    I used Ikea kitchen planner to plan the reno in my prior condo and again now at my new to me 70yr old home... lovely tool for a DIY planner like me...some quirks but it works well especially to visualize things...the cabinet store kitchen designer had to adjust to match their cabinets but its a great place to start for me as the end user...

    Hey Mark! You know those base cabinet stand mixer lifts - the ones where your huge stand mixer sits on a “tray” inside a base cabinet and it rises up and out of the cabinet on a counter-balanced spring mechanism so the mixer can be used at counter height? Wouldn’t it be cool to have a coffee station on the same kind of mechanism except that rather than taking up the entire base cabinet it pulled out from about the height of a base cabinet’s center shelf and then rose up (that way you could still store things in the bottom half of the base cabinet under the coffee station’s shelf). Have you ever seen a product that could do this, or would it have to be a DIY thing? Having something like this means that the coffee station isn't sitting on the countertop taking up a lot of real estate.
    Also, you’ve done a lot of videos on base corner cabinet mechanisms that pull out and upper cabinet mechanisms that pull down but I don’t think you’ve covered mechanisms that can be operated (or activated) by using your foot or knee to open the base cabinet drawer or door - things like the Blum Servo Drive. Why not do a video on the types of products or mechanisms people can use to open a cabinet if their hands are full?

    Hi Mark, I'm loving your videos! Tell me if I missed this in some video, but how do you use the planner to design the corner of a peninsula, where the corner cabinet opens to the room on the other side of the peninsula (this would be instead of a blind corner). For example if a peninsula divides the kitchen from the living room, and I want some drawers to open on the living room side, how would I do this in the planner, and what pieces would I need for the installation?

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't covered this, but I definitely should. I've been thinking about updating a video like this. Thanks for the suggestion. You can manually rotate cabinets on the floor plan, but it has limitations. Plus there are some things that need to be considered when installing this type of solution that you can't customize with the IKEA planner.

    • @rachelyeshurun
      @rachelyeshurun หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MTKDofficial looking forward to it. FYI, I also ran into trouble trying to design a peninsula with back to back cabinets. For example if you want to put a cooktop in the peninsula (just theoretical), you need it to be deeper than just 60cm. The planner would just not allow me place a cabinet back to back neither with a lazy susan nor with a blind corner. It left an empty space! However, I could place cabinets back to back with the rest of the run of the peninsula.

    Great video. You prevented me from making some mistakes. One issue I can't resolve, when I click the question mark (the help center) on the top right hand side of the kitchen planner, I keep getting this warning: "The minimum distance between a cutout and the end of the countertop is 3 7/8". All I did was add a cabinet with a sink. I didn't choose the sink placement within the cabinet. That's preset by the tool. If I place cabinets on both sides of the sink with or without a gap (that the tool fills in with a spacer when there is a gap) the warning remains. Nothing I can do in the countertop editor seems to help either. Even selecting a smaller sink doesn't help. Any ideas?

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't pay attention to the warnings. Also, I always toggle off the automatic filler. This needs to be done for each cabinet. It's the last toggle when you select modify. It only adds the filler visually but not on your item list. This way I can keep track of the fillers I need. But yeah, ignore the warnings, especially that one.

      Hej! I work with the planner as I build IKEA kitchens. You can make angles but its very tricky and almost impossible in the planner to make this the correct angle. You can draw your walls diagonal but you cannot click on the angles to change it to make it perfect. You would need to move the wall constantly to make this correct. :(

    Cabs sizes show cm, not in. I am logged in US and English, oddly walls, openings all show as inches. Others complained of this online. Yours shows inches though.

    Our kitchen is none of those shapes. The back half is narrower than the front half. There are only 3 room shape choices. The closest might be the one with the corner cut-out. If we could replicate that cutout on the opposite side, it would like like our kitchen.

    • @johnf5122
      @johnf5122 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are templates, you change them.
      My kitchen is a galley, rear wall is less wide than the front. I select the box template, click Openings > Wall Openings < now you drag on that name until it is on the wall you want it on. Ok, now you can click Modify on the left (that wall opening you placed must still be highlighted for the Modify to show)
      In Modify options, you change the width, height of your (((missing))) wall section (the area making that wall smaller than the wall across from it) ok, after you do that, it should be set, but, with the opening highlighted (click and hold on the opening, drag it to exactly where it needs to be, so to either side (leaving the rest of the wall as it should appear) Save your design as you get things the way you want them, then you can click them, and make a copy, in case 1 you're working on becomes messed up. Try it, it works, I did it for mine.

    My husband measured and is designing the kitchen using the Kitchen Tool, but the cabinets keep flagging red indicating they don't fit. It says there needs to be two inches space. Is this legit and your cabinet doors will really open into walls and each other, or is it an error or guideline?

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      2" is overkill. You do need some filler space and this depends on how the plumb the wall is. However, those hinges are 110 degree hinges and don't need any space to open. I would try and leave an 1" of filler to be safe (against a wall) and don't worry too much about the warnings. I get them all the time too.

    Oh dear! I am reading all these comments and feeling extremely dumb . I have been battling with the Ikea Kitchen Planner for several days; but I cannot work out how to use it effectively, because I cannot make sense of how to remove, change and reposition. I get that you have to be in the right "mode" (as in room sizing or appliance etc.); but when I put an appliance (or a window opening etc.) into my kitchen, I cannot work out how to move it along the wall, change its position etc. .. I even get lost with the arrows when trying to move a window along. I have been going around in circles!! I realise that this is not the fault of Mark; just my inability to understand the process. 😥 Am I the only one that is struggling with this? If I am, I guess I will just leave it alone; but I so wanted to attempt to design our future Ikea kitchen; so if anyone has any (very basic!) advice that I might understand, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

      Hey Julia. I find the planner a bit clunky at times too and it took me a bit to get used to it. I find it pretty easy to work in 2D mode when moving and rotating cabinets. When it comes to windows, the easiest way to slide them is to enter the dimension into the box on the right or left of the window. This will set the window or door to that location and you don't have to mess around with trying to slide it with your mouse. Keep at it!
