    Just bought a new Model Y for $13,000 less than you paid and $7,500 tax credit. Enhanced autopilot (+$6,000) includes LANE CHANGE, AUTOPARK and SUMMON. Tesla Rocks.

  • @polioe.4557
    @polioe.4557 ปีที่แล้ว +161

    You don’t have to exit autopilot to change lanes, just semi hit your turn signal and it’ll automatically exit out of autopilot and will keep you speed like cruise control speed on what you’ve set it for…I love it

    • @jeffpicken5057
      @jeffpicken5057 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe you’re talking about TACC and not for autopilot. TACC, or traffic aware of cruise control, will maintain your speed. Autopilot will keep you in your lane.

    • @jonathanblackwell42
      @jonathanblackwell42 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      He's right, if you signal with autopilot on it will let you change lanes without fighting you and switch to TACC. Then you pop autopilot back on.

    • @nateums
      @nateums ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have autopilot or enhanced autopilot

    • @polioe.4557
      @polioe.4557 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffpicken5057 I suppose so, but the auto steer will disable and will maintain you speed, but you’ll have to manually get to the next lane…then double click your drive and the auto steer will pick up once you’ve gotten into the lane…this is in my basic autopilot standard connectivity, also give it one second to disengage the auto steer…otherwise you’ll feel that little resistance that it gives if you don’t

    • @MarkShaw1
      @MarkShaw1 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's right, and you don't need to stop indicating manually. As soon as you reingage autopilot it automatically stops indicating

  • @SGliderGuy

    One trick that I use for changing lanes on the freeway is to fully engage the turn signal. This will make the car drop out of autopilot very easy when you turn the wheel. Then when you are near the center of the new lane, simply re-engage autopilot. That will also turn off the turn signal for you

    • @polioe.4557
      @polioe.4557 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I’ve found is that you don’t have to fully engage the turn signal, there is two stages to your signal (or two clicks) the first stage (or on click) is a temporary turn on and will turn off after three blinks or if you hold it, it will stay on until you release it…the other stage (or two clicks) the signal will stay on until you click upwards on the same handle but both will maintain your speed but will kick you out of auto steer, then like you said to double click the autopilot to go back into it, I use the single click because I will forget my signal is still on😏

    Definitely agree with the test drive recommendation. We did several through Tesla and also took the extra step of renting a Model Y for a day via Turo. If you're new to EVs and Tesla, taking the time to drive one and get used to the differences is highly recommended.

    I have had my Model 3 white interior since Sept 2018. I wipe of any visible dirt at the end of a trip and it still looks like new. I modified the frunk and trunk to open by themselves thanks to more powerful struts and the frunk closing was ameliorated by replacing the original spring with one requiring less pressure but still adequate for car safety. It's now possible to close it with one hand over the "Tesla" symbol.

  • @stano49

    Agree with most of your issues except auto-brights. In my suburban/rural driving they work perfectly.
    I have an additional issue (complaint)…when switching between driver profiles the audio system does not return back to the source of the newer driver profile. It’s kind of annoying to lose my Tidal playlist after my wife drives the car. I know, it’s a minor issue, but hey, it should be an easy fix.
    Looking forward to the comfort suspension review.

    I've had two Model Y's so far: 2021 and 2022. On both, the phantom braking made autopilot unusable on road trips. It also seems to drain battery faster. I will admit that if there have been fixes since July, I would be unaware because I haven't used it.

    Ryan, thanks for another great video. I have been enjoying my 2022 Model Y LR which I took delivery in late May. I find the suspension acceptable although I've had a rattle in the back from the beginning. I tried to ignore it but now it's getting worse. I have a service appointment. Without the rattle this car is perfect IMO. Thanks.

    Ryan, Nice review. I like the new parcel shelf, which I don’t have in my early 2022 Model Y. The HEPA filter is always in use, cleaning the air coming into the cabin all of the time. The “bio weapon defense mode” just cranks the fan to high to pressurize the interior with clean air. That prevents outside air from leaking into the cabin. Useful if the outside air is not safe to breathe (due to bioweapons or nerve gas for example), or maybe just smells bad. At least that is how I think it works, if anyone has evidence otherwise, please let me know.

      As a tow truck driver who works overnight. I get hit with high beams everyday from teslas plus other cars too. I always have to slow down and sometimes put my hazards on and veer away from all vehicles if possible. Definitely puts me in harms way and creates anxiety especially in rainy/snowy weather.

    I’ve spent the last 2 days in a model 3 performance. Loved autopilot, one pedal driving and just setting the speed and using adaptive cruise control. Waiting for my new model y that’s on its way. Very excited. Oh and being a serious petrol head I thought I would like it , but have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

    Ryan, thank you for a great summary on the Y. I just took delivery on a 2023 Y and it does not have the ultrasound sensors. I came from a 2018 Model 3 so I was very used to having the extra features, especially parking assist, which came in handy as I have a very tight garage with only a few inches to spare. I also don't see a cargo cover but maybe I'm missing something. Overall, I'm really enjoying the extra space, better ride, and other subtle improvements but I'm very disappointed that Tesla didn't wait to remove the sensors until the software was in place to provide that functionality via cameras. I was hopeful that we would get rear cross traffic alert one of these days but now I'd be grateful to get back what we had, let alone some new enhancements. Thanks again for another informative video.

