Hi Ben - I have to admit that when you routed via Swanley (Alkin) I thought you were going North about the London zones, contrary to the chart that you showed. I think this is also why the controller did a double-take when you reported westbound from Swanley as he had ILS traffic on 21. As you know, all IFR traffic approaches via ILS 21 and then circles for 03 because there are no approach aids on 03 because of the Gatwick zone. I don't know what info you had submitted to ATC but something seems to have caused you to fly unexpectedly through an active ILS.
Thanks for the comment - we booked out with air traffic about initially routing to Swanley, the reason being to climb and then flow westbound. This just seemed to coincide with when an aircraft was on approach but there was safe separation and we had good SA on its position.

I was a Ths controller not too long ago and back then KB would have received a 20nm and 10nm inbound check on the Citation (Things may have changed!). I'm just wondering why you didn't get Tfc info on the inbound either on take-off or on first contact with APP. If the CIT was at 4nm when you were at Swanley then he'd have been base leg at 6-8nm when you turned at 1nm (but arguably up at 3A). The slight confision on the turn westbound seems to indicate something missed somewhere, and maybe the controller thought that you were going to continue to diverge.
