For historical context, the north wasn't completely void of racism during this time. Abolition of slavery as an idea was usually founded on economic grounds. A good chunk of the Union army got upset when Abraham Lincoln officially declared that the United States would ban slavery and also started recruiting freed slaves into special divisions. Some soldiers even deserted. The reason President Lincoln finally made one of the goals of the war the abolition of slavery was because Europe was reliant on cheap cotton from the south. And they liked to pretend that slavery wasn't an issue. They kept trying to trade with the south even after the rebelled. They were so desperate for that slave picked cotton that the Union was now blockading from going to Europe that it seemed one or more European nations might intervene on the side of the Confederacy. But once Lincoln officially made the war about slavery, Europeans were uncomfortable supporting the south. TLDR, For peak historical accuracy, both sides should be racist, but with different rhetoric. But let me guess, you wanna talk about how the war was about states' rights. Mhm mhm. Let's hear it.
"For historical context," slavery was never anywhere even CLOSE to being as prevalent in the north as it was in the south, and the south seceded from the union three months after an abolitionist was elected president because the writing was on the wall. Alexander H. Stephens was a founding father of the confederacy, and served as one its Vice President for the entirety of its existence. In his infamous cornerstone speech, he wrote: "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth." Dude didn't mince words. The entire thing was based entirely on slavery. Tall tap-hat man was going to make them stop buying and selling other human beings like cattle, and they decided they'd rather betray their nation and kill 360,000 of their countrymen than allow that happen.
I will add that a good portion of the actual soldiers doing the fighting couldn't even afford to own slaves. But the rich and powerful of the south managed to get them to fight for them with false promises and outright lies. Slave owners, especially the richest ones, were given special exemptions from service in the military of the confederacy. It was despicable. The war was for their benefit, not the poor. Not the people. It was a war for the rich slave owners, who happened to be in control of the state governments, to continue to enrich themselves through slavery.
Speaking of Europe being reliant on cotton like Britain. Imperial Russia actually sent two halves of their Baltic fleet to protect San Francisco and New York. Back then Russia saw America as a possible ally/counterweight against Britain which Russia was in the "Great Game" with. Just a fun fact. Peace ✌🏻

Seriously, for all the shit spun about this game, it's one of the least awful communities I've come across. Only DRG and Friends vs. Friends have been better overall, but half of that's just memes even.
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched for ages 😆
I always find it funny that people call this game controversial because you play as the confederacy.
And then those same people are perfectly fine with playing as, Terrorist, Nazis and Communists, without batting an eye.
This narration brings me so much joy😂
“We are horrible battle buddies”
Honestly the best gaming content creator on TH-cam absolutely hilarious👍😂
I appreciate that!
8:41 he finally joins the good guys team instead of fighting for evil.
3:22 captain oversees the field. "Hey captain". "What's up?"

Hell let loose
It's called Arma
Hell let loose
I am one of the viewers that watched this video
Thankyou for your service
Congrats on the 100k I hope you can find happiness
I love how theyre okay with killings but bad words are where they draw the line
Not sure if you’ve played during November but they have an annual zombie survival version. Humans vs zombies with bayonets and muskets - get kills to buy faster reloads, collateral kills, etc.
There's some wrong 'uns in Hell Let Loose too.
Group preference is perfectly normal in most countries actually.
Maybe you should stick to playing Fortnite then.
@@samuraieko5408just because I don't want to deal with real life racists LARPing as Nazis?
@@pebbles4195 Lol they're not real life racists, nor are they nazis. Grow up, kid.
@@pebbles4195 You shouldn't have to deal with that and im sorry you had to go through something like that while trying to enjoy a game nobody should be discriminated against ever especially by the color of their skin or sexual orientation the whole thing is problematic and worrying for the future of gaming itself
PLaying as part of a regular regiment is a much better experience. The servers are passworded to keep trolsl out and they are much more organized
This game is awesome
The "heeyl yeah" towards the end of the video was icing on the cake
south is the funnest
seems like a pretty historically accurate experience which is fine by me pardner
“What’s that yelling?”
Lol dude, you were in the Confederate Army, that was the Rebel Yell!
war of rights is so fucking fun
the racism just makes it funny (in my opinion)
Organised chaos and all the players seem to be in character - Earth
They should make a Renaissance fair kind of game
That’d be cool!
For honor?
@@mudvayne2311 there are no questions at the Renaissance fair
Unless it’s; how much does this cost?
A game where you're at a Renaissance fair? That sounds kinda weird.
Love the videos man! I get so excited when I see a new one up lol
11:23 this made me gut laugh
Ryles defected too! That save at 4:00 was movie quality epic. The enemy even fell right at your comrade's feet. Nice
The Confederates seemed like a more fun group of guys
We are. Always have been.

"I as a white man, with the nerdiest, most stereotypical voice in the world. Didnt experience racism." What a surprise 😂😂😂
It’s a game. You all take this shit to far and ruin the fun. Always assholes on every game ever made. Been playing them for 30 years
That's who experiences racism the most so not sure what your point is
The edgy teen racism on the CSA has been dwindling more and more recently. Admins are actually booting people who spam racist shit and us regular players who like the CSA for both its memeness and skill are calling those trolls out too. Oh, and primetime for weekdays is 7pm to 11pm eastern! Similar on weekends but there's usually more playing in the mornings.
Also the guy screaming like a drill sergeant at 1:55 is Frontloader. He's a gem.
One more edit: to hear people better and to have them hear you better, turn the game's master volume down about halfway and your PC/system volume up. And make sure your mic input volume is all the way up too.
Honestly if you go into a civil war game and get offended cause there's racism and mentions of slavery in VOIP and text chat, especially one that's set during the battle of Antietam (where Lincoln literally says "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious areas "are, and henceforward shall be free." a few days after the battle) then you really need to get a grip.
Yeah or don't play it. Play barbie
I mean you can play a civil war game without getting into the "role" of a slave owner or mega racist. Like you can play a ww2 game and not act like a nazi as well
Ok but racism is fun.
the funny thing is that the people just play on stereotypes of both armies and are not historically accurate as to how the soldiers actually felt and acted
there is no way this is the most controversial game on steam? Lol.. it is the best game of all time...
It's only controversial because democrats want to make everyone forget that they were the Confederacy who didn't want to give up their slaves.
@@spoileralert8440So are you saying Democrats are for smaller government and states rights?
Did the South decide to switch their political beliefs to that of the North?
What Democrat do you see flying Confederate symbols and crying about their Confederate leaders statues being torn down?
Today's Republican Party shares more in common with the Civil War Democratic Party than Lincoln's Republican party.
@@spoileralert8440 C'mon now. Don't bring that ish here. You know it's immediately going to be followed up with how the parties essentially flipped roles in the '60s.
@@lucidloon"muh parties flipped roles"

@@attackmaster519 It's... extremely well documented.
13:28 There were indeed war crimes before the Geneva Conventions. Ever hear about the Drownings at the Nantes? It was during the French Revolution, and a politician in the new Jacobin led government decided to put down an anti-revolutionary revolt by tying women and children to boats and then sinking them.
Yeah he was tried for war crimes. He got beheaded for that. And that was 1793-94
