The hardest part tho is when you change your barber, the previous barber knew what you want before you tell him, the new barber you have to get bad haircuts to get good ones.

Exactly, I rarely change barbers. I stick to one barber only since he knows how I want my haircut done as I tell him
Lol it’s the worst…you know for a fact the first 3-5 haircuts will suck but he’ll eventually get it right
Even worse if your previous barber was giving bad haircuts to begin with (hence the move)...
What's worked best for me,, is I ALWAYS SHOW A PHOTO and I make sure to tell them what I DON'T and DO want. Example: If I'm showing a blunt cut bob. I point out that I DON'T want any layers and I DO want the underneath in the back to be cut slightly shorter. NO thinning shears. I talk throughout the cut to make sure they understand because I can point all these things out in the beginning and they usually forget OR they do what THEY think would look better. At the end of the day, YOU ultimately want to be happy and feel confident in what YOU want. That's not to say to hear and take in consideration of their suggestions, but if you know, you know...
whenever i get a new haircut i always show my barber a few different pictures of what i think would look good on me and then ask them for their opinion. for example as someone with thin hair some haircuts simply won't work, and your barber's honest advice usually points that out

I went to this one stylist and I told her I wanted a small trim with some layers along with trimming my bangs. My bangs grew out a lot so it was hard to see what I had so I showed her a picture of side swept bangs, told her diagonal and side swept bangs and I even told her I want my bangs like hers because she had side swept bangs. While she was doing my bangs I couldn't see what she was doing because she was standing in front of me but when she was halfway done she stepped to the side and I saw that she was cutting them straight. I stopped her and I said "I said side swept bangs.." and then she said "Well why didn't you say anything??" I wasn't speaking quietly and she responded to me like she heard me when I was telling her what I wanted but she really messed up my hair and I haven't been to a stylist since 😅 I've been watching many many videos and doing my own hair from those videos

I had a terrible haircut in middle school and here I am nearly 10 years later still dreading haircuts. Finally actually going to a proper stylist and getting some questions answered.

When I want a totally new style, I search Instagram first for the haircut I want, and then narrow my search to people doing that cut to the city I’m in. Then I book with that stylist and show the stylist their own Instagram pics that I am inspired by and want.

I just need to find a competent barber because I’ve gone to many barbers and I always give the same detailed request and 5/10 times they just botch the haircut. I ask for a 3-2 fade on the side, and to leave my top at a little over 3 inches. I also try and tell them to be a little conservative with the cutting on top because it seems like most barbers cut too much and then it’s just too late. I honestly just don’t know what to. Shit is so frustrating getting a bad haircut and still having to pay for it too.
I also have idea wtf to say to my hairdresser when they totally botch my haircut without being overly rude either. Shit is just so frustrating when they chop my shit up and I’m stuck wearing a beanie for the next 2 weeks until my hair looks half decent.
Yes thankyou, I hate when clients do this. I always need to look up wtf they are talking about to see exactly what they are looking for. And I always need to still ask. Okay so about a 5 on top? And 3 1/2 on sides? Just give me a rough estimate of length.
If anyone came in and said I want tik tok haircut, I’d tell them to get out….

Photos help alot. But people need to know that different hair and texture play a big part too.
Also styling the hair. A lot of hair pics are heavily styled and/or photoshopped.
Pics are a great tool just keep in mind stylists are not magical. 😉

1:00 Exactly communication. I want a high fade, parted. But when they see my hair length its barely an inch of growth. But then when you terms like "disconnected", "pompadour", "flat top" theres more confusion. So now I just taper my neck and sides every 2 weeks. Growing my hair into a man bun and hope they don't butcher my sides
It takes very specific communication too, i asked For a taper 2 months ago while i was growing it out, and he straight up cutted like 3cm out of My hair, now i just don't go to the barber gg

I’m a very simple person with hair cuts… just tell them #4 on top #2 on side. Simple and every one understands it. Grew fond of the short hairstyle when I was in the military. Especially since when my hair gets longer, it gets wavy and unruly, and I have to use hairspray or moose to try and control it..

Hello, I tell my barber exactly how I want the haircut and support my words with a picture of the haircut I want, which is the classic mollet haircut, but unfortunately he cuts it completely differently from what I want, and this situation bothers me, until I search on TH-cam for a way to show me how to cut my hair in the way I want to cut my hair myself, and this is what I do now that I cut my hair myself.

Yo i asked for a low taper fade and he asked me if I wanted skin tight and I didn’t even know what that was and I just panicked and said yes. Then two seconds later I look in the mirror and see that he made my sides bald and I was so mad but it was too late. I’m never getting a fade again.

I don't appreciate the attitude from a stylist when you try to explain. Especially because that's not a customers profession.
I have always always shown the hair stylists a picture and/or video of exactly what I want, and I get just that!! 🥹🫶🏽
