  • Thinking about opening up a Tire Shop? There are many people thinking about opening up their own tire shop biz, or is going to manage one, or has one but would like to learn more about the ins and outs, and what’s potentially ahead down the road.
    Video taken in the SoCal 626 SGV area but applies pretty anywhere in the US and other countries where there is a city population of over 30k people / 100k metro area.
    It is recommended to work at a Tire Shop for 2 years minimum before going off on your own to avoid easily avoided issues, get thru problems a lot faster and cost you a lot less money on expenses that could of been avoided which can turn a business from making you money to a business that’s costing you money.

      @@IbnFalastin to start with whatever amount you got will do for inventory, you will be building up every week as you go. As long as you got all the equipment/tools you need that will be more important than how much inventory you got because the new tire warehouses can give you credit and you can pay them at the end of the month that’s a good advantage when starting out.

    before you open, research your market (city, location, competition). I don't care how long you've had your business. Most customers are your customers until they find someone cheaper, especially in this economy (2023). Set your hourly rate and by God stick to it. For services. price your service based on equipment used and not on competition. The gentleman in this video explains that you can buy used machinery, this is true. But DON'T charge based on what you paid for the equipment, charge based on the value. I have a newer model of his favorite machine which cost me $13,000. Add a $300 shop jack, $300 air gun ($800 snapon or matco cordless impact), $3000 shop compressor, total $16,000 in equipment needed for a simple flat repair. Keep in mind that the equipment doesn't work itself, human labor has to be factored in. You are not going to invest $17,000 to make a profit charging $10-$20. You'll be living paycheck to paycheck....if that. You will be packed THINKING you're making a profit, but far from it. Might as well work for someone. work less and get paid more. Stick to your guns gentlemen, educate yourselves, huge difference between opening a business and running a business, good luck and God bless your endeavors.

    • @LAMamba626
      @LAMamba626  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true that’s why I buy used machines at 5k rebuilt if you look at my newer videos you can see one I just bought recently. About the $20 labor charge , the thing is every shop charges the same. If I would to charge more than that then a lot of customers won’t come to me they will go elsewhere like you said they will find somebody cheaper. But Labor $20 per tire ain’t bad, if you and your crew do a cars 4 tires in 20 min which is the average time for us then that’s $80 in 20 min and you move on to the next car quick.

      @@shanra4764 you can look for individual supplies to save some money but usually all shops buy from a vendor that drives to your shop and you buy from them because you rub out of supplies randomly so you pick what you need quick instead of waiting a few days to get. Used tires are discarded for a reason. Side wall compromise, treadwear, dry rot. A new China tire supercedes a premium used tire in many cases. Tpms sensors broken by tire installation and customer will not be told. There are tire shops who comply with DOT laws but most don't. Cupped tires being sold, uneven treadwear tires being sold. They buy used tires from car dealers who discard them because they are declared no good. If they declare them no good? If the vehicles suspension is worn, a used tire will become more dangerous for unforseen circumstances. Tire safety can be a life or death situation. Buy new instead of used. New economy tires are available for a set of used. Exact tire size is also important. 5 years, 5/32 tread depth are deemed for a tire to be destroyed, especially for sidewall collapsing compromise. Over corrections on steering will blow sidewalls and vehicle rollover can happen. These are facts. Research these facts for your and your family's safety.
