  • "Naturals," claim, that our pores get clogged from using hair grease and stops hair growth. I challenge, anybody, who says that it does, cause, it's not true! I have proof in this video, to show how my hair still grows from using Blue Magic Scalp and Conditioning Oil.

I've never understood that rule. If you ask a dermatologist what to use for dry skin they say petroleum jelly aka Vaseline, Aquaphor. If it doesn't clog pores on your body, why would it clog pores on your head? If it's good for sealing in moisture on your body, why is it different for your hair? Why do people use body wash with sulfates and not on their scalp? It's so weird. Thank you for your honesty. We all need to do what works for our hair and body.

Oh, you've made some valid points, because, alot of our body products have those same ingrendients in our hair products. Mineral oil is one of them. Love your comment:)

Kierrin Phillips for some people it DOES clog pore on their body. Vaseline and co gives me blackheads specially on my chest and face. My skin use to be uneven using these.. it's not a rule..
Lot of people does not wash their body with sulfate. My boyfriend and I use african black soap and I will never go back to sulfate.

these naturals these days have us putting mayonnaise, olive oil, eggs, Dijon mustard and two slices of turkey on our damn head...got me making a sandwich over here. I have watched many videos over the weeks and I have have 3c hair and I'm so freaking tired of these natural with all these damn Shea moisture and carols daughter and Deva curl and Paul Mitchell basically $59.99 plus shipping and handling type products. it made me think why am about to spend my rent money on all these products to grow my hair when my mom had my hair at my ass crack just using head and shoulders shampoo and blue magic hair grease and olive oil sheen spray? there was no finger detangling pineapple lifestyle for us it was cry while to momma popped you with the comb braided your hair and told you to keep ya hands out, so I'm going back to that minus the comb popping and crying lol im grown now so my head is built tough.
thank you this is the type of natural videos we need to be seeing not all these foofoo naturals that basically just boost money for these expensive products out here.

Yes! I was talking about that with a friend yesterday. Too many products and expensive with half the fridge thrown in. I posted on this a few months back because I had went back to using grease and my hair stopped being so dry, and my edges has started to fill in. Stupid me went back to out and my hair was like "you got jokes". My edges stopped filling in AGAIN. So I went back to grease last month and am using BB pine tar and my scalp, hair and definitely my edges LOVE it. They've filled in so nice that I can't stop looking in the mirror to be sure I'm seeing what I'm seeing. All of those oils did not do anything to help get my edges back and if anything it seemed like they were thinning out more. I also don't have so many ssk and issues with tangling. I can put my hair in a style and leave it be for at least a week because I don't have to constantly take it down trying to moisturize it every day and it stays shiny. I love Indian Hemp because as I said on my previous post, it smells like 🍬. I also like that the indian hemo makes my hair look like I pressed it out for some reason. I don't care about a curl popping so I don't mind the loosening of my texture when I use it.

I think the larger issue is that the "natural hair rules" are designed to sell hair products. Almost every natural hair youtuber has a closet full of products. One month it's "my hair loves" this product and the next video "my hair loves" something else. I was so close to buying a hair butter and curling cream product when I just had to catch myself.

I am a Blue Magic Queen Junkie all the way lol. I went back old school and my hair started growing like crazy. I spent so much money on natural hair oils blah blahblaa and my hair grew, but then set back after setback, drying and thin smhhh I got sick and tired of this and just went old school. I've learned to use Blue Magic in conjunction with my conditioners and shea butter mixes. My hair is thriving. I wash once a week, apply my leave-in conditioner and then coat it with a light base of hair grease. My ends are healthy and my hair is the longest is has ever been and super thick. I am never going back to all of that expensive stuff. Blue Magic works for me.

It's not grease that clogs your pores, it's continually greasing and never washing your hair. You can use your fingernail and push sludge across some peoples scalp due to the build up. A dirty scalp with oily residue sitting on top WILL DEFINITELY CLOG pores. Your hair won't quit growing, but you can develop pustules on the scalp or heavy flaking due to buildup which suffocates the scalp. All skin needs to breathe. The hair will still grow, but if it has a bad environment - aka dirty scalp - the hair will not flourish.

    • @bjmorgan3092

ydsmithaz I have been natural for 1.5 years and to date I have not gone more than 7 days without washing my hair. I don't cowash. I wash. Grease causes pimples on my scalp in a couple of days just like Vaseline will if I rub it on my face. My mama did it when I was young and I had no issues but things change with age. Grease has gotten a bad rap but all is not as good either. We have to listen to our hair and scalp and do what works. My hair loves grease. My scalp does not. Not sure why but it doesn't.

