    What do you look for to know your current paint job is in good enough condition you dont need to strip/sand? Most other videos strip/sand down to bare aluminum and it looks like a huge pia that i would rather avoid.

      I had it custom mixed to match the Mossy Oak colors. It is a weird brownish green moss color. It was really a paint to get an exact match. If you call OHW they can get close match for you.

    I just bought a 14ft Jon boat. How much paint did you use in total for this? I want to paint the boat inside and out. No patterns.

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      3-4 quarts is pretty standard for most boat. That will give you enough to do 2 or 3 good coats, and then you will need 2 quarts of clear coat.

    How long after a coat of paint do you need to wait to apply the stickers?

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      depending on temps. If it is warmer than 75 about 20 minutes. If it is less than 75 I would wait and hour.

  • @austinvorwald1551

    Did you use any sort of acid etch wash prior to painting?

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope... not needed with OHW paint. It sticks to aluminum like crazy. Acid wash and all those products are old school technology before paint companies really figured out how to make paint stick to aluminum.

    • @austinvorwald1551
      @austinvorwald1551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SendItJonBoats Awesome! I'm reading the site and it says no need for primers. I use my boat it mostly saltwater. Is OHW still okay for durability with saltwater without primers, etch, etc?

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@austinvorwald1551 Yes sir, it will work just fine in salt water. The key is to make sure the boat is really clean and you get a good scuff on it right before you paint it. Scotch brite pads and some elbow grease works great, sand blast is even better!

    So I think I want to do something like this myself! Question that I haven’t been able to figure out through your vids yet. Maybe I missed it learning all this cool stuff.
    When you did the interior paint, was that UHW paint? I thought somewhere you said you were going to prime the interior?
    Just looking for clarification on interior paint with UHW.
    Great vids and hope to see more.

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I originally primed everything with epoxy primer because I was going to use a different paint system. When I couldn't get that paint to dry because of the cold temps I switched to OHW because it was actually drying at 40 degrees.

      @SendItJonBoats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Was trying to use some older paint I bought several years ago before I switched to OHW. It woulld have worked fine if the temps wouldn't have dropped too low, so I switched to the better OHW paint.

    Doesn’t seem practical for the average guy or low cost DIY... we’re your stencils expensive? I didn’t care for the Red Leg stencils I ordered.

    • @SendItJonBoats
      @SendItJonBoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely correct it is not for the average guy and by no means cheap... that's why I named it "Like a Pro"... and not "for cheap average joes". It can be done at home, but it is no way cheap. It is easy, just a lot of work and the equipment involved scares most people off. The stencils cost me about $500 total, but I had to have them after the bad experience with the stixs river stencils because this is the camo I wanted.
