Ah bless - my mum and I used to love watching this together whenever it was on. It was our favourite. She's gone now and I can't see it without smiling and missing her. She loved Stewart Granger, and as grown women, I now 'get it' lol!

I loved this movie, but, historically speaking, they made Thomas Seymore seem way more heroic than he really was.

Im getting sick of the copyright folks denying us access to fine films as this..it doesn't make any sense.

Many actresses played Elizabeth Tudor in movies: Sarah Bernhardt, Flora Robson, Bette Davis, Jean Simmons, Glenda Jackson, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett and Vanessa Redgrave.

I guess the copyright pimps have got to this movie finally. No matter, I've seen it many times, paid to do so a few times, and I'll see it again if the tech rebels are as persistent as I believe. It's an historical botch but such a fine film to watch because Jean Simmons is so lovely and beautifully defiant as we would wish Elizabeth I to be. RIP Ms. Simmons, I've loved you since I was eight years old.

I too have loved Jean Simmons and her husband Stewart Granger since I was 8 yrs old! 70 yrs ago now! This film broke my heart at 14. It was SO romantic! Stewart Granger - that voice! And it hadn't changed at all when I met him when he was 80 and in a play, and still as handsome as ever. I also met the beautiful Deborah Kerr in the 1970s in a play in London. Sadly, I never met the so beautiful Jean Simmons. This has been my favourite film forever! I love history, and rant at film makers who change it. But not at this one. I wish the changes were true!

Heroic Thomas Seymour? He molested the princess when she was only thirteen, while married to her stepmother! He was no hero movie-he was a court snake just like Thomas Howard was. The movie looks interesting but like a lot of other adaptations (I'm looking at you White Princess), it seems very bias in its' portrayals of certain characters.

It's an adaption of a novel which was not necessarily meant to be super accurate.

Actually Elizabeth was not impulsive at all.
Her mother in another hand was, in her last days.

Like Norma Desmond said "They had faces then" and talent. Granger was soooo handsome
By the way great film. Costumes were STUNNING !

Idk where you learn your history from but she is recorded to be quite impulsive and known for her tantrums in court similar to that of her father's.

I can't stand the amount of propaganda in this movie
