  • A completely unnecessary test to find out if a Tesla is capable to charging off of an Ego Nexus Power Station. This video also dives into some of the math and numbers surrounding this thought as well as the results.

I like how this doesn’t need a hack plug to work. Other power stations needed a hack plug attached to one of the other outlets in order for the car to think it is connected to ground.

Andrew, just found your videos. I have many Ego garden tools and 7 batteries. So I got the small plug-in inverters for charging cell phones if we loose grid power. The few times I needed them for that it was a good thing to have. So wanted to get more use out of the rest of the EGO batteries and went with the power station. I totally agree with your video on that topic. My expectations are low and this unit fills that. I have on 12ah ego battery and will add one every now and then till I have 4 12ah batteries to get the most run time out of Nexest. Hot swapping during a power outage will give a bit more time with my extra batteries.
I had just started to consider it on a backup to the Tesla. Your video answered that and Yes was good enough. So if I had a 1/2 gal gas can for my truck I can see that gas is a better backup for emergencies, but that's not my plan so again I am good.
Clearly a gas gen backup would be a better solution, but having the electric generator should be fine in if we loose power at home it would most likely be for an hour and these batteries will make life more normal during that event. Not a real solution if outage lasts longer, but we have other resources if that happens.
You do such a good job making videos I am surprised you have not made more. Clearly you have much you can share I would just want to encourage you to not give up yet. Your channel has been getting action that should help your new videos to get better exposure.
Good luck and thanks for helping me with understanding my new Ego Nexest. Just 3 more 12ah's to go for me. ;)

in a worst case scenario you could get the car from dead to a nearest gas station/ charging station - which is a truly useful factoid

Hi Andy.... I noticed your awesome M3 was high on charge (199mi) when you started this entertaining test & not real potential use case scenario (10-20 miles battery left & I need few miles to make it to a level 1-2 or 3 ASAP) for unique emergency 'juice-up' situations.
So....if possible please create a low battery situation safely for you & her. I believe you will get better results from your exact setup & we will be better informed real life/ entertainment. Thank you....great job on your video. We love the E-go here & taking it to Liberia was a blessing for my sister huge yard. Hope to hear back soon...don't have to be a video on this, update via reply will do. Great day!

Seems to me the better question would be, is the Tesla capable for charging the Ego Power Station? For example, using the 12V Outputs with a cheap inverter, maybe in Camp Mode on Tesla, can the car be used to recharge the Power Station repeatedly during an extended power outage. I understand the Power Station can't be charged and discharged at the same time, so that's not the question I am asking. Only if there is a way to tap into the huge battery bank that is a Tesla auto, and use it to run the house for a few days. Thanks.

Nice review. Awaiting the Solar charger for the Ego Nexus. Said to be 100 or 200 watts available next year. Nexus is very handy for half day power outages due to squirrels, etc.

Wow very interesting test thank you. I'm not surprised that it would take around 16 full charge cycles to charge a tesla. That's pretty cool its capable of charging it at all.

Andrew thank you for making this video. I was looking at getting this or a ecoflow I just need about an hour of charge time for the Ego Z6. Think I would be better off getting this since I already have so many batteries.

Its an awesome addition if you have a lot of batteries, just like your situation. However I wouldn't pick it if your starting fresh without any batteries already on hand

Thank you for the video and that it worked I was considering getting one of these to charge my EV. I have a Smart fortwo electric car so its power requirements are a lot smaller than a Tesla. Usually for one hour of level 2 j1772 charging it uses 3.5kwh and gives me 12 miles it would seem this would not only work but give me one hour per charge and 6 miles maybe doesnt sound like much but I dont drive it daily just maybe one or two days a week and for only an hour or two locally as i am disabled. So if i charged up 4 7.5ah ego batteries and then charged the car lion battery for an hour (or less) each day then i could add enough miles for when i do go out. Of course the cost isnt justifed i can get charges locally for little or even free but i have to either sit in the car for an hour usually. This way i can just do it at home. I live on the top floor of an apt in los angeles so no chargers or plugs available at home. I also like that for under $1000 you can get the main unit and two 7.5 batteries to get started then add more later each month and maybe just leave the charger in the back of the car and just take the batteries up and down the elevator and charge them upstairs. sounds silly but a little bit each day would add up in my case. Also this can be used in power emergencies at home which i had once after a big earthquake years ago.

Still useful if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. TFL tried to do it with a generator and it didn't work. I think you need a pure sine wave too.

Thanks for this experiment, I was wondering how Ego batteries would do as a portable generator for Teslas, now I know for sure, it's not a good option.

one thing to remember is inverters are not 100% efficient so there will be some additional losses

Very similar to what I got under the same circumstances. I bought the unit as a back up for my sump pump and was disappointed to learn that when it is plugged in it doesn't allow the 110 plugs to work and when the unit is unplugged you have to manually press the on button and 110 button. ie can't be done remotely. I also regularly lose connection with the unit so couldn't trust it to run it while on vacation. When fully charged and unplugged from the wall but plugged into my secondary sump pump that wasn't running it still runs out of power in less than 2 days. hmmmm
We have MX, M3 and ego lawn mower, trimmer and blower. Very happy with other ego products but I think this was an expensive mistake. I paid $1700 Canadian for mine with 4 x 5 amp batteries.

thanks for this video .. I have the new two batteries lawn mower and love the ego so far. I was thinking of the power station .. I wish they offer the same 4 batteries station with only two batteries so I can save by using the two I already have with the lawn mower.
Again thanks ... very helpful video>

I've used my 3 EGO's, TWICE a day, to depletion... for the last 2 1/2 years. No problems. But...no solar charge capability for the Nexus Power Station?

might work better with an initial lower charge on the car, when it is down in the 20 to 30-mile range,

Can you swap batteries as you charge?

    • @HexedInOhio
      @HexedInOhio  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, however if the remaining batteries are too weak, removing the 4th can potentially mean it will go into shutdown mode as there may not be enough power left to keep running during the swap

really? Just get a really good propane Generator that's clean power and over 2000 watts.
That thing only olds 1600 watts of power. So you'll get about 1400 watts and that might get you maybe 5 miles down the road in the tesla

Would be nice to have such a product but currently I’m so poor I would have to sell my kidneys and I need those to live would be really nice for when the power goes out especially if the washer or dryer was in the middle of a cycle keep the fridge cold
