UPDATE: Nilaus has a new version of this design with blueprints: "Jump Start HUB with Simple BLUEPRINTS | Dyson Sphere Program Master Class" th-cam.com/video/EtyCfpsSXko/w-d-xo.html
if you watch his videos you will quickly realize the intense tunnel vision sets in, mostly in puzzle games. "it's right in front of you", hehe. i love it.
Hey Nil, this series your end game goal should be max size Dyson sphere in a system with at least two planets one planet whole surface as rocket launchers and the second planet, the whole planet as rail gun launchers.
You helped me master Factorio a year back. You gave me just enough information for me to take off my training wheels and get everything I needed going the way I like to build. This is another one of those great games that you start off playing at 9AM in the morning and before you know it, the wife has filed for a divorce. But that doesn't matter as you have a few more belt systems to set up on another bus. There are planets to harvest and she was never this fun anyway!
I am definitely not the only one who just explore the cluster for the view of a sunset with a different type of sun on a different type of planet , I am not the only one who just sit and look my Dyson shell grabbing solar sail in a slow and gorgeous motion, I am not the only one who love to go really far away to see the ship warping and creating string between the star. This game deserves an award for his graphics
Some tips that you miiiiiiight want to include in the new tutorial, since I don't have time for twitch: When you press 'Tab' the game will put a space every 3 furnaces automatically so you don't have to keep doing them 3 at a time. You can click-drag wind turbines! For my own pattern I usually space them wide enough that the land on every major grid-line (10 squares apart, Tab 3 times IIRC) so they're nice and evenly spaced, but it's suuuuuuuuper easy to just plop down 100 wind turbines and never care about setting up thermal power plants. If you press 'Shift' while setting down an elevated belt, it'll stop trying to connect to lower belts. Elevated belts don't need to be 3 wide to bridge over one another. You can create the "ramp," remove a couple belts, put a new belt on the ground, and connect your shorter bridge to the ground have a cleaner looking bridge at a cost of more effort to make it.
I came to find your channel due to this game back in February, and watched your old DSP LP in full... then when that finished, I started watching your old Factorio content, and that made me buy the game too! I started playing it in March and I'm at 600hs played already D: Factorio's end game and trying my hand at megabasing spoiled me so much that I don't seem to be able to come back to playing DSP again :`( But I hope that changes in the future! So thank you for making those old let's plays and keeping up with it! I wish I'd be able to support via patron, sadly, I live in a country with very very bad currency exchange rate to be able to support content creators :( Best wishes and stay safe!
I don't put the gears on the bus. When I need them, I put an assembler besides it and let it pull in iron to make gears. That way I can make the bus have more different starting items (like glass). I do it for the plasma exciters also.
I have iron plates, coils and chips on 1 side, bricks glass and gears on the other. put power pole and short belt between assembelers use bridge to cross to the chests. lets me add all the stuff that uses glass (matrix lab, storage tank, prism>plasma exciter>2nd power tower etc.)
I intentionally played past this stage before watching Nilaus's startup since I knew his elegance would make me feel like an idiot. I was not disappointed :)
In this opening I can just hear you smiling. I've been noticing this a few times now in video's around the last month. It appears you are enjoying this more then ever, which is a great thing to see. Cheers!
Really thankful for this video. I was a little turned off when I first got Dyson Sphere Program. The controls just felt weird to me, the English translation was weird, and I just couldn't get into it so I stopped playing for months. But after a couple of these videos, it really gave me the spark I needed to get playing properly, and now I've got hundreds of hours. Absolutely great game, thanks for the video!
It’s very nice to see you and your fans really enjoying this gameplay. Dyson sphere program is incredibly fun and getting to watch a really experienced player like yourself is the best. Thanks for coming back to the game can’t wait for the other major updates and eventually your series on mega production bases!

Thank you so much for these and I will be following along with every episode of this, and then again the the Dark Fog series.
Great stuff man!! Just got this game 2 days ago, and I've been binge watching your older videos from 6 months ago. Spent some time today and was able to build your starter Hub and Blue Science factory. This video was so helpful, and I've really been enjoying the game and your content to go with it. Looking forward to the next episodes!!!
Hey Nilaus! I was having trouble making the transition from Factorio to DSP. This base design was exactly what I needed to get going! As someone with only modest skill in either game, it really helped re-shape how I conceptualize design and tackle problems on a theoretical level. Building this base and watching/learning how it works has really helped me! You may want to mention the potential problems with alignment when building across the more polar latitudes. I was able to adapt, but I never noticed the off center grid until I was more than half done building lol.
Hey Nilaus, could you please next time you're showing us your layout at the end of a base set up enter construction mode so that we can see the grid lines? That way we know where to place that on the planet :) Thanks !
I am late to the party. I had DSP in my steam library for a few years and gave up after about 10 hours. I just came across your channel and wow, I have started playing DSP again and it makes so much more sense now. This video should be bundled with the game as a starting tutorial on getting your first true factory off the ground. Thanks for making all this content. I have subbed to your channel and intend on watching all the content you have created for DSP. Keep up the good work mate, these videos are amazing, easy to follow and to the point.
Watched and played along with the factorio series. Diverted when I had to and copied when I had to. It was excellent. Look forward to the same with this series! Thanks Nilaus!

I think the one "iron plate" smelter in copper line was placed to trigger us.
Well played
also the magnet smelter with the inserter facing the wrong way.
Wow, freshest content I've ever seen. Great to have you back to playing Dyson Sphere! Yay for polar hubs and fully gridded planets!
I intentionally played past this stage before watching Nilaus's startup since I knew his elegance would make me feel like an idiot. I was not disappointed :)
Adding sorters to a build brings a whole new level of accuracy to the phrase “get this sorted”…
And building a stack of research labs without the means to supply them is _wrong on so many levels_ ;)
And I'm glad he noticed the iron smelter in the end and got that kink . . . _ironed out._
