- Video #229 - a Second "Jan" Chair Car journey from Coimbatore Junction to Mayiladuthurai Junction in the 12084 Coimbatore - Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express. This is the ONLY day time train from Western Tamilnadu to the Delta region of Tamilnadu - and quite a popular train as well! This train is a foodie's paradise - the onboard catering staff come continuously with one item after the other! They'll keep you engaged!
The Jan Shatabdi brand was born in 2002 - as a "lighter" version of the premium Shatabdi Express. These trains had non-AC coaches in addition to AC Chair Car Coaches (Shatabdi Expresses had only AC seating accommodation) - in the initial days, these train fare also included meals (just like the Shatabdi) - but this made the train pricier, and the railways made the meals an optional add-on, and later completely removed the catering provision. These trains had a different version of the non-AC Chair Car, and was hence given the "Jan" title. These coaches had wider, larger glass windows (a major shift from the porthole sized windows with drop down shutters). The seats were different - these coaches had a 3x3 seating pattern with individual seats and hand rests! The older Chair Car coaches had bench seats in the same 3x3 pattern. Jan Shatabdis were a run-away hit on many routes - some routes needed maturation over the period of time.
Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi in January 2003, as the Thanjavur-Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi. The service was a major flop initially, and ended up being "reversed" - to operate as Coimbatore-Thanjavur Jan Shatabdi (departing in the morning from Coimbatore). The train was then extended to Kumbakonam, and later at Mayiladuthurai as Gauge Conversion of the Mainline was completed. The train operates with a load of 22 ICF coaches - 3 AC Chair Car coaches and the rest Non-AC Chair Car coaches.

Dedicated cleaning staff doing a thorough job !! Let us give credit to the railways when we see such acts of commitment. Thanks for showing such little snippets.
Lovely visuals from TN ..thank you sir..awesome compilation..
Ponni is another name for the Cauvery river and hence the name of the rice. Yes, Kumbakonam is a real gem, lots of temples in the town and the Navagraha temples around it. Mathematician Ramanujam is from Kumbakonam and his house is near the Sarangapani temple and worth a visit. Great food indeed. Chola Empire flourished in Thanjavur/Kumbakonam/Trichy Area.
you missed coimbatore airport runway which comes after Peelamedu. Once upon a time when i was travelling in this train to Coimbatore, I saw a plane taking off just above me when I was standing near the door. It was so amazing
Thank you for the wonderful video through the heart of Tamil Nadu. If you happen to travel this route again in the same direction, I would humbly suggest that you seat yourself on the left side after Karur, because before Tiruchi, you could see the gopuram of Srirangam, then as you enter Thanjavur the grand Brihadeeshwarar Temple or Periyakovil and after Swamimalai and just before Kumbakonam the miniature masterpiece of Darasuram. If you travel in the other direction from Kumbakonam to Thanjavur and as the train turns in the flatlands of this delta region, you would be able to see the Periayakovil from miles away. Good luck!
Beautiful video.... Tamilnadu is such a well connected with rails. Good information
I love travelling in oscillating icf coaches at high speeds
1:21 There is also another connection from coimbatore to Kumbakonam and Thanjavur chemozhi express ❤
Chemmozhi doesn't connect to Kumbakonam. It diverts at Thanjavur to the Nidamangalam line.
Consistently Beautiful Video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another great travelog in Platform7. Despite the fact that the coach in CBE-MV JS was 21 years old (built in 2002), it was well-maintained, which is a testament to the commendable efforts of the CBE coaching depot maintenance staff. It appears that in the Southern Railways, only the MAS-BZA JS train is currently operating with LHB rakes, while other JS trains like the ones in CBE and CLT are anticipating new coaches.
During my recent train journey from Coimbatore to Myladuthurai, I had the pleasure of experiencing a similar food adventure. However, we decided to indulge in breakfast at the 90-year-old RHR restaurant located just across the street. It is unbeliveable, this restaurant maintains high quality food and exists since 1931. On that particular day, there was a significant crowd at TJ/KMU and MV stations. Some passengers at MV station questioned why the train wasn't extended to CDM instead of being parked there for an additional 2 hours, as they had to go to the busstand to catch a bus to CDM.
Nice compilation video
Karur ❤
1:11:37 - Interesting old water tank (from the MG era I suppose) at KMU! It has that circular hole you see in all these tanks from that time.
Ji mayiladuthurai is my birth place😍

Delighted to see yr video on Wednesday sharp. Keep it up Mr Sankar.
Excellent coverage of the route. I watched your Bengaluru Mayiladuthurai video. One of the best coverages I have seen of the Trichy Mayiladuthurai Route.
Any plans to cover Coimbatore Pollachi, Trichy Rameshwaram routes?
All of them covered in fair detail in the past.

Sir, kindly present a video of salem ro bangalore via kuppam with full details
There are quite a few videos from that stretch on the channel already. Do check out
Tt s true Mr. Nair. Passengers should keep the tain clea near wash basin toilet etc. I hafe seen unknown persons using train toilets. Passengers think it is not copartments they travel is not their property, why I should care. Imagine the unreserved coaches.
3:31 Mr. Palindrome ❤️🔥
Awesome sir..
Can you know the reason why this train is stopping at Irugur???
Probably due to demand by the local mp
Beautiful 😍
TPJ DIVISIONS GIVES YOU THE BEST MPS in SR
No way. The best is in MAS division. Everybody else is lagging
Earnings from tn but facilities to kerala
What facility are they giving in Kerala? This is not the place to rant.
Please do a video comparing the revenue generated by sr from tn and Kerala
You aren't answering what facilities they are giving to Kerala. TN has almost double the route kms compared to Kerala, and is obviously bound to generate more revenue. But that isn't the point here.
R u planning to do MAS - KTYM Vande Bharat 😆
Sorry. No plans.
