be sure to check out the tip on filing your edge strip correctly too.
This is an easy job that you can DIY, with only a couple of tools you are likely to have at home, save yourself the money paying a contractor, follow the steps in this video and get it done yourself.
Whether its a new bench top, installation of a recycled countertop, or just a repair, you can use this technique anytime you have an issue with your laminate edge strips on your bench top.

Flat bastard file; 'Bastard' is a way off determining how coarse the file is, it's somewhere between 'most coarse' and '2nd cut' but still leaves quite a smooth finish.

I use an iron and a bit of white paper to heat the laminate. Same result if you don't have a heat gun great video tip if you run out or are short of edging.

@@InspireDIY Thanks for the tip it worked a treat. I just did the first step, removing the laminate. Instead of a heat gun used my iron on the hot setting with no steam and put a cotton cloth between the laminate and iron. Also used a wide flat plastic scrapper (for applying plaster) as I couldn't find our metal one. because it was so wide I was able to rock it side to side using palm pressure either side which kept the laminate fairly flat.

Where would I buy an off cut of laminate like yours? I'm based in NZ

Hey Katie, if you have no luck finding iron-on laminate strips that match from mitre10 for eg. Try online, local kitchen bench manufacturers/contractors or even a building demo yard for something similar. Good luck 🤞 Kent
