beating and tasing players and mangers the front office needs to step-in and put a stop to this before there is a police takeover of baseball. One reporter said ,this needs to stop about police involving themselves with what goes own in the field we cant let this happen to AMERICAN pastime.my opinion
He was a super star that led you to two world series, it don't matter about the angels w/l the cardinals are having a good run but their not gonna keep it up with the players they have
On Cardinal hit, ejections. 3 Pirates hit no WARNING. BS
I will admit, I am a Cardinals fan, but if you look at where they were all hit, when the pirate pitcher hit Craig, it was in the head area. The only one of the cardinals HBP that can be considered slightly intentional is the last one.
Uhh schumi246 you realize your shoulder is not your head. Hitting a guy with a fastball in the ribs is textbook on purpose beaning location which is exactly what the last cardinals pitcher did and he wasn't ejected. That whole game was bullshit the Pirates should have protested it.
shoulder = very close to head
scyanks7 The top of the shoulder is inches from the head idiot....you have no argument. When a Pirate player gets hit in the hands and his hands are very near the strike the zone. Marte just didn't pull them back in time to avoid getting hit. Very different than throwing 95 at the shoulder/neck/head. Any fool can tell the difference except Pirate fans.
SyCo Pierce - Well, where to start with your moronic comment? First, no one was hit in the helmet (you fucking idiot). Second, if you knew anything about this game you would know that Sanchez gave up HR - HR - Single to the first 3 batters and then nailed Craig in the shoulder. Third, the conversation here is about the Pirates not understanding that their guys were hit just inches from the strike zone and that is why a Cardinal pitcher was not ejected. Go post more lame comments on your fan page for One Direction.
Both times Marte was hit the pitches were not way inside.
If you get hit on the backhand, it is definitely way inside. Getting hit by a pitch is the definition of inside.
The first one was not inside because he check swung pretty decent but the second one was too far
Molina barely stretched out his glove both times. Marte's stance is so close to the plate its like he wants to be hit.
Gracias.
You can sometimes tell when a pitcher throws at a batter on purpose just by their follow through. You will see them change their mechanics to make sure that that ball is thrown specifically at the batter.
I would rather just not have umpires and instead have a free for all.
Ikr
Patrick you'd probably also like to have no cops in our country as well?
Ur the dumbest person ever
why would you hit a guy on purpose in the bottom of the first after giving up two runs? it just doesn't make sense for that to be intentional.
It’s was high and umps didn’t want anything else to start a warning should have been given but he should not have been tossed
Mix of baseball and shooting gallery.
I was at that game where sanchez got thrown out right away. LOL
Total favoritism towards the cards. Pirates got screwed here.
Yup. Your right. He obviously has money bet on the side for the St. Louis.
The ejections was unfair but the second hit batter he did start swinging so he wouldn't have been hit probably
nicholas williamson Umpires don't have the luxury to ponder and analyze. Usually they need to make split second decisions before the benches clear and all hell breaks lose. For what it's worth, there should have been more ejections like that attempted bunt and the 3rd hit pirate.
actually no favoritism at all. The players the cards hit were on the hand and in the ribs. The pirates were throwing at heads. That shit isnt ok.
Nick Tuttle Dude, Sanchez obviously hit in the hand right? Open your eyes, its obvious favouritism.
Umps didnt eject a single cardinal....when there was 3HBP...Pirates hit 2... and 3 ejections...
Cardinals get special treatment always by umpires. Someone is getting paid behind closed doors.
Why would Lance Lynn intentionally hit a batter on a 2-2 count? And then hit him again on a 1-2 count? Mitchell Boggs would not hit a batter with a runner on first, and did you see his reaction after he hit him? He was clearly mad about it. I think the only intentional one was the pitch up and in when he was bunting.
Venthos welcome to st louis
Because 2 of them were on the hands with a 2 strike count
The first one on Marte it was inside, and wouldn't have hit him if he didn't start swinging the bat. The second one on him was over the plate. High, but over the plate.
The batter is very close to being directly over the plate and contributed to the first HBP.
I've seen sanchez pitch for the giants. The guys jus a wild pitcher period.
Only good pitch Boggs threw all year
wow, this is ridiculous. how do you throw a pitcher in the 1st and then let their guys get hit over and over again? I'm not even a Pirates fan or Cardinals fan and I think this is shameful
bakon321 the only pirate ht by a pitch that was anywhere near intentional was the last one.
MLB should do a video of umps who are in love with the home team...lol
The pitcher that threw at the Cardinal batter's head was a reliever. He had been in for about 5 innings. Relief pitchers aren't meant to go that long. So his arm was tired, causing him to make terrible pitch placement. Remember that the umpire threw the Pirates' starter out 17 pitches in.
The 3rd on was on purpose. Is it a coincidence that Marte was hit two times in a row.
r u kidding me. The pitcher ment to hit him both times
sniperfish22 he didn't. All those pitches would be okay is marte was a few inches back. Plus, he didn't move. Also, Hughes needed to be ejected because why the hell are you trying to kill Lynn. Both of those HBP were an accident
sniperfish22 as a cardinal fan i know lance lynn is not the best pitcher.... he did not meant to hit him. and mart swung at the pitch the first time so its not even a hit...
Lance lynn sucks and he did it on purpose Cardinals are stuck up Sanchez accidentally threw it and hit him
sniperfish22
Marte was swinging at the first one and it hit his hand mid swing genius.
