I really appreciate the comparison, Brian! Great work!! It seems to me that the color in many scenes is better/deeper/richer on the 83”. For instance the night cityscapes at around 3:40 and 10:20 for me look much better on the 83” non-MLA TV. But I do understand what you are saying about the G3 MLA not looking washed out in person.

For me there are no doubts, from this video is clear that they killed all what good coming from plasma TV. Those TVs should not conceived to win the backlight of a window reflecting on it with sunlight shining through . If installed in the right place for me mla is an not needed addition that kills color accuracy

I have seen both in person and I really prefer the G3 83". It's plenty bright, especially since I have a dark room. And I need 83" minimum, so there's really no option. You guys thinking the C3 is close to the G3, the picture quality and options are totally improved on the G3, and the G3 has a 5 year panel warranty that includes burn-in, the C3 does not. Something to consider.

I just went from a 77” C8 to an 83” G3. I notice the size difference right away. The other thing I notice is that the G3 has better gray and near-black lighting. The G3 definitely looks better, and I wasn’t sure how that would be possible as I liked my C8 so much. But alas, the G3 was a nice step up. Brian, thank you for your review and comments between the two sets. I am sure in person there is a different perspective, but as you mentioned viewing on our end you get the impression that the 77" is slightly washed out compared to the 83". Almost like someone mis adjusted the contrast setting. I know the human eye sees things differently than the camera but awesome content and review. Currently I am viewing with a LGZ2 88" in a light controlled environment. Excellent black level and peak brights. Bright scenes that could make one snow blind. :)
Cannot imagine what a similar scene would do on the 77" G3.
Came from a UST 100" projector. Although the size was cool and color saturation was awesome with the tri laser system. The low-level blacks were not to my standard and the handling of HDR tone mapping required a Lumigan added to the system to be correct. Keep up the great work. I enjoy your comments and quality of your content.

My room isn’t to bright so I am not worried yet😐 I owned two Samsungs in a row and just didn’t like the gaming experience on them. Not sure... After forgetting my wish for OLED to be as bright as possible, i started to see 83" as better colour details while MLA in bright scenes looks washed out. I liked the 83", but of course in very dark scenes MLA kicks ass as it gives you that extra detail.

At 2:18. I can make out the fur on the critters chest, and it looks more like natural sunlight IMO. With some tweeking of the contrast, gamma, and brightness, I think the MLA panel can maintain the richness of dark areas and still hold good dark area details with the white subpixels.

We spent some time yesterday at Best Buy comparing the 77" G3 to the 83" G3 in order to decide whether the MLA panel should be critical to our decision. We had already ordered the 83" size as our viewing distance is about 18', but this video made me want to confirm the decision while there was still time to cancel the order. Best Buy had the two TVs mounted on the wall next to each other in a brightly lit showroom. Both were at the same brightness settings (including Vivid mode), and the pictures were synced and could be paused on whatever image we wanted to examine closely.
We found that details emerged from the shadows more clearly on the 77" set, but details in bright patches of the picture were more discernible on the 83" set. Oddly enough, front- and side-lit facial shots were consistently brighter on the 83" set. Both sets were plenty bright for viewing any content in the showroom. Bottom line: we did notice differences between the two TVs, but they cut both ways and left us finding no reason to prefer one image over the other for general viewing. Given that, the size of our TV room made the larger set the better choice for us.

      @BRIANSTECHTHERAPY  ปีที่แล้ว

Excellent question, and I myself have struggled with it in the same way. However, as good as the MLA G3 is, it simply can't grow in size. You guys need the size for your seating distance. The 77" vs 83" is substantial and I can never go smaller. The G3 at 83" is excellent and immersion is key. Be comfortable with your choice and enjoy it. Thank you so much for watching.

Having the G3 and X95L … Your in a unique position to help me!
My reasons not for the G3 were possible Coil Whine, and people on forums talk about VRR flickering in dark scenes. Have you experienced either?
Are you happy with the Sony, or would you swap it for a G3 83 given the chance?

@@KateJohnston-d4d With the G3, when it comes to image artifacts, I haven’t noticed any, to be humble. Comparing color quality, I think the G3 looks prettier, but Sony’s tv looks really awesome as well. Everyone that visits me, gets enchanted by the image quality and colors of the Sony TV. The main reasons I chose Sony, over LG was the lack of MLA on the biggest sized G3 version, price difference and that with Sony, I wouldn’t have to fear screen degradation for quite a while.
I can definitely 100% tell you that having a C2 in my kids room, and a G3 in our bedroom, the kids have claimed the Sony one for their main viewing choice :)

Personally I think TVs have gotten brave enough that is about processing and imagery and it's gone far past how much light comes into a room anymore
Unless I'm seeing something wrong through your camera the larger TV is much more detailed.
LG just took the same technology and made it brighter vs using quantum dots to vary the colour spectrum.
I think the 83 inch without MLA if you are looking at something at that size and have a theatre space for gaming and everything else is best pick. Again unless it's your camera at the light of the 77 mla is taking away from the detail.

Your comparison convinces me that I was right to cancel. MLA is a big step forward, and QD-OLED is still better to my tastes, and so it just seems wrong to spend so much money on a brand new TV that is a few years behind on important tech.
For what it's worth, I would be upgrading from my current CX 77". Either a 2023 83" OLED or a 77" MLA or QD-OLED would be at best side-grades full of compromises. I had an S90C on order but wasn't happy with how I saw it handle motion when watching soccer in one of their demos. It's a real challenge. The 77" oleds are superior this year from both MLA and QD-OLED. So it's hard to recommend a larger inferior model. However your sitting pretty far away but you may also be close enough to have a 77". Also going from 65" all the way to 83" is tough because it's a massive jump an they can look soft compared to the pixel density of a 65" . My advice is grab the best 77" you can and call it a day. But the 77 MLA: the details in the dark scenes and snowy scene: amazing!! That 83 really seems to fail in the dark scenes.
So two totally contradictory feelings. Is there a possibility to change the setting from the 77 so the water looks as realistic as the 83? Or will than that amazing details of the 77 in the dark en white scenes disappear? Hope to get a respond. Thanks!

A couple of daydreamers out here that hope to sell them for well above 3k.😅 Which is what it was being sold for at clearance prices 13 months ago. Hoping to find a steal that is too good to pass up because of the price/performance ratio. After all, they are harder to flip because of the size and hence the work required to transport them. I personally feel that the G3's gaming features can and will be brought back with future updates. However you have to judge it on where it's at right now and right now the S95C beats it in that regard.

Just finished basement, picked up g3 83 for just under 1900 Best Buy open box. What should I check for? Maybe it was a display model with a lot of use? Any advice is appreciated. Fantastic video thank you

That's the move! Enjoy it! I'd check for burn in, and various grayscale tests. Good luck!

So, this 83" is essentially a G2 with DTS audio, and Gen6 processor, and 4.2 audio speakers?

Unfortunately yes. The G2 becomes the 83" bargain

Hi Brian. You mentioned on it's own the G3 looks as though it is not washed out and only when actually compared to the G2 gives it that apoearance. My question to you is does that mean with the extra brightness with the MLA does the TV lose color volume and 2nd would you then opt for 77inch Samsung QD-OLED that seems to hold color better with the enhanced brightness or would you still go LG G3 for movie watching, sports and TV (no gaming).
In this video i personally prefer the rich image of the G2. Thanks for the video
