If you click "SHOW MORE" in the description above your be able to see Links to the Tools 🔧🔨🔧 I use. Also Clickable Chapters📋 📙 throughout the video and other Links 🎬 that may be of interest. I've had a few viewers request where they can buy the tools they see in some of my videos but it's not very clear that the "SHOW MORE" tab has a lot of information in that may be of interest. Admittedly the amazon links are associated with me and I would earn a small commission which helps towards keeping the channel funded.

Thanks Mark, another informative and well explained tutorial. I totally agree with reuse of bolts and scale of economy. If the build is successful, given where you started with this Mini, then you can take a view later. Us retired sorts have to watch the pennies as it’s disastrous if you have to pull it all apart again.

Hi Patrick. For me the money is more important than my time. I can always change something later on off camera but like you say money is getting tighter and tighter and with no disposable income to play with I have to prioritise money. I was hoping TH-cam would be covering the cost of tools and parts as I made more and more videos but sadly it doesn't.

I am liking the makeshift feeler gauge, that a great Idea. The way these engines are with these stretch bolts is getting silly, I now have a bag full of camshaft , crankshaft and cylinder head bolts. I have an old classic car that calls for a new timing belt every three years, no matter the mileage. This is an engine out job to service the belt. My Mrs has a Peugeot 407 HDi and that belt service is 9 years or 60000 miles, where is the logic?. Great video as always, I am off now to find some lead.

Hi Neil, when I saw that I might have to bend a tool that was a real no no to me. I value my tools more than the cars so no car was getting me to damage a tool. I'm a bit strange like that. Most people buy the tools as they love their cars, not the other way around. I probably should have replaced the belt and crank bolt and just hope I don't regret it. I put little clips on Instagram and that normally causes a massive storm of hate when I do things like that. I did like my lead idea. I think it was from fish tank plants as the leads is wrapped around the roots to stop them floating.

@@CoatsandGaiters Hello again Mark. I know what you mean about valuing tools. I have misplaced some tools whist doing a job and I won't rest until I find It.
I have a good collection of tools myself and have some spanners that are of dubious quality, I don't mind adapting them to get the job done. I don't understand people giving grief on social media, after all your doing people a favor by making the video in the first place.

@@neilhampson2843 I guess like you say adapting cheap tools isn't so bad, come to think of it I have adjusted a socket or two for a suspension mount but bending a 1mm feeler gauge isn't going to help it slide back into it's holder again lol. I get loads on Instagram. When a reel gets into the millions of views you get comment after comment on how your doing it wrong lol. Then your get the odd true mechanic that stands up for you and says your doing it right. The thing with Instagram is they see it out of context from the video as you only get 60 seconds.

Great video as usual, do you think you may have turn the timing belt tensioner in the wrong direction @14.05, the tensioner was positioned in a clockwise direction in the earlier part of the video, just a thought 👍

Thank you for the compliment. I probably should have shown it better but I was recording the mirror image. The photograph was a direct view of the tensioner but was inverted in the mirror on the video. Well I hope it was lol or I'm in very big trouble.

@@CoatsandGaiters ah yes thanks. So detailed!
So to time the engine you just have to align the hole on the crank pulley to the timing hole and it will always have the pistons in the middle?, then you just need to place the cam carrier with chain set in the centre and when you match the cam timing hole and diesel pump timing hole it's all timed?

@@andys2856 as long as it’s all locked correctly all should be ok. Unusual the fuel pump is timed in but it’s important apparently. Just turn it all over by hand from the crank once finished to ensure nothing hits anything.

@@CoatsandGaiters thanks. Another thing, it's seem the biggest issue as you explained in your last video of this series is that the tappets do not get enough oil due to the starter motor not being able to spin fast enough to pressurize the tappets from from dry. Are there any tips or tricks to prevent this when reassembling the top part of the oil. Just apply engine oil to the tappets before you bolt down the cam carrier?

@@andys2856 if you remove the tappets keep them submerged in clean engine oil so they are full of oil. You’d need to number them so they go back exactly where they came from though. A 16 compartment tray would be ideal if it’s deep enough.

Do you know why you should turn the camshaft bolt approx 40 revolutions clockwise according to Haynes when refitting?
Using a spanner on the camshaft sprocket bolt, rotate the camshafts approximately 40 complete revolutions clockwise. Check the black-coloured links on the chain still align with

    • @CoatsandGaiters

40 times is probably the number of revolutions to get the marking links to re align again so you can double check the timing is correct.

How difficult/easy should it be to put timing belt on when tensioner pulley is at it's slackest, I just can't quite get the belt on, it's very close like a few mm off but even with tensioner at slackest I can't get it, any tips?

Your not a tooth out on the other side. It should be an easy fit. The slack should be near the tensioner.
