Everquest Request: What should I look into?

  • Hello my fellow Norrathians! To celebrate everyone that has stopped by my little corner of the internet, I'm officially taking requests for topics ya'll would be interested in.
    Now I'm going to ask each person only submit one request, that questions don't go beyond the Legacy of Ykesha release, and that everyone understand that not every request is gonna get a video. Norrath is a big place and I'm just one necromancer! (Honestly though, I just need more time to research some topics, others only have lore in unverified forum posts and some just might not have any!)
    If someone has already commented on a topic you would like to see, you can reply to their comment or make a new comment, either way works. This will help me know what ya'll are interested in and what I can start looking into as I go forward. This is just my little way of saying thank you for all the kind words, views, likes and whatnot. Also, enjoy my stupid cookie icon. I'm putting December 8th as the cut off date for the topic of the next video, but if you've come in after that you can still leave a comment so I can come back here later for ideas.
    I hope all of you have a great holiday season, stay safe, eat your Bixie Crunchies, and I'll see you next time!
    (Hey I managed to do my first editing effect woot!)

    Hello my fellow Norrathians! I know we still have a few days to go on topic submissions but I just wanted to thank everyone for their input and let ya'll know how much I'm loving these suggestions. I hadn't even heard of some of these topics before! For anyone wondering why I asked that questions not go beyond the Legacy of Ykesha release, its simply because the lore after the LOY release is much better preserved and easier to find while pre-LOY lore isn't. There's some lore that seems to only be preserved in out of print books or broken in-game quests, so I would like to focus on covering that era first, least it be forgotten. Now I've got a whole bunch of new things to research so I'll see ya'll around Norrath!

The best were stories of high level monks that would yell 'train to zone!' to scare lower levels on the bridge, then they would run up and feign dead with a tiny little bunny on their tail and whine about how the bunnies were 'OP'. First, I'd like to thank you for shedding light on the EQ lore in such a well put and produced manner. I've only been playing EQ for roughly a year and it quickly ranked up to my all time favorite MMOs despite me playing the genre for around 15 years already.
    That said, I'd really like it if you (or someone else) explained the metaphysics of Planes. How do they come into shape, what do they and their points of interest symbolize (hourglass in Plane of Fear?). Mostly, I'd really like to know how does adventurers' killing the gods in their very own planes tie into the lore as they don't seem to die for good. It's like they either "reassemble" themsevles back or we just kill their aspect, physical manifestation but not the gods themselves.
    Anyways, thank you very much for your work! With a game like EQ that doesn't hold your hand it's really fun and interesting to discover the lore and stories by yourself (a better part of oldshcool MMOS which is shamefully absent from many modern ones with how they just shoehorn you into the story as being the "chosen one" and shove tons of exposition and story right in your face). But it's also very easy to miss on some crucial points.

    • @lorewhoregalore1393
      @lorewhoregalore1393  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a topic I never really considered, and I'll have to do a lot more research to answer most of these questions. For symbolism, I'm not sure if there is any rhyme or reason behind them aside from interpretation. For example, one could look at the hourglass as a countdown to the inevitability of death.
      Concerning gods and death, I have a bit more info there. When gods have business on the material plane that can't be trusted to mortals they can send forth their 'avatar'. Even way back when EQ was released Cazic-Thule's “Avatar of Fear' was stomping around Norrath. This is because gods are more vulnerable when they are not in their own plane, which is the reason Rallos Zek's army dragged members of The Rathe out of the Plane of Earth to kill them in the Mountains of Rathe. When gods are killed within their own plane they can come back, though I'm sure its inconvenient.
      More recently, I can't remember which expansion, someone did manage to 'kill' Cazic-Thule and used what remained of him to become something like a god themselves. In one of the raid quests Innoruuk was even worried that once his killer was defeated, Cazic might be too weak to reform (Cazic is one of Innoruuk's few allies). Gods have died in EQ II but since that's a different timeline the rules may be different as well.
      Hopefully that answers some of your questions until I can look into this more. Glad your enjoying the videos and an old game that drops you into the world with no direction aside from your own. I always really enjoyed that, and the constant fear of getting lost, dying, and losing my corpse!

