This is a first time seeing a psychiatrist helping ppl ease anxiety naturally rather than forcing them on anti depressants and anxiety meds just because they really need it.

I mean sometimes u really do need meds and they can save your life, like if your suicidal or having psychosis, also vitamins and supplements can get expensive, not regulated and if u have insurance usually meds are covered. That said i think it's good to find the root cause of your mental health issues, not just expect the meds to completely do everything.I do wish more Docs would try to help u with nutrition, look into vitamin deficiencies, and hormones among other things.

@briarrose4747 Definitely. It made all the difference for me when my doctor stopped telling me I was imagining my symptoms, and referred me to a specialist. The specialist did some testing, and found I was chronically Vitamin D deficient. 👋🥴

@@briarrose4747 Doctors are not researchers. There are many scientific disciplines who are researchers working on trying to understand depression and anxiety at a biological level. We are probably years or even decades away from getting close.
Many errors will be made before we get there. But for some reason, it is clear that medications have a place in relieving symptoms that range from difficulty coping to unbearable.
There are links that are made, though not perfectly understood. But a great improvement over pre 1960’s - when the stigma of mental illness was so appalling, it was simply not discussed in public or even in the privacy of one’s home. I am that old to remember how it was.

Are you a psychologist or Psychiatrist?
As a psychologist, you cannot prescribe medication.
His methods may be fine for mild anxiety - for severe anxiety and phobic disorders, they are a joke.
Medication is sometimes absolutely necessary for quality of life.

@@user-ow2pk9io4b thank you sir for informing me of what my license can and cannot do. I'm not sure how I would have survived without that information. I interned at a residential trauma treatment center where I did work with severe anxiety and phobias holistically. I'd argue that anxiety is actually the most treatable, even curable mental illness holistically. Almost anything can be treated without medication. I've even had clients with schizophrenia and bipolar functioning very well without medication for several years and counting. I just have one question for you with all your mansplaining.... What exactly are YOUR credentials while you're sitting here explaining my area of expertise to me?

    • @Piccole_Follie
      @Piccole_Follie 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jessicaharrison1401 most doctors don't care about their patients. It's us who suffer, not them. No one should be put into long term psychotropic drugs treatments to begin with. I'm still struggling with small doses compared to what I used to take and avoiding caffeine, tea and anything that triggers my anxiety + taking herbal infusions and meditating a lot. But the main job is to know that no doctor will help you (except rare cases like the doctor in this channel) and you'll have to rely on the information available to you. Read the instructions in your benzos, it says how to reduce it. Read it carefully and see what works for you. Trust your body, you will suffer and feel that which you were given medication for. You see when the limit is. You learn. It's a damn addiction and no one warns you about it but you can do it if you really want to. Your body eventually gets used to the new patterns and responds in a more natural way. You must be willing to do it, pay the price, be patient and constant and brave and decide that you no longer need to depend on it but go carefully so that you don't need to suffer dangerous consequences. Light hugs to you 💫 You are not alone: whenever you're struggling, remember there's someone else out there struggling too!!

    *Go for a walk
*Take my husky to the beach
*Go into the forest behind my house and listen to the sounds of nature
*Take a bubble bath or shower
    *Hot cocoa or tea
*Organize something or do housework or a project
    *Gardening or yardwork
    *Music, play my Native-style flute
    *Art, painting
*Snuggle with a hot water bottle
I stopped taking clonazapam three years ago. Things that keep me busy, accomplish something, or comfort me (warmth) will stave off anxiety. Thank you!💓 However, it is VERY IMPORTANT not to demonise medications. They have their place. Sometimes, they literally, save lives. And they need to be taken first, before diet and lifestyle changes. But sometimes is the opposite… And sometimes there is no need to take them at all. Everything depends on individual needs of a patient. We, as practitioners have a huge responsibility and need to be wise and very careful of statements around mental health and other health problems. I wish you all blessings and wellbeing🙏🏻❤️

I am very happy to hear that you were able to come off a benzodiazepine.
I was put on Clonazepam at 40 years old - it was to be for life.
My psychiatrist and my GP gave me all the info I should know about it. It was my decision and I am now 70. Without Clonazepam, I would have had zero quality of life.
I did come off once - my choice. I thought maybe because I had been exposed to all my phobias for 15 years and had a normal life, that the exposure would have taken away my phobias.
I was wrong. After 6 months, everything came back. So no choice. However, coming off slowly within a period of 6 months, and under the supervision of an MD, I did not really have any withdrawal symptoms.

Dr. Amen I was prescribed Xanax for general anxiety for six years. I was told nothing about the drug, just that it would help me. At the six year mark, a new doctor told me I could stop taking it cold turkey. I ended up in the hospital with severe withdrawal and under the care of a withdrawal program. It took me 2 years to withdraw and really messed up my health, emotionally and physically. It was a lonnnnnng road back home. 😢 NEVER AGAIN!!!

@joh569 thank you for your comment and I agree. I was given no warnings and was told during withdrawal that Xanax should only be taken a maximum of six weeks !!! Instead, I unknowingly took it for six years. Those doctors were flabbergasted!!!

I've had constant anxiety for weeks now which may be a combination between the darkness and simply being unsatisfied with my situation, but it might as well be due to low iron as I sometimes am low in iron. • @KevinRStrauss

Excellent list. Sounds like great advice just for simply living well. Interestingly, these kinds of list seem to almost only focus on the physical. What about the emotional and specifically focusing on your relationships and connections. More often, our greatest stress, depression, and anxiety stem from poor connections or unresolved relationships especially family. I think humanity would do much better if we focused more on together-care than self-care.
