I know it's only 8bit but its the best damn 8bit that's for sure. You can attach a Ninja to it and get your 10bit but honestly it's not that much different. That internal 8bit if shot right is magic. But yeah you did the C100 dirty with that outdoor shot :) haha love the channel man!
for me, the BMPCC OG looks washed out for some reason whilst the canon has more color, but the white balance always feels off.(i think it has more pop then the BMPCC OG) the canon's colors remind me of the KM DiMage Z3's colors, the way it shifts the reds and oranges and adds green is strange, the BMPCC OG tries going for a blueish look with it's white balance, which doesn't add to it's already washed out look. i think the canon wins here, but i think you should do some more testing.
The two are pretty close indoors, with the BMPCC rendering those lamps with a bit more yellow than the natural warmth of the Canon. But outdoors, the Canon pulls ahead overall, maintaining saturation/contrast while the BMPCC takes on a bit of ozone blue haze. I wonder whether it has weaker UV filtration. What color is that shirt, exactly? Canon almost has it orange, BMPCC sits just slightly on the blue side of red. The LOCA on the Canon 85mm is strong enough to see green edges on the rocks in BG even when relatively low contrast. The Pocket Cam looks sharper, which is impressive considering it's not supersampled.
BMPCC is the winner here. More organic pleasing image in both scenes. Be honest with yourself, are you gonna keep the C100 long term? It's a beast with no purpose as everything else you have beats it. The BMPCC kills it, and you made the point for keeping it clearly in the video.. It's fun because it beats everything despite it's outdated simple prototype like design. The C100 is Television B cam, the BMPCC is a poor mans CINEMA camera. What profile were you using on the C100ii? Canon Log or Wide DR? I made a few tweaks to the Wide DR profile on the Camera (mostly just increase saturation), then I didn't need to do anything in post. Clog1 barely offers any more dynamic range, so its not worth using it IMO.... too much hassle.

The speedbooster, assuming it contains a lens in it, may have reduced the 3D pop of the Zeiss 85mm lens. ...Bringing the lightrays of different chroma that had been well dispersed by the poppy Zeiss lens, back towards each other to create a flatter rendering. Acting like an ED lens element would. (Reference: Shaul's research at the Dirty Photography Club TH-cam Channel that you know well.) But I may be wrong. It would depend on the optical qualities, especially the index of refraction, of the speedbooster lens. To evaluate dimensionality per se, it's probably better to not introduce a second independent variable: to not use of any other lens between the lens and camera being tested. This implies testing the pop independently, because of course you needed the speedbooster to create equivalence between the two lenses for other key test factors. Does this seem reasonable to you? (I'm still in early learning on these lens dynamics, so I'm unsure.)
Also, I'm so thrilled to see head-to-head tests of these classic cameras. I'm considering buying one because of what I've been learning from you. Ever grateful. - Gary
Uhhh.. Techy hyper detail to point of boredom for some... ensues: Shaul has also recently explained why he contends that higher sensor pixel pitch increases a camera's ability to render the inherent dimensionality of a poppy lens. The BMPCC OG has an extremely high pixel pitch of 6.5 microns. Shaul deems a pitch over 6 microns to be great. (Only a few non-specialty cameras have exceeded that so far (e.g. Canon 5D Classic, Nikon D700.) The pixel pitch of the C100 calculates as 5.85 microns. Also a very high standard. Possible conclusions: 1. The BMPCC ought to have equal or slightly better poppiness than the C100 from the same lens, based on its slightly higher pixel pitch. But both should have great 3D pop with a high-pop lens, if no other factors were in play. (I'm not qualified to guess what else could be in play.) 2. If the BMPCC is judged to have less dimensionality than other cameras you've tried with the Zeiss lens, seek and if possible test other factor(s) that could cause this... such as the lens in a speedbooster. - Gary
I apologize that I must correct a misinterpretation I had, that I wrote in the above messages yesterday. Today Shaul of the Dirty Photography Club clarified to me that he uses and suggests a 6+ micron pixel pitch not because it's necessarily ideal for rendering dimensionality, because smaller pixel pitches can do that well too. (I've seen this also.) Rather, "...large pixel pitch only allows using nicer lenses with a smaller penalty in terms of visible flaws." I happily stand corrected.
The Sony looked so green when you threw it into the comparison with the Canon and BM. The OG looks like it has a slight blue/purple tilt to it that I haven't seen before when you've used it. Combine them both by using a Magic Lantern hacked Canon DSLR.
Actually you can see the differences. We’re talking about two awesome cameras. Blackmagic and Leica wins in sharpness, while i prefer Canon skintones. Maybe the blues in the Canon are a tad bit too saturated. Reds in Canon are too desaturated. So my preference leans towards the Blackmagic, but once again, I love the both of them.
Ok, it’s a minor point of course. I found the 2013 post from Brian Caldwell the Speedbooster designer who clarified it’s 3.02 if you compare the diagonals and 2.88 if you compare the horizontals. Enjoy your videos. Cheers.
See if you could rent a canon XA70 and it also has 4k down-sampled FHD, with a reasonably portable form factor and 25.5mm equiv at the wide end, I see it being pretty practical