      According to the Maps of Myrist, the swamp earned its name from a group of humans tried to establish a colony here but kept failing. However, this source isn't always 100% accurate, I've always thought it had more to do with the frogloks who have escaped slavery only to worship an undead dragon rather then their rightful god.

    I spent the last two weeks watching WoW lore and playing old fantasy games, and im just not emotionally invested in any of their lore. I always compare them to everquest. The feeling is that for them, 'a bunch of things happened, action & reaction'. And for everquest, the feeling is that it is a grand story unveiling, where everything is linked together, makes sense, evokes emotion, and has a purpose. Even when i dont remember specific names, i remember the events and how they impacted the world.

    Tell us about Greenmist. Please
    The Iksar shadow knight epic, quested out of the Iksar Shadowknight guild... It has bane damage versus the shissar, but there are no shissar until Luclin comes out. So what use is Greenmist to a handsome young SK on p99? Are there shissar on Kunark that we need bane damage to destroy?
    wiki.project1999.com/Crusader%27s_Tests

    • @lorewhoregalore1393
      @lorewhoregalore1393  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a game mechanics perspective, the Bane effect was added to the Greenmist weapon shortly before Shadows of Luclin was released. From what I've been able to find, it seems like it was released to hint that the Iksar would get a chance to reap sweet revenge on their old enemies in the upcoming expansion. To my knowledge, Norrath was completely devoid of Shissar until The Buried Sea expansion, so there wouldn't be any around on P99 that you could use it against.
      From a lore perspective, the events of the Greenmist was a profound turning point in the Iksar's history, so much so that they record their time in B.G (before Green) and A.G. (after Green). Given that it was the Greenmist that freed them from the Shissar's yoke of slavery while leaving them unharmed, its hardly surprising that they hold it in such high regard. The in game book 'Before Green' outlines the event wonderfully, though it doesn't say which god brought it down upon them I suspect it may have been a member of The Rathe, punishing the Shissar for helping Rallos Zek's army access the god's planes. For an Iksar in the pre-Luclin time, I'd say be proud that you have mastered the trials of the Crusades, and carry the Greenmist with the knowledge that if the snakes ever did dare return to Kunark, you'd be ready and waiting with a weapon made just for them.

      Ok what about the Wraith of a Shissar in the Fear Plane? Is she a Shissar? Is she affected by bane damage if an Iksar shadow knight is using Greenmist? If she is not a shissar, then why is she called that?
      Many thanks.

    • @lorewhoregalore1393
      @lorewhoregalore1393  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@everquestfootpad6975 Oh good eye! I actually forgot about her, mostly because the Plane of Fear is a terrifying and I hate going there. So this one is also going to have a weird answer, since POF came out in 1999 and SOL didn't come out until 2001, I'm going to guess they simply didn't have the character models yet, so they used the harpy model they already had. Or, to speculate, since this is not a Shissar but the wraith of one, perhaps its wraith became twisted within the POF to what you see now, as the Plane of Fear does so enjoy twisting up mortals. Here is a quote from the quest giver for the Serpent Staff used to describe her:
      You say, 'What is the head of a serpent?'
      Polzin Mrid says, 'Serpent is probably not an accurate term form what you must return to me. It is actually the reminants of a spirit. The spirit is one which was eradicated long long ago by the Iksar. I believe they were called the Shissar. You may need to travel to the Iksar city to learn more about these creatures.'
      As for the Greenmist bane damage, while I don't have the weapon myself and can't test it out to say for certain, I'm comfortable in betting that the bane damage wouldn't harm her. The weapon was designed for a living creature of scale and bone, given that she is now a wraith on a plane I'm not sure she falls into that category anymore. I'm also darn near positive that the folks at SonyEQ wouldn't have remembered to go back and code this one unique mob to be eligible for the damage three years later.
      If you ever go smack her with Greenmist let me know!
