Skies of Arcadia is probably one of the best RPG's I ever played. i got early access to it on the Dreamcast and fell in love. First time I felt like that since FFVII. An S for me allways
Though I have beaten that game, Tales of the Abyss, which I played on the 3DS, is a much better game, especially with the character development goes. Between Lloyd and Luke, I think Luke is the better protagonist, mainly because of his growth, Lloyd has none.
Hey Erick, love seeing you busy releasing videos on a regular schedule. That Chrono Cross poster on your wall is sweet. GC was such a beautiful console and was way ahead of its time with quick load times and amazing graphics. Skies of Arcadia & Phantasy Star Online games were def. my favorite. I even had the stupid large "keyboard" controller for it.
B for Skies of Arcadia? I'm playing it right now. I really like the story and the overall feeling of adventure. Looking forward to seeing the ending in a couple weeks to make a final impression. I will say, I love the graphics. Bein up in the clouds for alot of the game is sweet, and also some of the air ship battles are just a blast.
I specifically bought Baton Kaitos a while back due to one of your videos. Its amazing. The battle system is a unique absoloutley fulfilling. It never gets boring. And the story...sweet mother of God !!! that story is gnarly as all hell. Plus those pre rendered backgrounds look amazing and hold up well to this day.
I just started playing and I’m loving it but finding the story a bit slow at the moment...considering the length of the game I’m assuming I will eventually see what you mean! Looking forward to it.
2 years late but i agree it's on of my favorite Jrpgs of all time. I really loved the twists of the story and the card based combat system. I really want a baten kaitos 3 or a remake of the first game.
Can't believe you did Paper Mario TTYD I was just checking this video for new games I haven't heard of. Then you said it wasn't Super Paper Mario... If you get the chance run that back, something went wrong in your playthrough. Music, Easter eggs, partners (baby yoshi), upgrades, lvl up + badge system, 100 trial pit. And the aspect that separates it the most from the other Mario RPGs being the "stylish" points
Just got into JRPG's quite recently. I got into it with FF7 last month, and my god did it open my eyes to an entire new genre of games that are gems! Now im playing DQ11 and already have a list of other JRPGS to play after! Next is Lunar Silver Star. Glad I found this channel, you were the one who introduced me into Lunar !
The story telling and the adventure is so rich and memorable, that's why there are so many great memories for the ones who had the chance to play at Skies =). Wonderful game and quite innovative on many aspects back to that time.
Yeah, it remains as my favorite game I've ever played. A lot of it is due to nostalgia no doubt, but besides that the music, environment and characters are some of my favorites in any video game.
I played that game... for sure 10 times complete and still get goosebumps when you get the Delphinius and escape from Valua. The Music, the ship, I fell always like that little kid in the past who gets overload with excitement. S Tier
Skies of Arcadia Legends... is my Gamecube jam. For good reasons. It's the complete and definitive version of the game which includes content left out of the Dreamcast version, chock full of interesting mechanics and varied battle systems ranging from standard on-foot fights to ship battles.

Totally agree with you on Baten Kaitos. The only flaw to that one was the weird Audio issues that made everyone talk with reverb, and it's sequel was just not as good. I also find it funny that you basically listed off what I would have put in the A tier at the end. Unordered version of my list.... S: Baten Kaitos, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door A: Skies of Arcadia Legends, Mega Man X Command Mission, Tales of Symphonia B: Baten Kaitos Origins And that was all the RPGs I played for the Gamecube. I thought I was on top of that system but I missed a LOT of middling RPGs, it seems.
An HD remaster of Skies of Arcadia would be delightful, mostly because it's so expensive and I'd rather not spend $150+ for a game I've never played before. :') Still, I'd like to keep my hopes up considering that Grandia got the HD treatment too, idk. I only have Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and Lost Ocean ($42 with shipping in very good condition isn't so bad) and Pokemon Colosseum on the Gamecube, so having some other titles on the eShop at least would be great especially given how fucking expensive they are now (e.g. Pokemon XD, PoR). Such a shame they aren't when PSN has a lot of their classic JRPGs available digitally. Edit: I found a copy of XD for $20, though not in the most okay condition lol
I for the most part agree, other then Tales and Sky's would be in S rank for me. Was sad how over all so few RPG's Released on the Cube. Nice job as always.
