I left the Alta team 2 years ago already, but it still impacted me hard to see the supporter image with my ATT face on it and hear how the community is being abandoned. 😢
@@ECAVictor I know of you only by name and reputation. This game is being thrown aside because of one guy… and no one can understand why. Even Joel has abandoned us.
Its pretty bad. Early 2023 Alta decided to start a new PvPvE Extraction game and let the community think for a whole year that all their resources were going towards ATT when they weren't. They even made statements at the start of the year that said "I want to leave you hyped for 2023 because I know I am", and "We're ready to work on big things and we're going to need your help to do that." Forest and Combat trials aren't even in the Quest version of the game 2 years after the climbing tower port, and we've only been getting very minor quality of life changes in those 2 years.
The thing, as I see it, is that Alta changed priorities. Used to be making a game and obviously pay the people, but after the USD$14m investment the priority became to raise valuation and eventually sell the studio. It's not wrong or bad, but at that stage actually making a game is secondary, that's around the time me, Boramy, Serena and Timo left as we all disagreed with the new direction.
@@ECAVictor but where did all of that money go? How could they appease the investors if nothing we being created? What happened to Boramy? He just vanished and went completely off grid. Search his name, everything associated with Boramy stopped in 2022
A few very high profile hires behind the curtains cost quite a bit of money. But I don't know if they have appeased investors really well, they might, but they might not and this is the reason for letting people go. What I know from Boramy is that he wants some distance from it all and I won't say anything further in respect.
I played ATT for only a short time, but I remember being awed by its potential. It sparked wonder in me like Ultima Online did back in the day. Sad to hear that it's going down this route. Hopefully things will turn around and they'll not only support the game, but make it thrive!
It always comes back to money. We mentioned the idea of a subscription model in the discord to keep ATT profitable only weeks ago since forest was on a huge slow down and there was bad signs. It sounds like ALTA is choosing to end of life ATT instead. Sad since P2 is looking to be a dungeon runner with a crowded market. ATLA just shot what could of been their golden goose.
I'll admit, I'm a blind optimist. I'm hoping and pining for this game's future, because it's one that means so, so much to me, and seeing it in this state pains me. I get how the game was made on spaghetti code, and became difficult to actually add onto over a certain period of time, but I feel like with effort, it could have been optimized. I truly can't express how sad it makes me see something so sentimental to me in this state, and I feel bad for those who were laid off. The lack of transparency on ALTA's part is not only damaging to the community, but to their company as well. Or at the very least the company's image. When we're speaking to brick walls, of course eventually people are gonna want to break through the walls, and due to recent events, I say we as a community have all the right in doing so. As unlikely as it looks, we must speak out as a community and keep hoping for this game's future. Canceling supporter memberships, being vocal about how we dislike the way things are going, ect. Truly, I think the awful communication is the main issue, because they never really told us much about what direction they were going to be going in with their company, and in conjunction, ATT. I really want to be able to eat my words and say this game had a grand comeback, truly I do. And while I continue to hold out my hope, I don't see it happening. I challenge ALTA to make me eat my words, because I'll gladly eat those words like a 5 course meal, with a smile on my face and a bib on my neck.
Man you missed something special. I joined in like 2019 and the next 2 years were beautiful. There was culture and community and things were perfectly rough - things that were broken were just in the right way. It was really unique, we had community wide drama such as the US server murders and the creation of the PvP servers, we had all the major updates that were broken af but amazing still. It's really sad that the game has stagnated and gone in this direction but these things just happen. People have been saying for years "Only time will tell" but at this point, I don't think it's recoverable.
I wish I was a game maker, I'd make a version like this. Except I'd change and add several other things to it. We all have our wishlists to improve this game. I typed out a novel on here, but deleted it just for this post. I have a ton to say, being a long term player (2656hrs) for many years also. ATT is something I'll always have fond memories of, even the signs of it's slow death were unavoidable, it's the game I made the majority of my current friends from, the reason I try to play more games with friends and even the reason I was introduced to other friend groups. it's no exaggeration that ATT changed my life in a pretty major way and I'll always remember that, P2 seems like it'll be trying to shove it's way into a already crowded space and with most of altas OG staff gone or silent now it might just be a dead company but hopefully the vision ATT doesn't die with alta maybe, just maybe some former alta devs will come work on project campfire :D
I need everyone to please go and read Glenn's announcement. He did say ATT would continue to be supported. My INTERPRETATION is... Elandre and James will continue to support the backend (keeping the servers stable), but I DOUBT updates will happen for some time.

I'd been playing since 2021 and previously got in arguments/dogpiled on by the discord community for complaining about the stagnant nature of the game. How amusing it is to see everyone finally wake up and stop glazing Alta. They've legitimately not made a single meaningful content update in almost 4 years.
I love A Township Tale, but I've always felt development was too slow, it seemed like they were way too focused on cosmetics vs other stuff for a game that has been in development for as long a ATT has. I get money is needed, but the trade off should have been content. I've seen solo devs make more progress in a year than Alta has in years.
