If you didn't understand the King Piccolo stuff, there's a whole series before Z called Dragon Ball. King Piccolo is a central villain in that series. Dragon Ball is the story of Goku as a child, rather than him as an adult in Z Edit: Oh & to the Stone Cold reference. TFS are also huge wrestling fans so you can expect a few more wrestling themed jokes!
Adding to the explanation: King Piccolo's plan was to wish to return to his youth, literally the same as Slug. Only difference is that before dying King Picolo spit an egg that grew into the Picolo we have in the series.
If you can find one, a DBZA playlist that puts the movies and specials in the right spots between episodes will help you make a lot more sense of them, since they might have characters in them you've never seen if you watched one that came out in season 3 etc. Dragonball Z movies are kinda weird, they were stand-alone stories that were originally not part of the actual story, and they kinda use a snapshot of what characters were like in the show at the time they were made. TeamFourStar tries to weave their stories into the main plot, but they still presented them in that particular release order. Dates get all screwy because of reuploads, so you can’t trust the video datestamp for the order either.
To clarify the King Piccolo stuff: King Piccolo was a villain in the preceding series ("Dragon Ball" rather than "Dragon Ball Z") who was Kami's evil counterpart split off from Kami when he was partially consumed by evil. Like Lord Slug, King Piccolo wished in his old age to return to the prime of his youth, and took over the world. He killed chaotzu, roshi, and krillin before they got wished back. He was defeated by Goku and chose to reincarnate into the Piccolo we know, except current Piccolo wasn't born with only evil, so he was able to change. The Lord Slug stuff is practically a copy paste of that entire plotline, even down to him being the other half of Guru, who you will meet later.
Yeah, kinda hilarious that slug is literally just king piccolo. I watched Z first, but didnt get to any of the movies until after I watched og DB. This entire movie was... Quite the watch