Many of these games flew way over my head as I was not gaming on Gamecube at all during this time, kind of the same scenario for me as the Wii and JRPGs where even though there are some I never saw and played little of them. There are a few of these titles I;'ve never heard of before and I consider that to be pretty impressive as I have been watching this channel as much as I have. Amazing Kingdom? Evolution Worlds? Custom Robo? Not familiar, but out of the three I just named I think I'd try Custom Robo. Once again, incredibly good ranking video!
I have been watching someone play through the Baten Kaitos Origins game and the visuals are fucking stunning for the same. the art design is incredible and its a beautiful game. I have had those games on my radar for a while but I will def get around to them this year. The animations in the battles also look incredible for a mid 2000's game.
"It's not that good of a game. It has questionable interface so I still think it's a hidden gem, I still recommend it but compared to the first game it's just not as good. But it's still an okay game." What? So is it not a good game, a hidden gem or an okay game? These are 3 very different things that you lumped together making them sound like the same but they're not. It's hard to tell how your actual opinion on games when you call everything a hidden gem including games you put on the 'C' tier, I wouldn't really call those hidden gems. Not every game that is relatively obscure is automatically a hidden gem. It sorta waters down the meaning when you throw it around everywhere
Complete tier list S- Baten Kaitos - Eternal Wings, Fire Emblem path of radiance A - none B - Baten Kaitos - origins, Custom Robo, Evolution Worlds, Lost Kingdom 1, Mega Man X - Commans Mission, Paper Mario, Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia C - Amazing Island, Digimon World 4, Final Fantasy - Crystal Chronicles, Lost Kingdom 2, Megaman - Network Transmission, Phantasy Star Online 1&2, Phantasy Star Online 3, D - Virtua Quest, Yugioh E - Medabots - Infinity

Yea Amazing Island is a hidden gem. It's *really* good if you like making and designing your own creatures and using it. Note this was way before Spore was out.
The GameCube didn’t have a ton of games but what it did have were EXCELLENT games. Both Baten Kaitos games, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online and Tales of Symphonia are easy S tiers imo.
They need to remaster Skies of Arcadia so bad. My brother loved that game and I always wanted to play it(which is why I bought Nostalgia on the DS because of the airship battles). I would take remasters of the Baten Kaitos games on the Switch as well. Monolith will have to port something else besides just Xenoblade X eventually.
Thanks for making me discover this game "Nostalgia", never heard about it before. Thanks to emulator because of the ridiculous price of Skies of Arcadia Legend.
Oh man I totally agree with you on S for Baiten Kaitos and B for Origins. What did they do to that amazing battle system? Ugh. The story and character element was still good, but I quit it because I couldn't stand the battle system. It just felt like everything was totally based on luck and you couldn't even grind levels because exp was so minimal. I didn't even get to the bird.
Tales of Symphonia sealed the deal for me on the Tales series. To me it had the best of everything. Characters, story, gameplay, lore... I felt like I could actually BE there. Fighting with Lloyd...
Amazing Island! I played that. It felt a bit cheap, but I really liked it and played all the way through. And nobody knows about Custom Robo? Was I just in a different dimension in the 2000s? I played and beat this one too. Great battle system, but the story was just tournament after tournament.
Whoa, I wasn't expecting Baten Kaitos 2 to be rated lower than 1, let alone that much lower! Evolution should certainly be lower. I would've bumped it to A with Skies and Tales. Personal favorites are Skies, Tales, and Baten Kaitos. Never really got into SRPGs outside of Arc the Lad series, unfortunately. I should still definitely try out Fire Emblem some day.