The problem with hair grease is not that it clogs your pores. The petroleum that's in some hair grease lays on the shaft of the hair and prevents moisture uptake if we don't clarify the hair regularly. People with low porosity hair have issues with getting moisture into the cortex of the hair, so the last thing they need is something sitting on the scalp preventing moisture from getting in, but everything ain't for everybody. Different hair will do different things with different products. With all the hype about cowashing and sulfate/silicone /paraben free cleansing methods (curlygirl, max hydration, water only etc.) many people have stepped away from the kind of wash you need to do when you use grease. My mom used grease in my hair all the time as a kid and my hair was very long and healthy. But she also washed my hair pretty regularly with a surfactant based shampoo and it clarified the strands sufficiently to allow moisture back into the hair on wash day. I think it's really not the grease that's bad, but rather the lack of hair care understanding that works in tandem with any products. That's how we wind up doing damaging things with useful products. Hair grease can have a negative effect, but only if you don't use it correctly.

As soon as I stopped using Blue Magic, my hair started doing a madness. When I started listening to people telling me to use all these oils and 'natural products' I started getting dandruff like crazy. I had to learn to just do what is right for me and not what other people say.

All these new age naturals who claim that hair grease is bad for the hair don't know what they're talking about. I have been using grease on my hair and scalp since from back in the day and never had a problem. As a matter of fact, when I first became natural, I stopped using grease on my hair because I was listening to all the natural hair gurus who were claiming how bad hair grease was because of all the "harmful" ingredients and how "damaging" it is for natural hair. So I stopped using it...and my hair suffered. Long story short, I came to the realization that MY extremely dry, 4c natural hair have always thrived better and grew faster when I use grease. DAX 100% Pure Lanolin is my ish! And thanks to you Nezi, I recently started using the Blue Magic Organics Castor Oil and I love it. Bottom line is, the individual have to stick to what works for the individual. Ain't nothing wrong with some hair grease if it works!

The best twist out I ever had in my life was with grease. I washed my hair, moisturized with Cantu coconut curling cream and sealed with Africa's best super sure gro. The only things is that I had to wait 2 days for it to dry but that might be because it was a completely wet twist out and I added a lot of the creme. But when I took it down....juiciest, plumpest, shiniest, softest twist out ever.

Historically "hair grease" has been used to keep our scalps nice and moisturized which could make our grow. My mother use to grease mine and my sisters' hair all the time, every other day after she pressed and curled it. Hair grew long and was healthy. I prefer "hair grease" over hair oil any day because hair oil seems to make my hair and scalp too greasy, even if I use a small amount of the hair oil. Your hair is gorgeous. I'm going to be sticking with the old school way of moisturizing my scalp with "hair grease"! Thanks for this video.

I went and got my hair African braided because going back this what I would do to my hair when it was growing the longest and thickest. I saw that the lady that braided my hair was using blue magic super sure gro, and I looked at the cover saw how CHEAP it was !!! As soon as I got out of there I went to the bss and got some blue magic castor oil as well as the one she was using in my hair . When I was a child that was all my grandma used in my hair and SCALP, even sometimes just castor oil and Vaseline . Forget the mystical berry juices and oils , I’m going back to the basics with good old school water and hair grease. My hair was thriving with Blue magic , water , V05 shampoo ( sulfates baby :) and olive oil cholesterol deep conditioner

My hair and scalp actually doesn't like grease. I remember my mommy using TCB primarily. It wasn't until college that I found my head actually prefers creamy moisturizers and to be washed frequently. Grease weighs my hair down and leaves it.....greasy, lol. And makes my scalp itch. I would use optimum care, which still had some petrolatum and mineral oil, and I can't say my hair was entirely crazy about them either. I used to wash my relaxed hair all the time and leave conditioner in it to keep it soft. This is why I look at any "rules" with a strong side eye. You have to learn your own hair and do what works for you.

I think some people do not wash their hair often enough so dirt in combination with the grease ckigs their pores...either that or they put wayyyy too much on. The only people who I know who's hair doesn't grow are the people who don't wash their hair often enough so their scalps collects dirt and that's what clogs their pores and those who do not properly moisturize their hair.

