- Hi guys!! Surprise!! We got a bernese mountain dog puppy! I vlogged us going a picking him up and bringing him home and then his first few days at home!! Also some supplies and toys we bought for him in a puppy haul!

Just an FYI: berners can have a very strong prey instinct and will kill animals. They can be very protective of the fence line because they're working dogs. They need to be socialised as soon as possible, but not to overwhelm them. They tend to eat poop. They're extremely stubborn and don't like to listen. They have A LOT of energy! They are extremely good with kids, are cuddle bugs, will follow you everywhere and love attention.

Cup Of Jordy you're welcome. However, you got your berner from a reputable breeder, you most likely won't have too much of an issue.
Bernese mountain dog are farm dogs, they should not have a problem with other animals because they are supposed to protect them on a farm. If a Berner is doing any of these I would be concerned
Cup Of Jordy do you know what bloat is? Don’t exercise your Berner a hour before or after he eats
the amount of poop my berner eats is so bad, we have to watch him when he goes out

If you’re taking them on walks every hour (or less), then this isn’t actually good. Bernese grow to be huge dogs and if you overwork them too much then they’ll have ankle problems when they’re older.
10:33 Felix was only 8-9 weeks into quarantine and he is already exhausted lol 😂 What a sweet boy. Love Berners

Awww Felix is so cute! He reminds me of my Bernese mountain dog when she was that young!
Just some tips,
1 (you probably knew this) Felix will shed a ton
2 they love the cold
3 they get really really heavy and big
For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕
I hope you're all happy now. No doubt you've learned that you don't need just a brush for a Berner; a small vacuum will also work. Their discarded hair makes great sweaters. They need close attention on really hot days, since they were created for the Swiss Alps. They are the sweetest, cuddliest, most loving dogs in the world and I want another one! Sorry I got a little hysterical there. The only problem I had with a Berner is that he was too big to carry into the vet's office.

potty training is very easy with this tip.. so I got a Australian Shepard puppy 2 months ago, they are very similar to a Bernese. One thing to do is buy soa door bell to hang on the handle and every time u bring him out to pee ring it and soon he will start doing it on his own to let you know he needs to go potty, u cab find these on amazon or pet stores. also don’t let him bite yo fingers because he should not learn how to do that so every time he does that say no and give him a toy to chew on instead!

I love that you did your research and went to a reputable breeder!!! I always say adopt or "shop" responsibly. Whether you are going to rescue or go to a breeder, do it ethically and responsibly. He is too cute! Bernese Mountain Dogs may now be on my list of breeds I want some day haha

I 100% agree!! If your breeder is a reputable good breeder it’s totally safe! Also adopting a dog is honestly amazing as well! I have both I have a pitbull rescue and I also have an Aussie from a really good reputable breeder!! Both are great. I also foster so I support both depending on the breeder. ❤
I just lost my berner a few days ago, she was 10 so I got more years than most but gosh I miss her. Enjoy everything the good and the struggles. The years go by so quickly it feels like yesterday I picked up my little girl. Some things I wish I knew earlier was get them used to being brushed and getting their nails clipped as early as you can:) They'll blow their coat twice a year and the groomers will be able to get their undercoat out better than you can(also make sure to tip your groomers)! Also antlers are a great option instead of raw hides:) Felix is so cute and looks like hes going to an amazing family, thanks for sharing this its brought a smile to my face for the first time in days

Hey! I’ve got a 9 yr old Berner and seeing your pup got me so excited! I just wanted to advise you that berners are notorious for developing such a strong bond with their owners that it can result in separation anxiety. Help him to learn to be comfortable on his own to prevent this! Make sure he has time to himself either in a crate or on a place bed. He needs to learn that he is safe and sound on his own🤗 enjoy your pup!

@@maddiewarren1893 Aw, I have a Pitbull/American Bulldog mix. He is so sweet. He likes to sit in my Papaws lap even though he's too big. But they are one of the best dogs you could have.

Adorable! I wish you many years with your new baby. We have our 2nd Berner, 10 mos now, named Rollo. Always secure your baby in the car when traveling. We are in our seatbelts, but guess what happens in a collision to our pups, front (with airbag) or back. They make secure harnesses for them to clip in safely, God forbid. Bernese are very special dogs. Enjoy every minute, go lots of places together and take lots and lots of photos. They wrap around your heart like no other!

In lockdown I’m also watching videos about decluttering then I start this and it’s all about stuff to buy! Seriously neither dogs nor humans need so much stuff destined for landfill. We also got a puppy this year- he’s just as happy with an old sock rolled up as a fancy toy.

I would recommend getting the furminator brush because that one gets their like undercoat and like dead hair or loose hair that should come off, and it works rlly well!

If he pees or poops make sure to give him a treat like while he is using the bathroom. And take him out at designated times until he is used to going out, then maybe you can just let him out freely.
about potty time it helps to make it really fun for him, make it one of the most fun things to do with him so that he will want to go potty outside and when he does u can even throw in some treats sometimes. hope this helps

Awww congratulations! I’ve got a 7yr old red heeler (we’re Australian). We’ve been working super hard on his aggression (he was fear reactive towards dogs), now we’ve gotten the all good to get a puppy so we’re getting a blue heeler, she’s 5 weeks old at the moment and we get to pick her up in a month! Her name will be Nova!

I’m really glad you did research a lot of people don’t and they just want the puppy- that’s it and rawhide isn’t good for them because it’s hard for them to digest I believe (someone let me know if I’m wrong but that’s my understanding of one of the reasons it’s bad for them)
First thing in the morning obviously lol , and he should be fed at specific times and 20 mins after they eat anything, then hopefully you walk him twice a day as well as bedtime. He will get used to it and start to let ya know if it isnt a regular trip out. He is so adorable.
