When I was out in Colorado I stayed at Red Feather Lakes, Colorado near Fort Collins and supposedly. They have like 18 lakes and I was hooked up for 2 months. Which cost me a little bit around 2000 a month? If not more than that so I decided to see if there were any free campsites. Well, there happened to be a free campsite. Write down the Arode behind fox golf course and? It was absolutely stunningly beautiful. You're surrounded by mountains. I got to see a moose and I got to see 2 or 3 bears. One of them came down to my campsite. And the 2 was a mama and a baby. It could have been the Mommy coming down to the campsite. I don't know but stunningly beand if you drive back farther. They have some little lake areas that you can swim in or just walk around. Just a beautiful area.
Jennifer, what an awesome story, thanks for sharing! We love camping off grid for a lot of the same reasons. Many of our favorite campsites ever have been free, from Alaska and all across the lower 48. 👍🏻 - Howard
1. Close to town. 2. Good cell service. 3. Amazing views. Subscribed. All of those things are what I need as well as I hit the road still working full-time.
Yay! So glad to hear that. Those are all things we always search out. We understand the work-from-the-road life 🙂 Congrats on making the leap! We hope you love it as much as us! -Katelyn
I was thrilled with your number #1 , as that is the one on your list that I have camped at! Turquoise lake has a great little hike around the lake; Leadville is also my favorite town for authentic “old mining town” charm! It’s not very “touristy”. The Matchless Mine is a great little visit & the history around that mine is super interesting! The old Opera House is worth a look too! Especially if you sing! The acoustics are phenomenal! We couldn’t help but jump up on stage & sing ! We also hiked to the summit of Mosquito Pass , the air gets thin as you get above timberline, but the VIEWS are stoic!! We actually got caught in a snow squall up there & it was in June! Always wise to be prepared for changing weather & be mindful of lightening! The whole area has remnants of the silver mining era, very historic and neat. Summer is the best time to go; unless you like brutal cold & deep snow!
We couldn't agree more! Leadville is incredible (we DID return for winter camping this year, love the area) and worth a visit anytime. We look fondly on our summer in Colorado back in 2020 as some of the best camping we've ever experienced consecutively. 👍 -Howard
Past Ouray going towards Silverton there are a ton of free camping spots right off the highway. Great for big rigs too. Lots of toy haulers and easy access to the Alpine loop.
neat, very informative, beautiful country. only thing i could add is a day in the life episode. i just have this thing about folks cooking, hiking, setting up solar, and the best part, the views from your front yard at the time. thank you.
Ya know, it's not like we didn't already love you guys. But as I sit here in New England on a hot June day, carefully planning our next 8 month road trip; I watch your Colorado campsite vid for the 4th time. And with many spots in CO moving away from dispersed Camping, your selections are pure gold. If we see you two on the road, all the beer you can drink is on us. You bring pizza.
This was so much fun to watch and learn about all the camp cites. And it’s nice to know about where you can get cell cites and WiFi hook ups. And it is beautiful scenery.Thank you so much. See you next time. Stay safe.
Hi Diane! So glad you found our video helpful. Colorado is so beautiful! We've loved our time here. Hope you can check some of these out on your next visit! -Katelyn
Great video, been here in Colorado for 68 years, been camping, backpacking and skiing with my parents since I was literally in diapers. Prior to breaking camp they always made us kids walk the area picking up everyone else's trash, even cigarette butts. That's how I learned to leave it better than I found it. BTW- can't help but think your requirements might include Starlink and a cheap VOIP box. With work requirements it removes all your boundaries and allows for some interesting exploring. Take care.
Love your videos. Name suggestion you asked for...Nomad Nooks is my idea. Watching the video it’s like you successfully tuck into tons of nooks to boondock. Keep up the good work!
Hi Steven, thanks so much! We visited Silverthorne quite a bit while we were staying up in Vail Pass. Great area!! Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. -Katelyn

Great video. We're driving from NY to our home in Durango this week. No reservations. Going to wing it. We also have the same rig. Look forward to more. Thanks!
Hey Bruce! Woohoo, another 24D owner! Great taste.😉 Winging it is the way to do it, if you would have asked me that 2 years ago I would have said no way but it's so much more freeing! We haven't had a chance to get out to Durango yet but it looks beautiful! Safe travels! -Katelyn

Just came back from Leadville area after a week camping trip near Turquoise Lake! love it so much this was year #7 -- usually I'm there for 10 days but this year with the fire I headed out after 5. 2021 I plan to spend august and september in Colorado

It is really hot and humid here in FL, it was nice to virtually visit the cool mountain air of CO. Thanks for the app list, I had not heard of Ultimate Public Campgrounds.
What was the app you mentioned “ultimate free campsites” ? You said it was even available with no service which sounds great but I can’t seem to find it! Thank you! Happy travels!
Christian, the app is call Ultimate Public Campgrounds. It allows you to filter by price, and shows LOTS of free options run by all levels of public government. Highly recommend. Thanks for watching and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard

