I used to listen to the Friday and Saturday night Opry on WSM as it was 50,000 watt clear channel and came in up in Pennsylvania well. Fender had a commercial as they were a big sponsor and it went like this (singing) What kind of guitar does a picky picker pick, one he knows he can depend upon. What kind of guitar does a picky picker pick, a picky guitar picker picks a Fender! Over 45 years ago and still remember it well!
These guys had so much fun in their prime. Jackie shredding on the electric, Roy playing with his Yoyo the whole song... These guys got paid to be big kids!
Grandma Trula and Mr. Acuff used to "set together"...(and that's how they pronounced it!) at Butcher's Store in their hometown of Maynardville, Tn. She claimed they "always had a helluva good time." Both are greatly missed.
Roy Acuff died in 1992. The Grand Ole Opry still doesn't seem right without him.
Thanks for this classic. Always resonates.
Roy owned this song.

And Ernest Tubb, Grandpa Jones, and Porter. Luckily, for now, we still have folks like Jimmy Dickens, Bill Anderson, etc.
