The basics of using photo resistors to control the signal flow in your music.

  • Here I show how a simple circuit with a photo resistor interrupts the signal flow of an audio source. The resistor only allows audio to pass through when light hits it. By applying a strobing light source, you can create pulsing signals that you can add effects to, and even use as a noise source for triggering samples.

    I’ve just built the exact little circuit that you have, however, it has introduced a lot of noise into the signal. Any idea why that would be?
