Two things this video shown me about warfare. 1. How panic inducing it must be to lose your officer or NCOs 2. How important discipline is, amongst the ranks
I could only imagine what it must have been like to stand shoulder to shoulder as an enemy volley rips through your lines (respect for those veterans, thankfully I'm just doing it in a video game)
If you're in a company with a lousy commander you will lose and it won't be any fun. If you have a good command and everyone does their jobs it can be a very realistic game, and even if you lose you know you gave it you're all.
That, hands down, was one of most EPIC!!! moments in my 20+ years of gaming, I was super impressed with not just the whole experience but others players following orders and behaving reasonaly....and your officer actually using tactics like rank firing drills, I bet a group of players that had time to train together could become even more organised and deadly......that was pure savage organised chaos and i loved it.....1x like and sub for you, my hat off to your squad of skirmishers.
To provide some historical context for your video, it's important to understand that all Civil War infantry, excluding actual sharpshooter units, were considered light infantry. This classification differed from that of the Napoleonic wars. Regular infantry troops were often designated for skirmish duty, which could involve a single company, or multiple companies as needed. There weren't any set skirmishers; any regiment could be given this task based on their location on the field and the commander's preference. While there were instances of the best shots in companies being assigned to skirmish duty, this was the exception rather than the rule. The average engagement range between opposing forces was typically between 100 to 120 yards. As the war progressed, the proliferation of rifled muskets increased among the armies. However, the average soldier received no special training on how to utilize these rifled arms differently from the smoothbore muskets they were accustomed to. Once the first volley was fired, the battlefield was often filled with smoke, making it nearly impossible for soldiers to take aimed shots at individual opponents. Eyewitness accounts describe soldiers simply aiming at the horizon. While in a game, you might see a few hundred men on the field; actual battles would have involved tens of thousands. Thus, even taking aim at the horizon with either a smoothbore or a rifled musket would be effective at the ranges mentioned. For a deep dive into Civil War combat, I highly recommend "Civil War Infantry Tactics" by Earl Hess. Nice video!
oooh I'll check that out for sure and thank you for the info! I just finished reading Battle Cry of Freedom by McPherson, but I need to dive more into the actual tactics of the American Civil War as I started my interest in linear warfare with the Napoleonic wars and just started to branch out into the American Civil War. Please let me know if you have any other book recommendations too. I didn't want to spend too much time on the historical aspect since this is a gaming channel, buttttttttt I kinda want to incorporate more history stuff into my gaming videos hehe
Yes, those ranges are enough for a rushed and cobbled together military, during the crimean wars, Professional troops with proper length of training, can shoot a much farther range. For a conservative estimation, 500 to 700 yards.

18:48 what? Also why is everybody so caught up in the title of the game? It's called war of rights for several reasons, first off the Confederate States of America were fighting for their right to freedom from the Union, hence the name War of Rights. Secondly this war would decide whether or not millions of slaves in the southern states would be allowed their basic human RIGHT to freedom, hence the name War of Rights. Why can't we put aside controversy and arguments and enjoy a masterpiece of a game. I may not fully understand the controversy but I know enough to leave this comment. Too many people legitimately believe bullets curve upward in this game. Spending 20 minutes on the range with any rifle would show you this isn't the case. You're told to aim low, for belt, for the dick etc. because it provides the best chance to hit if your round doesn't go precisely where you're aiming (guns aren't pinpoint accurate %100 of the time)
Looks like an interesting game, kinda reminds of Mount and Blade Napoleonic Wars, except, of course, focuses on American history. Also, gotta appreciate being able to play as Confederacy, that's not very common and quite cool.

Ya the bullets do a wide arc and "jump" in the air so while the bullets do drop, if the enemies are close then they will go high. The officer in the game was spotting for us so he would tell us where to aim, such as "cut the grass" if he wants us to aim low.

