Curriculum review, begin at Pre-primary. Enlist people who KNOW how to introduce children to reading, writing, numeracy. A panel like this should include people of all SA languages.....acquiring these skills may be strongly linked to mother tongue, and culture.
I'm a retired Secondary School teacher. I loved it.

An excellent appointment!! A person that speaks so well and knows what she is talking about. We must all support her and help bring our education system to world standard. Her confidence at being able to work with the unions provided they have the welfare of the child and educators at heart is highly remarkable.

Siviwe, teachers must now get out of the political arena and focus on classroom issues.
They spend all the time on Unions instead of regular personal upgrading programme that align their work to latest approaches to the profession worldwide, starting in Zimbabwe who are very impressive indeed.

There needs to be more training for teachers for Special Needs education. Our special needs kids and youth do not have resources to better their education. This includes your disabled kids and our kids who are on the spectrum. These learners are suffering! I see it as a parent of a learner with additional educational needs.

Thank you Siviwe and Sakina. We love you the Minister and receive our prayer. We don't have to pressurised the new Mister, she will prioritise all unresolved outstanding issue of the Department of Education. I think SADTU and other Unions must bring their inputs comments or discussion to the table in order for the Minister to run the Department easily, instead of bringing negativity. The 30% Grade 12 University Entrance is a Drop-out of before first year and after. I want the Minister to liaise with Gauteng Province (Tshwane), public school that has long time ago started Early learning development of school learners from Grade RR-R, and from Grade 1-7, learning Spelling and Reading, Maths, English and Afrikaans and projects, from Grade RR-R and from Grade 1-7, teachers and childrens are doing well and they are the Top Performers and this BELA BILL Education Amendment BILL, Mother's tongue language, i resolved it as a granny, my 2 Grand daughters are doing Afrikaans as a mothers tongue language and they don't have a problem because parents and grannies don't know Sesotho, Sepedi and Tshivenda.

Congratulations to Ms S Gwarube her appointment as Minister in the DBE.
Let's give her a chance. For me, as a teachers he has her finger on the pulse.
2nd point is that journalists must stop to talk about what they do not know. The 30% matter is not new. Symbol F was a % between 30%-39% and there was an aggregate F-S, school leaving certificate, so( 30-39) % was a pass mark. In this dispensation, there is no aggregate 30% pass mark, but rather a minimum combination of 30% and 40% for one to obtain what is called matric Hihger certificate, which is equivalent to S-F or S-E or S-EE
