    The seventh is important because it leads somewhere. The third, to define the chord and the seventh leads our ears to the resolution. The purpose of “dominant” chords are to resolve our ears somewhere.
    I love that you talk about the importance of how to voice correctly. I’ve been learning closed voicing and it’s key to make sure you do not cloud the melody line. Therefore we put all other harmonies below the melody line. Voice according to the melody line, that’s why your voicing sounds so good

    I am saying that you give the formula of the trick, without going all the way and nailing the proof, which is based on the definition of the tritone. That jump to the trick is like throwing a 12 inch piperinch at the keyboard. I am so happy that I can follow at this level , now I see the tritone come alive at the keyboard. Again, thank you , for making music understandable to all.Much LUV.

    Thanks for clarifying that this is not a beginners concept. It's so frustrating for me to constantly see requests to play a lick or movement in another key. If you are unable ti play and transpose in all 12 keys, you're a beginner.
    Then I get these students and they get frustrated when I make them do the brain-work cause they just want the flair and flash. Haha
    You explain so clearly. Thanks!

    You are one of the better teachers on YT, but here we have another meandering "tritone simplifed" like on so many channels. It's an improvised one take explanation, and no matter how gifted and blessed you are, no concise explanation of the concept is coming with those two limitations. So maybe it's a teaser. The real thing would get you 600k views, and many more purchases, but would take alot of planning and editing. I learned anyway and you are so pleasant, thank you. You have a bunch of great videos which have really helped me.

    Thanks Warren for another great lesson. I need a clarification on something.
    If we assume that the F7 is a primary dominant then we are perhaps looking at Bb major as the parent key.
    If we consider the diatonic chords under the dominant family, we have F7 and Amin7b5 in that family and also these two chords also share A and Eb. Therefore is it possible that B7 which is the tritone sub for F7 can also be substituted for Amin7b5 since they also share the A and Eb notes.
    I also love the way you kind of spread the notes in a chord when u land on it. It gives some cool flavour can u do a tutorial on that please.
    Thanks for your kindness.

    • @PianoLessonwithWarren
      @PianoLessonwithWarren  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      amos asante theoretical yes, B7 should be able to substitute Am7(b5). However, Am7(b5) is also the “ii” Chord for G minor key, and ii almost always want to resolve V, which would be D7.
      So without testing this theory on a song we don’t know how it will sound.
      Good question though 😊👍🏽

    Sir, please, I'll like you to do a tutorial on chord substitution in a progression, that can be substituted with another chord in the same progression, changing the system of the progression but still on the rhythm. For example, a 7-1-4 i.e progression going to the 4 chord (using the song Chasing After You by VaShawn Mitchell). Advanced substitution can be done. I saw someone playing a 3-6-2 , b7-1-2, 4-5-6-b7 & some common ones like 1-2-3-4, 5-1-4 in substitution for the 7-1-4 progression..it got me confused. Please sir i want you to enlighten us more on how to play a particular progression in different way using different progression but the same rhythm using the above song sir. Thanks in advance Sir.
