    I don’t think they lied. They gave us options.
    We never considered natural oils before. Grease works for some and not others. Coconut oil is not the messiah for everyone.
    If grease works use grease. If natural oils give us long lustrous hair then use that.
    There are many roads to Rome. I hope we all get there. I mean I’m tryna get to Delta state but that’s a story for another day. 😏.

    • @JoyInTheLight
      @JoyInTheLight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      👏🏾👏🏾 Yes! We're all different. I only occasionally used grease before going natural over 20 years ago. Back then I relaxed my hair and it was super-thick & long. When I first went natural I found that grease & most oils just sit on my hair & jack up my curl pattern! Yes, my scalp needed moisture and maybe oil, but my hair does not like it at all. If it's mixed into a product it's a little better but my hair will protest every time. *Sigh* my search continues for a grease or oil that will stay on my scalp on not get on my hair OR that my hair likes.

      @@kailabrown1446, @Michelle Gil : Thanks for your answers. My problem is on "day 2": basically I wash once a week, then spray water (my hair dries really fast) and apply shea butter. Then on day 2, I re-hydrate and reapply shea butter. But, although my hair grows fast, I have not been retaining any length. So I tried petrolatum grease, but on day 2 I can't spray water on any more (it's messy sticky), and if I don't spray water my hair is not easy to style (into a bun). When I first went natural 18 years ago, before there was a movement or videos, I used what my dad told me to use- grease and water. He would hate it when my mom permed my hair and would be like, "I don't know why you're doing all that! All she needs is grease and water". And babyyyyy when I used grease on my natural my hair, it was so lush! I never had knots, and barely any dandruff. Then the natural hair movement happened, all the girls were talking about how bad grease was, so I listened and tried something new, you know, the butters and oil combos, etc. Then multiple combinations of cowashes and deep conditioners. My hair started to knot up so bad and I had dandruff after like day 2 of wash day (and yes I oil my scalp, what you think this is).
    Anyway, long story short, I found this old jar of grease in my cabinet a few months ago and was like, what the hell. Babayyyy, when I tell you!! When I slicked that grease onto my scalp, my scalp literally SCREAMED, "HALLELUJAHHHHH!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My scalp caught the holy ghost and got delivert, ya'll. It felt so much healthier, I don't have to apply it as often and my hair stays juicy. Plus I have like 90% less knots. Now I do use this natural ingredient grease, but I'm happy I went back!

      Davinci sullivan you are completely right. I know plenty girls with her hair types that don’t have her issues.
      The scalp produces it’s own sebum and if ppl just leave their scalp alone it’ll be fine, unless they have a medical condition determined by a MD or NP. This is basic biology lol. Grease is over drying ppl just don’t stop long enough to notice the difference and aren’t use to their scalps working the way it’s suppose to. Any oil will seal in moisture, a good one being, Argan or pure jojoba oil. She didn’t post any scientific resources to these claims either. Or even just basic chem to connect the dots.
      Haven’t used grease in years and my hair is producing plenty of oil. I invest in good deep conditioners as well. I don’t use a lot of coconut oil because that’s straight protein and you can give your hair a protein overload, just like you can give your hair a moisture overload.
      If someone does use grease you only need it on your ends and there are PLENTY of oil based products that aren’t expensive that are non-comedogenic and blue magic isn’t one of them, the first ingredient is mineral oil. Plus companies can slap anything on a bottle as say it doesn’t clog pores.
      She also contradicts herself when she says dermatologist (as if all) recommends petroleum for extremely dry skin but they also say avoid clogging your pores, every skin type is different so everyone isn’t getting prescribed the same medication from the MD. Or just make your own and put a preservative in it, it’s not that hard.

      @@BlackHipsterGirl that's true but on it's own oil is just too light for my hair, I have to apply too many time and that's when I start getting that drying effect because when the oil dries out the moisture dries out. I just dont like my hair being gunky with product so reapplying is no good for me, and washing and conditioning too often is really bad for me. The grease just is heavy enough to let me stretch from week to week almost without having to re wet and moisturize my hair. I literally have to stick my head under the sink and then reapply all my products every few days or it starts breaking off

      I'm for anything that works for your hair. Don't use grease because of the heaviness and it has the tendency to get all over every thing. I use coconut oil and Shea Moisture. But think the best way for your hair to grow is to just leave it alone. I usually keep my hair twisted and pinned up. My hair grows about an inch per month, but the secret is taking care of it so it doesn't break off.

My mom used to do just water and Blue Magic or water and Vaseline and brush my hair and put it in two ponytails. I had long hair when I was a kid and my mom for whatever reason took me to a salon and they gave me a perm and cut all my hair off! I just went back to my beautician about a month ago now and had her trim my ends because I had health issues. I thought my hair was jacked up. Nope she blew it out and it was long! She cracked open the Blue Magic grease and the smell took me back! My natural hair is so long and it didn't lose moisture at all. I had it straight for over 2 weeks. It wasn't greasy at all. That's what sparked me to come back. Also my hair grew 1/2 an inch in 2 weeks. I've never seen it grow so fast. So I'm back in the grease game. 😁

    Everything old is new again. Growing up in 60s and 70s grease is what we used. As an older woman now I recently went back to grease after years of wearing locs and now being menopausal. Menopause not only thins your hair it makes it very dry. Grease is the perfect remedy for keeping hair moisturized.

    • @anikaallen3741

      Menopause wrecks your hair. I had very thick and my hair would grow long and healthy. I wore locks for 15 years I started menopause and I started loosing locks and was thinning. I cut my locks almost a year ago it's now trying to turn around and get healthy again. My preference is the Indian hemp grease.

    I reintroduced grease in September/October 2019. I was living in Arizona and nothing, I mean nothing, would keep my hair and scalp moisturized. I use African Pride and I don't regret it!

      Hi! I hope you see this comment. I live in Az and my hair is so dry esp when it's 1000 degrees out. Does grease really help with moisture in tht type of weather? And does it feel like your hair is melting? Lol.

    • @ladym2398
      @ladym2398 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jayvaelev5881 It helps because your scalp needs nutrients. Not too much and not a heavy petroleum. That's why I use African Pride. Don't overuse so your scalp can breathe but it works for me even here in Atlanta. Also I used grapeseed oil for surface hair moisturizing. Olive oil for some reason didn't work.