Try Canon EFS lenses for facial lock autofocus: EFS 35mm macro f/2.8 STM IS EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS EFS 18-130mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS EFS 50-255mm f/4.5-5.6 STM IS EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS EFS 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 STM IS
The "secret" with the Blackmagic is just that the colour profile is a bit desaturated. You can replicate that on any othe camera. The problem it has is that the sensor is too small so it never has any good background blur. The Canon C100 II is just too soft, it hurts my brain to watch.
i wish they redid the OG Pocket with a better body and in 2 or 4k.. i got a S16 Cooke zoom lens., would be perfect. it just has great color.. it's a CCD sensor isn't it? they need to bring back CCD regardless
Omg BMPCC is killing it. After I look to BMPCC beauty, I want to vomit after I look to the Canon... And I know Canon is good when you compare much of others...
6:07 But the reason you would go with a bullshit camera like either of these is just because of the natural look, it takes us back to a time where things were normal and like all your digital modernmirrorless its so sharp and edgy and unreal, what happend to walking in a forrest and breathing fresh air and being in the nature. This takes us time to a better time, a simpler time. Amen to that!
The canon 24mm is not very sharp on the C100. I don’t have a C100, but I do have a 5Dmk4, and that is a beast in 1080P, and it auto focuses better than the C100, plus it’s full frame. The kit lens for that camera is the world’s greatest kit lens, the 24-105 Toneh 4. I also have the BM OG with the BM .58 Speedbooster for canon glass. I have a few canon lenses, so I like the canon Speedbooster. I mainly use the Canon 16-35 Toneh 4 which has IS, which is better than no IS. I’m not into 3D pop though. I’m a sharp guy, not a pop guy.

Most of the pros on the BMD forum use a “crop factor“ of 2.88 for the OG. I think that’s based on the diagonal measurement but I could be mistaken.
Metabones themselves say it's 3.02x and their 0.58x speedbooster brings it to 1.75x.
Ok, it’s a minor point of course. I found the 2013 post from Brian Caldwell the Speedbooster designer who clarified it’s 3.02 if you compare the diagonals and 2.88 if you compare the horizontals. Enjoy your videos. Cheers.
BMC with phase-detect autofocus and a tiny bit better sensors, in my dream getting an upgrade to global shutter
See if you could rent a canon XA70 and it also has 4k down-sampled FHD, with a reasonably portable form factor and 25.5mm equiv at the wide end, I see it being pretty practical
I can't ever get my video this good on a sunny day. It's either too bright or too dark. I've tried everything.
As a c100mkii owner the color looks terrible. but I still love it.
The Blackmagic has intrigued me.
I like the black magic better. Thought it was the canon. Then you went outside and I liked the canon 😂.
Then by the end I was liking the black magic better outside 🤷♂️
To me, at 13:24, your left shoulder and arm was in focus (in both)... but your face was getting just a bit blurry.
I can’t wait for him to get the R5ii and be completely blown away by CLog2
Try Canon EFS lenses for facial lock autofocus:
EFS 35mm macro f/2.8 STM IS
EFS 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS
EFS 18-130mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS
EFS 50-255mm f/4.5-5.6 STM IS
EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS
EFS 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 STM IS
What picture profile did you use on the C100 ? Is it C-log ? Both camera show a limited dynamic range : your white shorts are almost clipping.
Would love to see the comparison between penny s9 and zve1
I've already done s5 II vs a7s III.
@@cameraconspiracies thanks will check it out
@@cameraconspiracies also thanks for being nice
I think I could teach Markus Pix a thing or two about lighting.
Find you a scrub STM lens and you get better auto focus on the c100
I would just use gaussian blur in Resolve to soften any overly sharp footages. You just have to know how to play it right.
C100 has the pop!
....but the tiniest large pixels you´ve ever seen!!.....lol
How can 2 high end cameras come up with such completely different colours side by side on the same subject?
The OG looked great in that outdoor setting. (Not cinematic... filmic.)
The "secret" with the Blackmagic is just that the colour profile is a bit desaturated. You can replicate that on any othe camera. The problem it has is that the sensor is too small so it never has any good background blur. The Canon C100 II is just too soft, it hurts my brain to watch.
Exposure is never not not matching.
8:05 ahaaa you got me good there 😊
i wish they redid the OG Pocket with a better body and in 2 or 4k..
i got a S16 Cooke zoom lens., would be perfect. it just has great color.. it's a CCD sensor isn't it?
they need to bring back CCD regardless
bmpcc is excellent
It was really easy to distinguish Canon by skinton at the beginning)
Was the sky grey (BM) or blue (Canon)? Is your orange backpack faded and dirty (BM) or fresh (Canon)? The BM grey sky reminds me of Sony.
Omg BMPCC is killing it. After I look to BMPCC beauty, I want to vomit after I look to the Canon... And I know Canon is good when you compare much of others...
It’s almost like you were wearing two different shirts. The colors are so different between these two. Which was more accurate?
6:07 But the reason you would go with a bullshit camera like either of these is just because of the natural look, it takes us back to a time where things were normal and like all your digital modernmirrorless its so sharp and edgy and unreal, what happend to walking in a forrest and breathing fresh air and being in the nature. This takes us time to a better time, a simpler time.
Amen to that!
crazy how color of shirt is so different
BMPCC looked vastly more organic then the Canon did, the ultimate test might be Canon 5DM2 with magic lantern.
Loved the bmpcc colours and WB 😍👍👍👍 the best ever. Give me that look with today's luxurious cameras and I will stop being an old fart 🙏
Contrast with the Canon is considerably better.
BMPCC crushes Canon in those outdoor shots
he did the C100 dirty on that outdoor shot. Because the C100 is a much better shot than what he showed there unfortunately. it looks like a shot from a camcorder on auto circa 2006 lol.
For photos my A6000 still holds up it came out in 2014
I tried to impress my partner with a sexy dance. It ended with me knocking over a lamp and accidentally kicking the cat. Smooth moves, indeed🍒
I actually think the ZV-E1 bits look better than either the C100 ot the BMPCC...
Hi Kasey how you doing.