Always enjoy your videos, and also including whether bigger rigs should attempt driving into some of the areas. We're 33' Class A, and would probably do a drive thru of the campsites with the toad 1st, too. Don't know about 90 min. though! But totally relate. Keep up the good work and great content! 👍💯
Thanks so much! Definitely good to do a drive through. Haha, yeah 90 mins was a while but I also had time to kill while Howard was at the dump station 😂So glad you liked the video! -Katelyn
Did a MTB bike race in Leadville in this August and rode through Turquoise Lake and looked wonderful ! Along side the race route, there are a lot of BLM sites. I have to get class B+ RV !
Excellent video, thank you for the time and effort you clearly you put into these. We're about to take the Class B+/C leap, so a rather subjective question I guess, but regarding a towed vehicle, how important do you think is it for non full time RVers? Let's say, trips of 2 weeks or less?
Thanks so much, Matthew! Its a great question about tow vehicles, and honestly depends on your style of travel, speed you move, etc. We tend to setup in one spot for at least a few days to explore when we aren't working. Tow vehicles help us stay setup and still have the freedom to drive into town for supplies or check out the area. We tried not towing for the first 6 months, and found us renting cars all the time. Your results may certainly be different depending on your needs and style!
Again I’m surprised how that Winnebago you have gets into those spots. Now I’m really glad to see that since that’s the one we’re looking at because my wife refuses to let me get a 4wd Revel or something like the Revel 😂. Great camp spots for sure ✌🏼
It does great in some of those off the beaten path places. We just take it real slow and know our limits. Don't worry... even in this type of rig you'll be able to go to some epic places! 😉 -Katelyn

Hi Ross! Yes, we do. We used to tow a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport on a tow dolly then we bought at '97 Honda CR-V to flat tow. We found tha having a tow vehicle is best for our style of travel, but our rig is small enough, we could get around in that just fine too! -Katelyn
Hi you guys I'm Jennifer and I absolutely love Colorado want to live there but it's. A little too expensive for me so I'll stay home and just visit but I have a pleasure way camper and I went to red feathers lake Colorado. It's near Fort Collins check this place out. It's absolutely beautiful. There's like 18 different lakes and plenty of little trails that you can walk along the lakes. There's plenty of areas to live and it's small where there's maybe 2000 to 3000 people that live there and you wouldn't even. Know it they have a few grocery stores and some little mom and pop shops but it's very beautiful and the people there are very friendly it's just a. Lovely place I wouldn't mind even living there. It's affordable too but anyways. I wish I had a partner that could go with me. And do the exact same things that you can do. I love traveling and sooner or later hopefully. I will be living in Colorado and explore. Colorado I have been to red feathers lakes Fort callen's Estes Rocky Mountain national grand National Park Glenwood Springs Twin Lakes independent pass. Aspen Been to cottonwood cottonwood To Crestview area absolutely beautiful I've been to tell you ride. Silverton Durango Di a short 6 day horseback ride in Durango. That's what made me want to live out here. I've done some dude ranches. Very fun but I absolutely wish I could live in Colorado. Oh I'm sorry I also did Colorado Springs gardens of the gods Royal gorge. I can't even tell you how much I've did but I still have to explore more of Colorado. That's the fun part of it. I just love to explore these beautiful States and see how much is out there. I should just do it by myself and just go but I'm very loyal and. I do have a boyfriend of 5 years and it is very very expensive. I would blow my money that I have to live off of in 2 seconds. I think but I love it. It's my heart and you guys are so so blessed to be able to do all this and have your partner with you. I'm still waiting on that 50 years old. I got at least 2 or 3 more years so hopefully. We'll be able to go if not. I'm going but enjoy love you guys thanks for showing all your adventures. I dream and live through it and learn from it and hope to be in it and maybe hope to meet you guys someday I'll be awesome. All right guys be safe have fun and keep posting keep traveling love you guys. Colorado take me home.
Hi Donna, thanks so much for watching. We did mention the connectivity (Cellular service) for each location, and each has service with at least one of the 4 carriers we have onboard (typically Verizon, but also Tmobile, US Cellular and Sprint). Working from the road ourselves, connectivity is very important! -Howard
@@NewstateNomads Hi, that was my bad for watching only part of the video and then the rest. Sorry about that! Also, it was such a great video and great info. Thanks much!

