    Wow! Probably the most: to the point, informative, no flashy music, no guys sniffing their boogers, no talking a bout their kids or pets, no sigh-ing like they want to be somewhere else or doing something else, no excessive swearing to act tough, and on topic video I've ever seen on TH-cam!!! YOU DEFINITELY ROCK!!!

      I call bullshit on your no bullshit comment. Referring to a Toyota Solaris as a race car is ridiculous. It was marketed as a sports car and even thats a stretch.

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the car. For AWD and 4x4 cars you will have your traction complain about the wheels spinning at different rates with dash lights. They are super sensitive. With that ES300 in the picture, it is FWD and you may have ABS come on a lot because it's detecting different wheelspin speed. You may even have to activate TRAC OFF manually. There are no pros. The only thing is you have a tire that you need and are not riding on a bald tire where you could lose control and hurt someone else or your car. If you're going to junk the car soon like two or three years, you probably can take the risk. You see the driver's quarter panel getting eaten away by rust, so she's not going to last much longer.

    Great video. Sometimes you can get a great deal on used tires if you look at your local auto wrecking yard. I got a great deal on a pair of used pirelli tires at the junkyard that were from a wrecked car. I got the the set for $100, they had plenty of thread left. 2 years with them so far and no issues.

    One of the best info-packed videos i've seen on tires. Didn't really agree with your Chinese manufacture comment. Worked at a Walmart T&L for awhile and we found the Chinese Nexen tire performed nearly as well as a Firestone for longevity and service life. If you consider most of your tires are made in China anyway (under different names); and that in Canada ALL tires have to meet a minimum spec; then the lower cost still makes them a good buy. The Chinese suffer more from quality control issues rather than quality issues; so between the number they sell and a few more bad apples squeaking by; you are bound to come across a few more horror stories.

    Good video. A couple of points to add:
    1. Match speed rating of tire to your vehicle. There may be numbers at the end of the size, something like 99W or 98V. The letter is the speed rating. Going over on speed rating is good. Going under is not good.
    2. Tires with dressing on the side walls will crack rubber sooner than later and should be avoided.
    3. If picking at the junkyard, look for tires that are mounted and holding air. When dismounted, inspect inside for hidden damage. A tire in an accident or driven while flat may show damage.
    4. Major brands are always good. Unknown brands can be good. Look for country of manufacture. Thailand and Korea are good. That other very large Asian country is not good.

    Thanks for providing all the detailed information in this video! I actually bought 2 used tires this week, different brands (Bridgestone & Goodyear) but the same size- 215/55 R17, the recommended tire size for my car.... I really wanted to buy 2 of the SAME exact tire, but the shop didn't have 2 of the same "used", unfortunately....
    But I did choose 2 of the "newest looking" tires they had in my size & I made sure to check the date on them! 👀

      @cheryljones2009 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@speedkar99 Ok yes, I made sure to check the dates & the tread levels before they were installed, but searching online (after the fact) it looks like the Bridgestone Ecopia ep422 plus tire I have on the left front is actually a much more "expensive" tire, compared to my other one on the right front, the Goodyear Reliant...
      Will that make much of a "difference" on the car?

  • @letsgonow5641
    @letsgonow5641 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I always use to buy used tires but i stopped. You can rarely get all 4 matching tires although the shop i go to tries its best to find the closest possible matching tires. At times theyve told me to come back in a day or two an they would get me the closest tires. They also charged depending on the tire condition a few bucks more or less depending on the condition. Usually a decent set of 4 will cost you $160. About 2 years ago i decided to go the new route and bought a set of entry level Yokohomas for $200 on sale. When i went the used route i was usually going back to get a set of new used tires every 2 years. Also most used tires shops tend to only give you a week warranty.

    Great video, it really helps understand more on tyres in general. As of personal experience, I had whole set of 4 yo Michelin Primacies in 215/50 with a lot of tread left which I bought out of necessity for like 100 E (would be spending over 600 E if new). Best tyres I have ever owned. You really have to be very careful when inspecting used tyres though.

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @biglee36
      @biglee36 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you wouldn't have 4/32 in imperial,,it should be 1/8 by virtue of using the lowest common denominator. You don't have a 20/32 spark plug.. Otherwise some helpful information in there.

      Lee Pike
      Uh, no, you don't, but thanks for playing!
      A "thirty-second" is the measurement unit. Much like a _milli-meter_ (thousandth of a meter) is the measurement unit for wrenches. Just as you don't call a "10 mm" wrench a "1cm," you don't reduce 32nds to the common denominator.
      ...but, hey, we're all real impressed you aced elementary-school math!

    • @LAactor
      @LAactor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@biglee36 You don't know tires. It's always 32nds. 2/32 is when you need to be tossing the tire. Minimum depth. And they make them on passenger tires generally (well why should I educate you.. you probably think 100% treadlife is 32/32nds HAHAHAH) it isn't. Google before you talk out of your other end, Lee.

    Tires wear from 10/32 to 2/32, that is 8/32 usable wear.
    If you buy new tires when reaching 4/32, you use 6/32 of tread. So, you only use the 3/4 (6/8) of the legal wear, basically you spend 33% more money for the tires, probably increased your safety for 2-3X or more.

    5:45 point proven i dont care what a facebook post talks about. This guys knows his stuff. People say dont buy used tires because they will be worn.
    If all the things he said are checked
    Good quality tyre.
    Used for 20,000km lets say
    1 or 2 years old.
    With soft good thread and no issues with uneven wear.
    Why not save a couple of bucks,if youre planning to drive it less in that season or maybe just sell it...
    Most tyres last 5 years.
    But buying a 2 year old tyre for half of the price for a new one seems FAIR in terms of money

      I love how these stupid a££ magazines say we compared a new tyre with 8mm thread depth to a used tyre with 1.6mm depth ? bro are you fcking insane 😂😂😂 at least compared a new tyre which has been driven maybe quality to a Chinese tyre which was in storage for 3 years,otherwise what the F are you even comparing,used tyres are dangerous,well in that case let me buy new tyres every year wtf ???😂😂

      Tires are typically measured in imperial.

    • @speedkar99

      The cracks are the worse...the rubber has dried and those tires will be very slippery
      I suppose they can be used to burn laps at a drift event or trade in a clunker

    I bought an old car that was parked with a new set of tires for 5 years. The owner kept them inflated. I pumped the tires up and took the car home. About a month later, one of the tires separated. The tread look as if interlaced fingers pulled apart.

      All tires degrade over time. My neighbor had a set of tires in his garage ozone deplete and cracked all out. It depends on the compounds of the tire at manufacture. They can vary in durability greatly. By the way, there were no windows in his garage.

      @@oby-1607 Buddy used to buy military surplus at Fort Ord. One of his lots had a few tires wrapped in paper. They looked beautiful. He put them on a farm wagon and they lasted a week. They all chunked out and practically disintegrated.

    So many people can't afford new tires anymore and simply drive on bald tires until cash flow improves or there is a coupon at Costco. It's way safer to just replace it with a used tire and stop putting off tire replacement.
