On this episode of DTB’s “Gear Masters”, George Kollias, the drummer for the death metal band, Nile, shows off the gear that he uses onstage, while on tour with Overkill. Nile is best known for their songs “Enduring The Eternal Molestation Of Flame” and “Sacrifice Unto Sebek”.

I've always admired his style because he's one of the few extreme drummers who can actually groove while playing that fast! Also, it's good to see a musician like him being so friendly and passionate about his gear and his work. Great job!

I did stage hand for Nile at a venue here in Kansas City. When they opened for soulfly. George was really cool. From start to end. He even remember my name. And thank me. At the end. Then seen him again on the 70 k cruise. He said hi and signed my stick. Super cool again.

LOL yeah, but do you have an endorsement deal like he does? No? Me neither.
I change mine once a year. Probably should do it twice a year, but given the fact that I have 6 rack toms and 2 floor toms, most of which are an inch increment apart, it makes for a time-consuming and money consuming process. Depends on how much you play and how hard you hit as well. And the brand and model for that matter.
@Diocletian it may only be 12-20 bucks but when it comes time to re head the whole kit...fuck 😔

Lol I had one for nearly 6 years, but I wasn’t hitting that hard at that time, now I have to change heads every year. But still 4 weeks is crazy 😝

Loving those g2 360's.. i use the same on mine... 10,12,13,14,16.. reverse dot on the snare.. 14.. George is a beast.. amazing drummer...

Pro musicians want fresh clean gear and they really like the crisp feel of a newer head. Plus he beats them HARD so he needs to change a little more often

People think that the AXIS pedals are the best in the world until they discover the Czarcie Kopyto (devil's hoof) pedals from Poland ;)
the one difference between mine and your drums is the ramp i dont have, and snare drum...everything else I have is the same as you have...my drums are pearl masters premium maple, pedals, cymbals, drum heads, drum sticks...so, you do great job as endorser :)

No beater pads on the kick heads? Maybe his beaters have a soft material and he doesn't get too out of hand with kick power?
Possibly, I'm not sure.
Bowen Matheson Axis pedals are kinda light, they're not like Iron Cobras where you can stomp it so hard it breaks your fuckin drum head (I hate seeing Neanderthal drummers doing that). But the beater is a hard plastic that won't melt
Bowen Matheson he has no power without the triggers and these axis pedals --his sound is mediocre at best with anything else= hes an amazing 1trick pony with very little feel u want dynamics check out nick barker or or flo mounier

Erm, when you play upwards of 250bpm 16ths on the double kick, you NEED triggers or it will sound like grade A crap, no matter what drummer is sitting on the stool.

TheAsomeGuitarist A non ported kick feels a lot different than a ported kick. Not common these days, mostly everyone ports. It has an old school sound/rebound to it and was much more prominent with jazz players. He does have a pillow, however, to deaden things up. I for one use a coated ambassador on my bass drum with absolutely no dampening.
Jonah Martinez Maybe internally mic'ed with the Kelly Shu(couldn't see, don't know), or triggers.

Pearl has Remo to do that for them.
I'm sure talent is here, however as an owner of a pearl masters series.. Where are the cast hoops that are every pearl masters series ever? The lugs look like export lugs and I see standard steel hoops which is not indicative of master series shells. All good kits, just inaccurate information for a "GEAR" based vlog. I'll post my kit for any trolls that want to question me for some reason, this reply is not meant to tarnish anyone.
If you look close at 1:12 (I turned the playback speed down), the lugs are the Swivel Tube Lugs, the snare he’s using is a Reference Pure snare.
The new Masters Complete series sadly don't have Diecast hoops. :( which is why I stick to my Masters MCX kit rather than getting a new Masters MCT

It's probably due to the fact that he has to translate in his head before he speaks.

George simply shreds. I remember reading he teaches at the University of Athens. And that he made his first drum sticks from an olive tree. Either way, this guy is a legend in drumming.

I don't believe so. He does do clinics but I don't believe he's actively touring with any bands currently.

Anybody have his kick pedals?? Thoughts, if so
Larry Tate they’re badass for metal (obviously). Very smooth and very responsive, if you’ve never played direct drives they feel a little weird but once you get used to them you’ll never look back
They're like any other Axis pedal with a different tuning system and built in triggers. Like was said, if you're not used to direct drive get ready to relearn how to play. These pedals are also very light.
Plays 22s for the sound. Uses triggers.