I owned 4 games for gamecube tloz wind waker Mario kart double dash smash bros melee and fire emblem path of radiance an i played fire emblem the most and my gamecube only lasted 29 months before it burnt out
I'm sorry man, but Baten kaitos 1 is great, Origins on the other hand is PERFECT! Probably the jrpg I've played most (along side paper mario TTYD and FE) on GC. Never felt any "difficulty spike", maybe you should dive deeper on the deck system. Also the story was amazing, and the voice acting ( for the time) was outstanding (Guillo voice is amazing). On the soundtrack side -> The Valedictory Elegy
just came here to see where you would rank Skies of Arcadia. I'm disappointed. And about Paper Mario: "its's amazing, it's mario, a fantatisc game, very popular, but, IT'S NOT MARIO RPG, so it's a B" ...dude what? That's a very biased way to rate a game lmao
I got the gamecube when i was fairly young. Had no real concept of game genres or how to research good games. I somehow ended up with baten kaitos eternal wings and FE path of radiance. Bought both new in the store as complete blind buys. They were in my early days of "Rpgs...yea i think i like them kinds of games". FE POR was my first strategy rpg. Lost kingdoms i also had but man i made that fateful error of saving mid dungeon and then not being strong enough to beat said dungeon and having no other save files so i couldnt go back. Ending up just rage quitting that game.
Man I don’t know how I discovered this many questionable/random games but I’m glad I’m not the only one who used to think, “why am I playing this” lol the Metabots part had me laughing because I remember being so confused on why this game looked so good and I was hype from the anime and then the game was just SOOOOOO BAAAADD. Sooo slowww. As a kid I kept playing until I eventually got better games but SHEESH!
KoossTom Robo made my day 😂.. And i think Mr. KoosTom Robot/Mooltiplayer Man just mentioned Arcadia and Symphonia for the sake of reviews and haven't play it properly. Just my thoughts though. Tis my comments not yours so..
I usually agree with Eric on a lot however I have to disagree with his comments about Lost Kingdoms 2 - it's significantly better than the first. Absolutely love the game, but it is made better if you have a save file from the first one on your memory card.
Ah baten kaitos was such a good game. I never played the second one but the first one is a masterpiece in my opinion. I think that game deserve a remake or a sequel for sure. But it just kind of died out after the second one.
Out of all of these, I only have three games, the two Phantsy Star Online games and Tales of Symphonia, I only managed to beat ToS. I like the PSO I & II, but PSO III is to this day a regret of a choice. That said, I would like PSO I & II ported to the Switch.
Paper Mario is definitely the definition of excellent so I do disagree with the B tier on that, while yes it's not super mario RPG it was great in it's own right. I can't comment on a lot of these other games as I don't like card based RPG's so I never played any of those, and I never was into Fire emblem until recently so I wouldn't mind checking out path of radiance now after enjoying 3 houses. I also want to check out Skies of Arcadia one of these days as i've heard it's excellent as well.
Considering how graphically powerful the Gamecube was, it's really sad it never really received any serious JRPGs with deep storylines, maybe Baiten Kaitos and _maybe_ Skies of Arcadia... Not a big fan of the anime-ish JRPGs, which make up like 90% of this list :(
Baten kaitos origins is one of my favorite games. I love it more than the first. But yes, that damn bird and it's stupid babies. Isn't it right around disc 2? The first game is fun, replaying it now I forgot how much I love it.
I find your impression of the Medabots game to be entirely fair. It's that bad and it had so much more potential. Even as a fan of Medabots that was not the best experience. It was all I had at the time though, so I put hours into it lol
logic lion Skies of Arcadia!!!! Paper Mario, Tales of Symphonia ( PS3 version) Baten Kaitos, Evolution World, FInal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ( Switch remastered) Fire Emblem Pokémon Colosseum
1- Skies of Arcadia Legend if you want a unique, rare, long and very great rpg with some side quest. 2- Tales of Symphonia if you want a common, very long, and very great rpg with many side quest. 3- Paper mario if you want a great casual rpg that is funny. 4- Baten Kaitos if you want a complex, very long, but very good game.
Skies of Arcadia is unquestionably an S tier. Tales of Symphonia would be an A tier. Hate that he missed the mark on those 2 as they are clearly better than all his other B tier picks in my opinion.
Custom RObo ... sadly not in PAL regions :-( i only got into the Series due to the DS game Also PSO: yeah it has a "story mode" but... it's nothing really it's more "here is a quest do this and that"
Paper Mario and Skies of arcadia deserved at least an A :^
I stopped the video when he gave Paper Mario a B. He is entitled to his opinion, but I am just as entitled to think him wrong.
And Takes of Symphonia
It seemed to me something done by a layman.