Pirates: "whahahahahaaaaa you hit our batter whahahahahaaaaa" fucking cry about it, Shittsburgh
agreed 100%
I mean I'm no fan of Pittsburgh, in fact I hate them, but give them some slack dude. I'm sure if your favorite player was hit or got injured in some way you wouldn't be so happy about it.
You're a fucking moron.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt
That's every team, dude. If you think it's so easy, then why don't you volunteer to get hit with a 93 mph fastball yourself, you blowhard.
i was there, laughing at how terrible the pirates were
And, as per usual, the Cardinals aren't treated the same as everyone else and go unpunished.
These umps are bullshit ... Hughes threw at the dudes face while he was squaring to bunt , so unacceptable, such a defenseless position compared to normal batting stance.
LOL really dude. they hit marte twice, and didn't even get thrown out. and too they hit him in the hand, where it could've broken or fractured something. but oh no when cry baby Lance Lynn gets brushed off the plate people make a big deal
+Cam Ackermann Yeah I agree that lynn should have been tossed after hitting marte the second time.. but still you dont throw up and in when a guy is squared up to bunt ... hit him in the ass or smth
+Cam Ackermann They don't eject people based on how painful or likely a bone is to break where they got hit. The only intentional pitch of the ones shone here was clearly the one that went at LL's head when he was squared to bunt. Marte wouldn't have even been hit the first time if he didn't check swing and move his own hands into the ball. Every other pitch seemed pretty clearly to just get away from the pitcher.
I mean ur kinda supposed do that when someone squares but yeah classless pirates go cardinals woo
Nuclear Breach uh oh cardinals fan detected... how does 3rd place feel?
All the hate comments about the cardinals. I'm a cards fan and I understand.. They HATE US Cause they AINT US
Amen brotha. Best record in the MLB so far!
Master Sword 2021 I know man. :>
+Michael Venezia No. We hate you because you say shit like, "They hate us cause they ain't us."
+Zach Proctor and we hate you because you treat us like shit
+Zach Proctor yep
Amen to that!!!!
the video also doesn't show Kozma spiking Neil Walker later in the game, which required several stitches. TImmons failed to do anything about that, either.
I hate all MLB teams equally
Then why do you watch
That was bull the CARDINALS Lynn should've been ejected, this why I can't stand the CARDINALS or RED SOX, it seems like the MLB wants to give these two all the benefits of a doubt just like President Obama gets the benefit of the doubt wayyy toooo muchhh
No need to bring politics into this
Obama is from Illinois, he's a Cubs fan. I don't think that he has anything to do with this.
What does obama have to do with baseball and idiot umpires? I do get the point all politicians are idiots but that has nothing to do with baseball.
Americans just love to blame the president for everything. They tend to believe that he should be some kind of god who makes no mistakes and is absolutely perfect. They also believe that he is the only one running the country and no one else is part of the government
I dont blame the president I blame the flawed goverment itself. Republicans and democrats alike are whats wrong with everything in the government.
absolutely, good call........flagrant!!!
How the beauty of this game can be spoiled by one man's action.. one ball to the face at 90 mph and the guy losses his vision cause of my wrong doing.. couldn't live with it.
That jacked up
That umpnlodt control of that game on the first ejection. The only way to save it would be to just keep hearing pitchers til they cut the bullshit.
I was at this game, but I was in the concession area at the time. I said, "Don't eject him. We want him to keep pitching!"
This would have been an awesome game to watch.
Frankly, if the pitcher is thrown out for throwing at a batter, then the manager should go automatically, as if warnings had been issued.
The difference is 2 pitches in on Starling Marte's hands, and 2 pitches at Allen Craig's head. Marte's second was a little high but still not at his head
Dwayne Thompson Jr you are a genesis love cards
In the first fucking inning? No previous incidents? Usually you're lucky to get a warning in a situation like that
Fucking love the Cardinals. I love Boston too. I'm from Massachusetts, but I lived in St.Louis for most 10 years now so idk. Whoever wins i will still be very proud and happy!
1:52 Hey looks it's Banny
Kid, you're like 10 years old you wouldn't know who the most dedicated sports fans are.
Look at the different nature of the pitches. Marte's hands got hit twice, the first was just inside the batter's box, the second made contact OUTSIDE of the box. Throwing up and in will (and should) get you tossed every time...and take note of the Pirates' response after Marte's HBPs, they headhunt twice more. Classy club.
Marte got hit on two checked swings. The other batter got his jersey clipped. Craig almost got hit in the head twice, and Lynn almost got hit in the head. Now, you tell me what was going on there.
the announcer trying to paraphrase the GM's loving support for his pitcher, when he's just out there dropping F bombs
good for you!!!!!!
EXACTLY
Mitchell Boggs oh my goodness. 😂😂 that was rough
THE PIRATES ARE ALWAYS INVOLVED IN THESE LMAO
Actually your correct the true middle would be 15 of 30 but "middle of the pack" would be considered the teams with the 11 to 19 highest payrolls.
Oh, you mean because those are two teams with fans who actually know what they are talking about and pay attention to their teams instead of just having a blind bias towards their own?
I'm surprised the benches didn't clear. Shocked, really
How many people got hit total??
I respect what the Pirates did.
I believe the umpire is a Cardinals fan
Great video
once again..."you're starting" dude ever heard the phrase you can't fix stupid? applies to you very well
really entertaining game
With the Pirates and Cardinals in a dead lock atop the NL Central. I think this is going to end up being a nasty rivalry.
This looks more like a hitting contest then a baseball game
This game really ticked me off!!!
Was there any history between these teams before this game?
i cant believe the pirates kept their cool
