  • President Obama Farewell Address: Obama's final speech to the public will continue a tradition set in 1796 when George Washington addressed the American people for the last time as president. It will be followed by a "family reunion" for alumni of Obama's former campaigns, according to a save-the-date sent to alumni.
Obama has described the event as "a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey," to celebrate the ways the country has changed and "to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here."
For many supporters, Obama's decision to give the speech in Chicago rather than Washington added to the significance of the event. It was in Chicago's Grant Park that in 2008 he delivered his victory speech after becoming the nation's first black president.

Agree or disagree with Obama's leadership, what cannot be denied is he is a man of great dignity, integrity, respect, and maturity. He is a marvelous orator, he's intelligent, educated, articulate, humble, secure in himself, he has an open mind, a great sense of humor and wit, he's appreciative, and while I've disagreed with many of his policies throughout his tenure (I'm a conservative), speaking on his character and values he is absolutely someone that I want representing me and my country and that I hold great admiration for. This is a person of immense class and grace that deserves respect because he gives respect.
It is truly a tragedy that now comes in someone that holds none of these traits. Trump is a detestable, abhorrent person. He's a shameful embarrassment to our nation and an abysmal example to all as someone to look up to or follow. He could never make a speech like this without pointing out the "sore losers", how amazing he is, and spewing his infantile, petulant, vindictive vitriol everywhere while having his supporters chanting intolerance all the while. This is very disheartening to see, much less watching so many reveling in it.
So thank you, Obama. Throughout the next four years I'll always have your example to look at as to how a real president and leader should act. You were my president, and I say that with pride.
You will be very much missed.

He is an idiot. 80% of dumb people sound intelligent when using a teleprompter and following the script. Obama is an idiot but he is an excellent orator and has no problem lying, comes across as so truthful, but that does not make him a man of dignity, integrity, respect or maturity, he is an arrogant bastard who can not take any criticism, who never showed leadership when it came to the world, why all our enemies do as they want and our ally's have no trust in us. He lead from behind. Everytime he has opened his mouth, he spews lies because the majority of the people can't think for themselves. Except after 8 years of him, more and more people started to see the truth of what the idiot has done to this country and the election was because of his policies and Clinton was going to continue with those policies. The election is a reflection of his presidency.

Regardless of how we all feel about Barack Obama and what he did/didn't accomplish while as President, can we at least all agree that OVERALL (cause every President does have some failures) the United States of America is in a better place because of his presidency?
I am a democrat but I will put political bias aside for this critique (for the most part). Yes, ObamaCare did have its problems, the national debt nearly doubled, Guantanamo Bay has still not been closed, ISIS became a military problem, North Korea is a bigger threat than ever, and shootings are seen as a bigger/more common problem in our society today. Also, he pledged to bring the political parties in Congress together and be a unifier President, but (whether it was his policies or the decisions by the Congress) that didn't happen. There were plenty of failures during the last 8 years, even his biggest supporters won't deny that.
With that said, he does have many accomplishments, even with these failures; millions of people now have healthcare, Osama Bin Laden and many terrorist leaders are dead, the wars started by George W. Bush ended, Guantanamo Bay's prison population has been reduced to only a handful, and race-issues can't just be ignored like they used to be in our society. The unemployment rate is lower than it was during George W. Bush's 2nd term, the auto, banking, and housing industries have recovered from the greatest crisis since the 1930s, we have begun re-establishing relations with Cuba and Iran for the 1st time in decades, and the U. S. brought the whole world together on global climate change agreements. Furthermore, every LGBT citizen can legally marry, more states have legalized medicinal marijuana, women's pay wage gaps have decreased, he put 2 women on the Supreme Court, and millions of Hispanic and Islamic immigrants have become citizens. These were a lot of difficult issues to deal with in just 8 years, and even when the majority of politicians and citizens disagreed with this man he never gave up trying to make our country better despite many setbacks.
Overall, was Barack Obama a perfect President? No, I will admit that he did have some failures, though he shouldn't be blamed for every bad thing that happened during his Presidency. Is the country as a whole better off now than it was in January of 2009? Yes, but we still have more we need to come together on (Democrats, Republicans, and Independents) to keep making progress to improve the lives of every American. Finally, in terms of being the 1st African-American President, he did the best he could despite the prejudice and racism he faced. Plus, regardless whether you personally liked this man or not, he leaves office with a decent approval rating with more people liking him than those that don't.
While we don't know how many of his accomplishments or failures will be remembered in the near future, as a whole Barack Obama will be seen as the 1st African-American President that made this country better than it was when he started despite opposition and uncertainty; that (in my opinion) will be his legacy!

@@beaminup You forgot to check the facts but are repeating Trump propaganda. President Obama actually had a pandemic team in place and ready to go when both the flu and the Ebola crises occurred during his term of office. He knew these things happened every few years and wanted to be prepared. President Trump dismantled this team when he took office and also seems to have lost the Pandemic Preparedness Handbook which the Obama team prepared for their successor and had briefed the Trump team on. President Trump is certainly not to blame for COVID-19, but I do hold him accountable for not taking it seriously and treating it as a hoax dreamed up by Democrats. As a result we have over 270,000 deaths in the United States.

Worst case scenario they just end up high-fiving themselves and their numbers won't grow since there won't be any more hate out there for them to harvest. If you are watching this video you're here to respect this man and honor his legacy, not to get into another fruitless argument with the opposition.

Ppl have every right to stand up for themselves and not be labeled haters. What about the millions left jobless and uninsured because of obamacare-- do they matter? Or do Obama supporters only care about ppl who were helped by him. It's b.s. and no one will ever silence speaking up against a wrong facade of a not so successful presidency.

I'm not an american, I'm not a democrat and I'm not a republican. However, I will say that I sincerely think Barack Obama has been by far the classiest, most charismatic, most inspiring and downright coolest US president I have thus far seen. He will be greatly miss the world over and, regardless of what the new administration or the new congress do to repeal his accomplishments, his legacy will remain forever. It will remain because he has inspired a whole new generation of people, something I don't think any other US president (save perhaps Reagan) has done in the past 30-40 years.

Dignity + class + command = Obama what a legacy to leave behind will surely go down in the history books as one of the greats. When a person makes you feel sorry for the law (two term only) its when you realize that he has touched your heart. Not even gonna mention a word about his successor, its huge responsibility the man has left behind lets see who will fill or match his class sometime in the future. Goodbye Obama.

Washington supported slavery and owned slaves. Why would he be proud of a black man being president? He’d be disgusted.