KoossTom Robo made my day 😂.. And i think Mr. KoosTom Robot/Mooltiplayer Man just mentioned Arcadia and Symphonia for the sake of reviews and haven't play it properly. Just my thoughts though. Tis my comments not yours so..
I'm a simple man. I see a Titania thumbnail, I click the video
Man, JRPGs on nintendo consoles sure were a mixed bag of quality back then.
I usually agree with Eric on a lot however I have to disagree with his comments about Lost Kingdoms 2 - it's significantly better than the first. Absolutely love the game, but it is made better if you have a save file from the first one on your memory card.
I'm a diehard mega man fan and I love network transmission
Ah baten kaitos was such a good game. I never played the second one but the first one is a masterpiece in my opinion. I think that game deserve a remake or a sequel for sure. But it just kind of died out after the second one.
Out of all of these, I only have three games, the two Phantsy Star Online games and Tales of Symphonia, I only managed to beat ToS. I like the PSO I & II, but PSO III is to this day a regret of a choice.
That said, I would like PSO I & II ported to the Switch.
Yeah not ranking games you haven’t played or don’t have any fondness of is a good idea.
Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite Nintendo game ever. That B hurts lol.
A tier is empty 😢
1. Paper Mario
2. Symphonia
3. Fire Emblem
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings in S is Unfathomably based, but Origins in B is significantly less based
Paper Mario is definitely the definition of excellent so I do disagree with the B tier on that, while yes it's not super mario RPG it was great in it's own right.
Missing Gotcha Force
Considering how graphically powerful the Gamecube was, it's really sad it never really received any serious JRPGs with deep storylines, maybe Baiten Kaitos and _maybe_ Skies of Arcadia... Not a big fan of the anime-ish JRPGs, which make up like 90% of this list :(
wish the GC disc system allowed a bit more memory. all the RPGs on ps2, game cube only have a fraction.
Dude put the kinda mecha based "ARPGs" Custom Robo, and even the crappy Medabots Infinity. However, he did not include Gotcha Force? COME ON.
Baten kaitos origins is one of my favorite games. I love it more than the first. But yes, that damn bird and it's stupid babies. Isn't it right around disc 2? The first game is fun, replaying it now I forgot how much I love it.
It’s the most frustrating battle I’ve ever had in an rpg
they are not many jrpgs on the gamecube, but some of them are very very good
Paper Mario 2, Skies of Arcadia and Tales of Symphonia in B rank. I loled hard.
how did u know that i need some jrpg on gamecube?
thx bro
Yeet Gamecube! 💪
The GC had way too many card based mechanics in their rpgs. This was because the popularity of Magic:TG and Pokemon back then.
I find your impression of the Medabots game to be entirely fair. It's that bad and it had so much more potential. Even as a fan of Medabots that was not the best experience. It was all I had at the time though, so I put hours into it lol
Mans put 3 of the greatest games in Nintendos catalog in b lol crazy also origins is leagues ahead i dont think u fully learned the combo system
Never played any jrpg for gamecube, which ones you think i should start with?
logic lion Skies of Arcadia!!!! Paper Mario, Tales of Symphonia ( PS3 version) Baten Kaitos, Evolution World, FInal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ( Switch remastered) Fire Emblem
Pokémon Colosseum
@@ANIME-ci8mt thanks!
Skies of Arcadia
1- Skies of Arcadia Legend if you want a unique, rare, long and very great rpg with some side quest.
2- Tales of Symphonia if you want a common, very long, and very great rpg with many side quest.
3- Paper mario if you want a great casual rpg that is funny.
4- Baten Kaitos if you want a complex, very long, but very good game.
Skies of Arcadia is unquestionably an S tier. Tales of Symphonia would be an A tier. Hate that he missed the mark on those 2 as they are clearly better than all his other B tier picks in my opinion.
The only thing I remember from baten kaitos 2 is that stupid bird battle
resident evil was my favorite jrpg on gc
Custom RObo ... sadly not in PAL regions :-( i only got into the Series due to the DS game
Also PSO: yeah it has a "story mode" but... it's nothing really it's more "here is a quest do this and that"
Baten Kaitos at S? Agreed
How can you not like baten kaitos origins, that games story was 10 x better than the second game and paved the way for the second one