    I had an ‘18 Model 3 with white interior. Held up for four years with three kids with zero stains.
    Only issue I found was the cushion next to your left thigh started to wear from the plastic along the side of the seat. That started pretty early on and Tesla told me, “That’s regular wear and tear.”
    Otherwise, always easy to clean.
    Now I’m in a ‘22 Model Y Performance in black interior. Seems harder to keep clean. Lol.

    Good Summary. I took delivery of my Austin built Model Y in late August so I think I just missed the comfort suspension also but the ride seems pretty good. Overall I am very happy with the Texas build quality and with the car in general. My only complaint is Phantom Braking - I took my 1st cross-country trip of 600 miles and had 8 severe braking episodes and another handful of slow-downs… sunny day, very minimal traffic….Fortunately, no one was behind me! This must get fixed = Scary! Thanks again for your videos!

    We picked up our 2023 Model Y on Nov. 5 and are loving it. I first couldn't get my charge time to switch from departure to scheduled but soon figured it out. The issue was the phone app was set to departure and it kept me from changing it in the car. As soon as I set it in the app, all was good to go. The front passenger window had a pretty noticeable bump when lowering it so I reported it during our first 100 miles Mobile tech came out and found the wire going to the outside handle was out of place and moved it to the correct location so no more problem there. There are no sonic sensors but haven't noticed any issues in my use so far. I have noticed a slight rattle coming from the back at low speeds while going over bumps but nothing at speed. I've checked everything I keep in the back and everything is wrapped in towels so nothing to rattle. Sounds like a latch not staying tight but not sure where that could be. I did order the tow package but haven't removed the cover to see if anything under there could be rattling. Since it only happens at low speed over bumps, I'm learning to live with it but hopefully, it's nothing to worry about.

    To change lanes efficiently in basic AP is 1. Turn on blinkers 2. Change lanes manually (resistance is very light to break AP) 3. Once centered in new lane, hit stock twice to re-engage AP (this will turn off blinkers for you)

    Pressing the right button on the steering wheel is my favorite way to navigate some place. Or say, "tire pressure", to keep up on what pressure you have to maximize your tread wear. Or say, "70 degrees" to change your temperature. You can do a ton without having to remove your hands from the wheel by just pressing the right button voice commands.

    Autopilot Tip: I believe that if you are in autopilot with autosteer and signal a lane change with a long signal, it will allow you to steer to the other lane without disconnecting autopilot. This was really annoying to me disconnecting all the time until I discovered this. Give it a try and see if it works.

    Nice review Upper, job well done. I took receipt of my 2022 Model 3 LR back in June after a 3 month 2 week wait and I like it a lot. The suspension is a little stiff but I knew that going in. I didn’t need the Y since my three sons are out the house and it’s just me, my First Lady and my American Bulldog Brutus. I was planning to go from my 2018 3 to a new Y. The extra space it provides would be nice, but some things made me change my mind about switching:
    1.) Loss of radar and ultrasonic sensors;
    Phantom braking events are higher on all vision cars.
    2.) Loss of smart summon, auto park, navigate on AP (came with my 3)
    3.) Loss of lifetime unlimited connectivity (came with my 3)
    4.) No new fed tax credit (yet)
    5.) Noisy autogenerated sounds at slow speeds (2018 3 is completely silent)
    6.) Tax, license, and registration fees again
    7.) Low trade in value of my current car
    8.) Loss of lumbar support
    9.) Less acceleration compared to the 3
    10.) More road noise due to not having a separate trunk

    Can you do a vide specifically about setting up your Y for Turo and how you handle pickups/dropoffs/ driver mode adjustment etc? We just got our Y and want to start putting it on Turo but are not fully familiar with Teslas yet. I imagine you can make a driver profile just for the renter and have the car basically "reset" back to you one it's back at home....and maybe let the renter use their phone during just the time they have the vehicle, stuff like that.

  • @JoieVientLeMatin

    I got my Freemont made Model YLR in March '22, and loving it. But I have just the base-line auto pilot, and I agree that the fact that it exits auto mode every time I do a lane change is very annoying. However, I like the auto wipers and auto high beams. The lights always come on in low beam mode and whenever there is dark road ahead without on-coming traffic, they switch auto to high beam. And the same for the reverse switching back to low beam. For me, it seems to be pretty much perfect. There are a few times when I wnt them on high when the auto control keep them low because of some bright street lights - even though it's darker up ahead. But the mannual override takes care of those occasions fine.
    As for phantom braking: I don't know if this is a terminology difference, but I have had no occasions of actual phantom braking - as if the car wants to stop. But there is a section of highway that I use regularly where the speed limit is 80 kph, I'm rolling along happily with the traffic at 95 kph, when suddenly the speed control setting adjusts down to 40 kph. This does cause the car to want to switch quickly to the lower level. Is that the phantom braking everyone talks about? It is always at the same spot so I'm prepared for it now. I apply the accelerator to maintain my speed and in a few seconds, the speed setting reverses to the original set point.
    The spot where this occurs is on a stretch of elevated highway overpassing several streets below. It has got me thinking: I wonder if what is happening is that there is a momentary confusion over which speed limit applies to my situation and the control for some reason switches to the speed limit on the street that is passing under the highway.