Yup yup realism against real life accounts and how battles played out in real life. Thankfully, we have detailed breakdowns and accounts of how battles played out during the American Civil War (as well as other wars of linear warfare such as the Napoleonic Wars), and how units engaged as well as the length of time of those engagements. Using data from that alongside testimonies you can paint an image of how an American Civil War engagement would have looked like. Of course there is always room for error and misinterpretation, but it is almost certain that unlike what is shown in the movies, two sides did not simply march up to each other, fire a few volleys, and then blindly charge until one side won with a battle ending in 30 minutes of fighting. its kinda meh considering the game has the size of a skrimish, and without cavalry being present ATLEAST light infantry would break the formation and crawl closer to the enemy in a prone position to snipe them.
I forgot to add that this is supposed to be a small section of a wider battlefield. The way that this game does its maps is that they divide up real battles into smaller sections with bite-sized chunks.
I remember when i was playing a union where it was plain or something and there was onky rock snd some some bushes and tree in centre map (i don't remember the mao name as i okay rareky this game)and a guess what, some union officer though it was a great idea to take some skirmishers behind a medium sized rocks(they lost half its size while reaching the rock) during were rebs could have good firing range and then rebs charged at them at full force Seeing this two officers brigade though it was time to aid them so they charged at them And gues what The remaining people near the rock got smoked first even before these two brigades came and then they got smoked so harder because one rebs came from other side of plain and flanked them Now you must be wondering where i was all the time, i was around the bushes where i was able to see rebs easily and was aiming to get officers/flag bearers cuz i knew officers were shit cuz they were way too far shooting at rebs at wrong position So i was watching the whole thing away from chaos while some came back after respawning and then the funniest thing happned The ambush was so good that onky flag bearer survived and he sprinted so fast towards my direction (cuz spawn pount was in my direction) the rebs saw me and my cover was blown and boom rebs charged like hell on two people lmao (we lost game immediately after that)
One of the reasons I stopped playing this was because some people get way to into it. I dont need people screaming into their headsets like at 18:09. Annoying at best, painful at worst.
ya the minie ball it shoots acts kinda funny. In real life, it travels slow enough where you can actually see the trajectory if the lighting and angle are right.
Nothing wrong with thinking that! I've believe that everyone should play games they enjoy and not force themselves to like what they don't. That being said, I think I enjoy it so much because I am a huge history nerd and I do find the age of musketry and linear warfare to be really interesting.
The rifled musket shoots high, so it is good practice to aim lower (not to mention we were told to aim lower by our officers) I also believe during the American Civil War soldiers were taught to aim at the waist/crotch level for this very reason. I also own a restored 1861 Springfield in real life and it does indeed shoot high
I hope you all are having a great day! Thanks for stopping by and make sure you check your tire pressure so you don't get into an accident ❤

I forgot to add that this is supposed to be a small section of a wider battlefield. The way that this game does its maps is that they divide up real battles into smaller sections with bite-sized chunks.
Hella hectic 😮
Don’t eat out of dumpsters
But.. tasty :(
Where were the toilets?
In your mouth.
I thought i seen a Palmetto flag. Must be a SC company yall are playing as
I remember when i was playing a union where it was plain or something and there was onky rock snd some some bushes and tree in centre map (i don't remember the mao name as i okay rareky this game)and a guess what, some union officer though it was a great idea to take some skirmishers behind a medium sized rocks(they lost half its size while reaching the rock) during were rebs could have good firing range and then rebs charged at them at full force
Seeing this two officers brigade though it was time to aid them so they charged at them
And gues what
The remaining people near the rock got smoked first even before these two brigades came and then they got smoked so harder because one rebs came from other side of plain and flanked them
Now you must be wondering where i was all the time, i was around the bushes where i was able to see rebs easily and was aiming to get officers/flag bearers cuz i knew officers were shit cuz they were way too far shooting at rebs at wrong position
So i was watching the whole thing away from chaos while some came back after respawning and then the funniest thing happned
The ambush was so good that onky flag bearer survived and he sprinted so fast towards my direction (cuz spawn pount was in my direction) the rebs saw me and my cover was blown and boom rebs charged like hell on two people lmao (we lost game immediately after that)
Btw great content man (hope so yt doesn't hide this comment)
Holyshit thats the map at 16:23 as i can see the mao but at my time they were on unions right side
Thank you for the support and yeah sometimes this game turns into a movie and all you can do is sit backkk and watch
The War of Rights??? LMAO
Hey I didn't name the game 😭
“you can take off that bayonet by the way it’s more accurate” don’t even make a comment
its too bad about the purported racism by some in the community, because this game play is fantastic!
I agreee
Hi
Wow
Hold Faster.
What game is this?
War of Rights (on Steam - PC Only)
Depiction***
you right you right
Ugh I still hate what they called the game. "War of Rights" makes the devs sound like a bunch of lost causers lmao
Yup yup I agree and I sure hope the devs aren't lost causers
The devs are from Denmark, and the name suits the war.
@@SaintThomasAquinas1im relieved it had war of northern aggresion energy
One of the reasons I stopped playing this was because some people get way to into it. I dont need people screaming into their headsets like at 18:09. Annoying at best, painful at worst.
You aim way to low every time lol
LOL "rights."
10:05 damn these rifles are hella inaccurate if you hit the flag by aiming 10 ft to the left of the flag
ya the minie ball it shoots acts kinda funny. In real life, it travels slow enough where you can actually see the trajectory if the lighting and angle are right.
No offense but you just cant shoot... You need to practice.
You are shooting way too low
I follow orders like a good private, I cut the grass as told
The bullets go up
Ngl this game looks pretty boring and stupid.
Bro is missing out on peak gameplay
Nothing wrong with thinking that! I've believe that everyone should play games they enjoy and not force themselves to like what they don't. That being said, I think I enjoy it so much because I am a huge history nerd and I do find the age of musketry and linear warfare to be really interesting.
To each their own I suppose :(
you might do better if you stop aiming at the floor
The rifled musket shoots high, so it is good practice to aim lower (not to mention we were told to aim lower by our officers)
I also believe during the American Civil War soldiers were taught to aim at the waist/crotch level for this very reason.
I also own a restored 1861 Springfield in real life and it does indeed shoot high
@Ratmothy I'm a little late to the conversation, but that's really cool. Would you consider putting videos of it on your channel?
@@jacobyouknowwho Once I do a face reveal I will make a video of me shooting it :D