Hi you replied to me about Monument Colorado and having a place near here and I clicked on it and then it slipped away from it and I can't find your response. I can't even find my post on here
@@NewstateNomads no I figured out it wasn't you sorry. I had the dirt before I couldn't figure out this crazy thing cuz I know there's a lot more BLM land and they show and then I got a thing on I thought TH-cam saying that there was one found near Monument which is where I live right now but I go on there and it keeps on showing one and I don't know where to go to retrieve it I don't know I just have to figure it out. I just hate being frustrated by apps. I normally use compendium
@@weekendlovinggypsy1737 sorry to hear that! Yeah, we use Campendium a lot (it's usually our first stop). Someone recently mentioned there's a premium map on Dyrt that just shows BLM lands (I think colored to indicate) but we haven't tried it yet to see. -Howard
@@NewstateNomads well I'm on disability so anything that even is a couple dollars a month would put me close to breaking. That's why I'm trying to figure out what to do with my house so I don't get penalized cuz if I sell it it's income if I rent it it's income and I can't just let it sit here because I would need the money to travel. So I don't know oh, that's why I kind of stay in the New Mexico Arizona Wyoming South Dakota Colorado area.
Hi Patricia! We always scout out the spots with the car first and we've learned what our rig can handle and we don't push it too much! The build quality is excellent and can handle a lot!
You guys are so good now at making VLOGs its hard to make humorous comments......can't Howard step in some bear poop on a hike.....get chased by a mountain lion......have a black water tank mishap......sit on his 9th pair of sunglasses......have a shaving accident.......get arrested because he set up camp on private property but thought it was BLM land.....get mistaken as Ted Bundy???
Your not alone anywhere in colorado....john denver is rolling around in his grave....theres nyc style traffic jams in the mountains ......people camping behind every tree
Tom, it's definitely VERY popular to camp in Colorado, as you mentioned. Thankfully, many spots have large capacities (like several we showed in this video). Safe travels! 👍-Howard

Which of these areas has good WIFI?
Hi Donna, thanks so much for watching. We did mention the connectivity (Cellular service) for each location, and each has service with at least one of the 4 carriers we have onboard (typically Verizon, but also Tmobile, US Cellular and Sprint). Working from the road ourselves, connectivity is very important! -Howard
@@NewstateNomads Hi, that was my bad for watching only part of the video and then the rest. Sorry about that! Also, it was such a great video and great info. Thanks much!
I am researching traveling part time, then full-time since I now telework for the foreseeable future. I have done a couple of trips to Florida from Missouri. My next trip is to Colorado and then on to Yellowstone. Your videos are interesting and fun to watch!
couldnt find any of your links :(
Hi there, thanks so much for watching! There's a link in the "resources" section of the description to our blog post for this video with all the resources, apps, links, etc. Way too many to try and put in the description for the video! -Howard
Go to texass. They love outta state campers. Everything is better and bigger. Texass is where it's at.
We spent two months camping in Texas back in 2018, Charles! Loved our time there as well, probably about time to go back!
Remember trappers are trapping coyotes on these lands keep a close eye on your dogs. Learn how to release a trap and snare.
We always keep our dogs on a leash but that's a great point about the traps! Will definitely look into how to release them. Thanks for watching! -Howard
I really wish you showed coordinates and the places look great. Let me know if you ever do and I will gladly subscribe. Thanks!
Hi Kathleen! GPS coordinates for every site are listed in the video description 🙂 thanks so much for watching!
@@NewstateNomads one other question about your Mexico travels. Since US based insurance does not cover vehicles outside of the US except Canada, how did you manage this for Mexico and their requirements?
@@kathleneavila9607 hello again! All of this is spelled out thoroughly in our RVing in Mexico guide, which includes not only insurance info, but also paperwork, route, camping info, connectivity and more. 👍

Hi you replied to me about Monument Colorado and having a place near here and I clicked on it and then it slipped away from it and I can't find your response. I can't even find my post on here
Hi there, I don't think it was us replying about Monument Colorado. Were you trying to find a place for camping in that area? -Howard
Are you afraid to break your Rv on the bad roads???
Hi Patricia! We always scout out the spots with the car first and we've learned what our rig can handle and we don't push it too much! The build quality is excellent and can handle a lot!
You guys are so good now at making VLOGs its hard to make humorous comments......can't Howard step in some bear poop on a hike.....get chased by a mountain lion......have a black water tank mishap......sit on his 9th pair of sunglasses......have a shaving accident.......get arrested because he set up camp on private property but thought it was BLM land.....get mistaken as Ted Bundy???
Hahahah the Ted Bundy comment did me in 🤣🤣🤣 we'll try to have a few more mishaps for ya 😆😉
Your mentioning that the stay at BLM land is 14 days or less. That must be a Colorado thing, we have long term camping options in California.
👍-Howard
Selfish, trashy campers ruin the experience for the rest of us!
Feed that girl. She looks like a walking skeleton
Nice masks .....
You’re not camping if you need cell service.
Hey Chris! There's all different kinds of camping, we certainly would love to be off grid! But since we work full time while traveling, it's just not possible. This kind of camping works for us! 😊 Thanks for watching!
You & your positivity is awesome! Camping is any way you want and need or wish it to be! Just make camping happen! You rock, guys! D & J
@@debbier2626 thanks so much! ❤️ There's all kinds of camping, and all kinds of people who enjoy camping. Mix and match for the style you like!
