The grass tree also known as black boy is a native with a lot of uses. I harvested some of the dried resin from the base of the tree and off the ground (this does not harm the tree), it looks like the rest of the stem but can be recognized by it's roundness.I melted it down with some wood ash and old dry cattle dung(any fine fibrous material will do) and mixed it together. I will be using it for a future project. The glue can be molded after it cools slightly and then will set rock hard. Very similar to making pine pitch but this was much easier to work with and more durable. Grass trees also have edible roots, sweet flower nectar, sugar stores, the flower stalks are excellent for friction fires and as light spear shafts (after they dry out and drop to the ground). However these trees are very slow growing (2.5cm per year) and long lived (some around 600 years old) so a few of the uses I mentioned (eating roots and extracting sugar) are unethical and illegal as it kills the tree. DON'T EAT ANYTHING WITHOUT MAKING A POSITIVE ID FIRST!

Great video man I'm from Perth and we have lodes of these and I love their sap and I absolutely love the smell but my family hates it LOL but the grass tree sap could truly be a life saver in a survival situation.

Thanks for the information! Did you use charcoal or the white ash in the mix? The ash is potassium carbonate where as the charcoal is carbon.

Disrespectful to call them blackboys mate. Respect the traditional land owners.
