I modified a cassette player to play like a synth - Pt.1

- Here is the first mock-up of an instrument I'm building. A cassette player that is controlled by a few variable speed potentiometers. It's a speed-control mod that allows the cassette tape to be played like a warbly, tune-able synth sort of thing. I'll post more videos as I continue to build it.

Wow! A mini mellotron is something I've always been interested in, you're halfway there! Keep posting, you have amazing stuff, super cool!
I dig how you've tuned it and also the inherent pitch ramp of the electronics and the physical system!
Yeah, the tuning is all wacky with this thing :)
Damn! Simple idea that was brilliantly functional! Big ups!
This is possibly the fastest I've subscribed to a youtube channel
Awesome! Thanks :)
I WAS LITERALLY ABOUT TO GET THREE OF THESE CASSETTE PLAYERS AND MOD THEM, how are they hehe thank u
This is an incredible idea. Love your work
Thank you!
Very cool. wow, these builds are great. Keep’ ‘‘em up.
This is fantastic. Well done.
Fantastic work. I couldn’t love this more.. Been hankering after an Onde om1 for a long time but it’s just out of reach. This could be my answer. Keep up the excellent work. I’ll be following.
you could wire the buttons inbetween the volume wheel/slider and the soundboard!❤️
This is cool.
I imagine you can have as many extra pots and keys as you want. Maybe recycle a keybed from a broken keyboard or kids toy keyboard and use that to activate the buttons.
Very clever design
Amazing! I have a cassette player lying about the house - I am going to try my hand at making one of these :) thanks for sharing
Awesome. Good luck!
This is great!
love this.
Love it!
"This is taking the PI(tch)" I really thought you were going to say something else then!" 🤔😂🏆
Nice demo 🎼👍🏻
Super Nice !
Amazing
LOVE IT!
While I wait for the Ondes Magnetique to come in this will suffice! Making a huge “keyboard would be rad.
Fuckin sweet dude!!! Not to mention that jam is like lo fi channel study music mixed with hopeful phil collins/elton john in 2020 hahahahhaa
Very good my friend
been planning out my own version :-)
this is so freaking cool. how easy/hard was it to build this? i imagine you can do so much just by changing the tape loop
Yeah- the tape loop choice changes everything.
this is sick - full build guide?
Great....
so dang cool. what is value of the resistors? I just cant read it on the video
Nice! If you’ve a note recorded, what note is it?
Thats cool could you share circuit ? İ want do it
is there gonna be a tutorial on how i can make my own? just curious.
There will be!
Wouldn’t it be better if the buttons and the dials we’re together?
Hasta cuántas notas puede llevar ?
Do I understand correctly, that you have a tape of a sine wave in there? What happens when you put another cassette in (endless loop or just some music)?
Tutorial???
I have a spare mini delay pedal and I was wondering if I could mod my tape deck's output into the pedal then with an 1/8" output from the delay?
Just mod the output of the tape player to 1/4" and plug in the delay
😎🤘😎🤘😎🤘
Hi there,
can I also build this with 7 keys (C-B)? Can any potentiometer be tuned to this extent? Polyphonic possible with multiple Walkman ?
For all those who live in Europe and cannot buy the walkman shown here, there is an alternative in Europe, the "Groov-e GVPS525", which is identical in construction!
Thank you for that tid bit of info. I have one of those Groove players, and have not been having a good time finding out anything about them.
1:11 Cool bro, but I mean... seems useless at best though
3:18 👀 Sooooo, like... Can I get one, or...?
Uh, ummmmmmmm!!!!
Credit the source bro.
?
Just fyi pretty sure he is the source
Nice demo 🎼👍🏻