I've been natural almost 5 years and I've been using the blue magic castor oil for a week as sealer and on my scalp with my oils. My hair is so freaking hydrated the best sealer ever. Ive used hair grease ever since i was little. I stopped using it when i was 19 because of people saying it clogged pores. Well when i stopped using it, my hair stopped growing. Started being really flaky and dry and irritated.. and it looked dull. I was using like regular oils, That made it worse than ever.. My hair started snapping where my line of demarcation was and it looked like someone just cut an upside down horshoe in the back of my hair where it broke off because it was so dry. I went back to using grease and my hair is growing back pretty quick. Very very quick. Using it is better than not using it at all and alternating between oils that just sits on my hair and scalp.

I stopped greasing my scalp a year ago when I went natural and started applying just a dime/quarter size of oil all over using the LOC method. I loved this video... I’ve been natural for 1 year and couple months now and since the beginning of my hair journey, I’ve been watching and listening to those natural hair nazis saying that we should use sulfate free shampoo, always deep condition, and use all these expensive products (I’m 19 and I don’t have a job lol) that honestly don’t even work for my hair. My hair is growing but I’ve suffered with dry scalp and itchiness and my hair was always so dry. So I decided to buy some Doo Gro oil and my boyfriend’s mom gave me a new jar of Blue Magic grease and my hair is moisturized and so soft. I don’t know why I haven’t been doing this from the start. Those other channels had me putting mayonnaise, egg, onion, garlic and all other kinds of shit in my hair but no more. When I was smaller, my mom would wash my hair with a sulfate shampoo and use DAX grease, and my hair was down to my mid back. I’m gonna buy a sulfate shampoo and continue using this regimen because it works for my hair. Thank you so much ❤️

I just started using grease again. I've been using just castor oil on my scalp but suddenly it wasn't cutting it. I looked at my scalp and it was WHITE and lord was it itchy. Now I'm back on Sulphur 8 and it was the best decision I could have made. I should have listened to my mom months ago.

its naturals that mix 15 different oils together, lol. when I first became I did it too which cost me a lot of money. now I make my own hair grease with bees wax to hold everything together. We have to watch our spending, these natural hair care products are just to expensive

Yep. I just went back to grease. Ive tried all kinds of this "new" natural crap and I realized, I NEVER had any issues as a child/teenager with my hair. No dryness, breakage, nothing. I said you know what im going back to what i know. I think all this new age natural stuff is to make money. All these products Ive used and my hair always dry!! I struggle more now then back in the day with my "clogged pores" lol. I fell for it but i jumped off the wagon. Thanks for sharing. Your hair is beautiful.

I personally don't use grease just because of a preference for a more natural and plant based lifestyle not just hair and skin but diet and alternative medicine

I love you so much! Sorry to be so forward but...Im crying right now. I needed this channel. I think the natural hair movement really screwed my hair up over the years including resulting in hair loss. Smh...I just started using sulfates again and hair grease :) My scalp is REALLY DRY. REALLY and has lacked so much hydration. Now...I grease my scalp.

Just started back using grease because I had issues with an itchy scalp and oils weren’t working. I remember as a child I had itchy scalp and my dad bought sulfur 8 for me and it helped so much. I was like everyone else listening to people say hair grease is bad but my hair also grew just fine using grease. Now that I’m using hair grease again I literally can go days without greasing my scalp and it not feel itchy so from now on I’m doing what works for my hair.

My skin has a tendency to get very dry. Hence, my scalp is an extension of the rest of my body that needs to be greased or lotioned.
I've been greasing my scalp since being natural and it loves it. 😀

    OK Sis! You GOT me!!
I was just scrolling looking for what is the best shampoo to remove hair grease because I want to try going back to using grease.
When you got to the part about your hairdresser, I said, "That's it!" This is real talk
Your hair is lovely, and you are real without using bad language
I am subscribing right now because I only like REAL talk
I don't have long, flowing silky hair, but I DID have long, kinky hair when my mom used hair grease on my hair
    Back to the basics!
Thanks Sis! God keep blessing you. Keep on keeping us informed!

Hi, miss kay! Yeah, you're right about those oils. They didn't do much for my scalp, either. That's why I started speaking up, about, hair grease. The new schoold rule, (don't use hair grease) wasn't working for me.

Great video! I so agree with you. When I went the the first time I too was afraid to use hair grease because of all the negative things the natural community would say. I made the decision to stick to my hair great and look at me now. My hair is healthy and growing beautifully. Love the vid. tfs

I have thick coarse hair so yes i use hair grease. I tried other more expensive products they did nothing for me. I use mane and tail shampoo and conditioner, blue magic hair grease, and carefree curl and my hair is just fine. I spend around 27 dollars with tax cheaper then 27 dollars for one product.
