    He is talking about the Delhi government. But the fact is that freebies or subsidies cost only less than 4% of the total budget.

    • @ashishpursani
      @ashishpursani 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Delhi government was never mentioned. Delhi is primarily a city rather than a large state, and it generates significant tax revenue. Therefore, it is natural that the cost to the Delhi government would be lower. One can refer to the RBI report and data to understand how subsidies and other operational expenses affect state budgets, ultimately leading to substantial debt burdens.

    This was a good conversation. I can see how the Ashish meant well, because a lot of us think this way and our anger/understanding get misdirected at people who seem to be getting more than us. But the reality is, it's the people we don't see on our day to day lives, the rich folks, who we really need to think about. I hope Ashish will feel encouraged to find out more about this by reading works of economists working on Indian tax. Great video, once again!

  • @TarunKanthK
    @TarunKanthK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The question Ashish asked is correct.
    Middle class people are getting very little in return compared what we are paying.
    To state a few examples :
    1. Quality of Roads. Because of potholes on roads thousands of accidents happening in India stats are saying.
    2. Education and Health care are very costly. Atleast from the past decade schemes like Arogya Sri/Arogya Yojana or something came up. Initiated in Andhra state, later adopted by Central government. But before that there is no aid for poor people at all.
    If you are poor and sick, you are dead. Your Family members can say good bye to you.
    3. Police, justice system.
    We know how poorly they work. There are lakhs of unsolved cases they say. And how powerful people can influence them. An mla or mp or a person from some political party. How easy can they influence a party.
    On the other hand hundreds of vacancies not filling up in police and courts. 🤷‍♂️
    Just because if they can delay those vacancies, the politicians can spend the money in the budget else where where they get votes. 🤷‍♂️
    4. Transportation
    In most of the major cities in the west. All the ways of transportation are under government, and goes hand in hand with each other.
    For example I lIve in Hyderabad, and if I want to travel from Point A to Point B in public transport.
    Then I have to walk for 300 metres to reach a bus stop,
    take a bus to the metro,
    Take the metro to reach nearest metro to Point B,
    Again on reaching the Destination Metro I have to walk another 300 metres.
    All this takes more time than riding a bike.
    And all this system ends at 10 - 12pm. (Most of the cities) After 10pm. You find no busses. 🤷‍♂️
    Your die - you die. 😄
    How is public transport helping me !
    Rather I ride a bike. Even though I want to fight climate change and stuff. I cannot.
    Just because it's not accessible to me.
    In London on the other hand. All the public transport have the common ticketing system.
    I don't have to take one ticket for bus, another for metro, and another for bus after that.
    And also for most of the places in London, some form of public transport will be available in around 150 metres. (Or 200 I don't remember the exact number correct.)
    And some politicians when mentioning about metro cities wonder why traffic is increasing in those cities. 🤷‍♂️
    Conclusion/Question:
    All this boils down to money.
    The Money is not being spent on health, education, roads, law and order, transportation. Where is it being spent !
    Some of it is being looted in curruption.
    Some of it in irrational welfare schemes. (Underline irrational please.)
    Irrational in the sense giving more than they need,
    And to more people than needed.
    I am not blaming the people who are taking such social welfare schemes. From decades it's been the case that who ever comes to power, it's of no use to public. They thought anyway those politicians are doing scams, why should we sit at home.
    So, let's take money for election, And take some freebies. 🤷‍♂️
    Why miss the opportunity. 😅
    From there it's a viscious cycle.

    More than the subsidies, everyday I encounter the "general quota'' peeps talks about how reservation is the cause of intellectual drain of the country and how the nation would suffer bcoz of it.
    @vimoh any advice on how to approach this retort of theirs?

    • @vimohlive
      @vimohlive  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The fact that they make this argument is proof that they have nothing intellectual to contribute to the conversation. There is a playlist on this channel called "Caste Conversations". It's full of these fellows.

      It's like they have no understanding of the concept of reparations. One of my mates in college used to say that "they" have the EWS category for people who are struggling financially, why do "they" need an entire category of reservation in addition to that?
