  • I recently found a nice simple way to use line inputs for sampling with Koala Sampler app on my Android phone and thought I'd share the method I used.
    Sorry about the audio & video quality, I'm still getting my desktop recording setup properly.
    The USB sound card I used in the video: www.amazon.com...

    I went through this same tortured process with cables. I actually did give up! Now I can see the way forward. Thanks.

    Hey, I have one of those, both of those coincidentally. Somewhere in a drawer, completely forgot! This is excellent, thanks for the experimenting, I was honestly about to order a splitter because it was such a hazzle getting a sound into my samsung koala. Glad I searched a bit first and found this. Cheers, mate. Now if only I had a short usb c->a cable, it seems a but clunky with the brick there into the phone.

      Glad it was useful for you! On the subject of short usb-c->a cables, I got one of these recently for use connecting a teensy running M8 to a handheld game console and it works very well: www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01LX0IF95

      @@maksmakes excactly something like that, yeah. Gotta go look for that. The setup so far works like a charm. Been using it couple times already. Thanks again for the tips.

    its fundamental to listen to the keyboard and the koala, to figure out the recordings

    I was stuck on how to "monitor" myself
    (I was inputting Maschine sounds into Koala, iOS) at first I thought there was no way to hear what you were recording into Koala, even tho it WAS recording well,
    But all i needed to do was hit the headphone icon

    Thanks for the tip. What's your Android brand? I tried it with a Nokia C1 2nd Edition, it accepts OTG, I used 2 interfaces (one similar to what you used and a Xenyx 302 USB), but it didn't work. Funny that it even powered the Xenyx up.

      I've done this with several Android devices including Pixel 3a, 4a, a Lenevo 8in tablet, I think it should working with any fairly recent Android device which supports OTG - it maybe your C1 can't supply enough power though for your audio interface?

      @@maksmakes I figured that I have a dodgy USB interface. As for the Xenyx, I will further experiment. But I'll try this mod :-)

    Your phone has an input jack? Never seen a phone with an input, only an output.

    • @maksmakes

      It sure does, the TRRS jack is *both* mono input and stereo output, that's how you're able to use a headset with a mic on phones which have a 3.5mm jack.

    So why can't it just record through the aux mic input?

    • @theledleague
      @theledleague 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to have trrs jack like the ones that come with headsets. The jack is divided as left right mic. You notice these jacks have three rings instead if two.

      @d4t4b4s3f4c3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theledleague I get that, I thought I tried that, and I haven't seen or heard any explanation of anyone doing it.

    • @theledleague
      @theledleague 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've cut a headset wire just before the mic and rewired(twisted) lol, the mic wire and married it with whatever input I wanted. Just remember When you activate the input you're canceling out the Androids microphone also you have to make sure that your wiring external speakers or whatever output you want so you can monitor whatever you're recording

    • @d4t4b4s3f4c3
      @d4t4b4s3f4c3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theledleague So it's mono input only, right? Also what version of Android were you using. Looking back it could be possible that the cable I was using was just broken. I've switched Koala to a first gen iphone SE at this point because it crashes way less and the sound quality is much better.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, you just gotta restart the app and plug the source into the mic input again. It's trial and error, I'd recommend the audio interface over this method for better sound quality, but it does work.
