    Here is the secret to starting your motor after you have installed your injectors....MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRESH BATTERIES! You need maximum cranking amps to force high pressure oil and fuel into the the injectors. If your batteries are too old forget it. It wont work. It cost me almost $400 for two batteries but I got my motor to start and it was worth every Penney....good luck.

    Good video, you can just pull the fuse on the fuel pump OR just unplug the fuel pump at the connector at the pump, won't work for OBS trucks though, unless you are like me and do the e-fuel conversions.
    Just lay a rag over the head and do it with the glow plugs out, oil doesn't go everywhere that way.

    It can be a little intimidating but its not really that bad then again ive done a bunch of them lol And no problem , the new videos im working on for the 7.3 are way better its more like a video manual and in HD too , ill be covering the 7.3 from a-z for everyone , well back to editing for tonight's uploads

  • @CodytheCarGuy

    well if its 50 hp tips or less you should be fine but 75hp and above you need major tuning, exhaust mods like bigger down pipe etc. Last i knew swamps does not have a extrude hone machine so hes getting those performance nozzles from someone else. Dont get me wrong i like the guys from swamps ive talked to him several times but we talked about test stands for the 7.3 since i built my own stand, hes pretty smart and knows what hes talking about.

    A couple of things I noticed, 1, Why all the trouble turning the engine to remove liquid from cylinders. All you have to do is remove the plugs as shown and it will drain the oil back into the pan. Pull the drain plugs on the front drivers side and rear pass side and drain the fuel. Absolutely no danger in hydroing one of the cyl.

  • @CodytheCarGuy
    @CodytheCarGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    there is also a plug in the back of the head that helps drain the heads into the oil pan,the glow plugs out will only push the fluid up but not really out unless you turn the motor over w the starter which can make a big mess if you dont sit a towel over the head. I do it by hand then lightly w the starter until im sure it turns over easily

  • @CodytheCarGuy
    @CodytheCarGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No if you take the glow plug out the diesel in the cylinder will go into the fuel, but if you have one or two really full and your changing the oil anyways then you can just take the glow plug out but you still will have to turn it over by hand . if you take it out and turn it over by key it will blow it all over the place and make a big mess. Sometimes when i get to where it wont go i simply turn it back some and keep trying, and the injector bolt i just snug good its a in pound bolt

  • @garigney

    I used a vaccum pump attached a steel tube ran down into cylinders to drawn out 98% oil and fuel from cylinders. THEN on on start up just bump starter few times slowly with a few sec between bumps,, when reasemeabled work great for me.. Hops this may help some one..

    • @dsruddell
      @dsruddell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good idea. if you dont use a remote starter you can send even more fuel and oil in. also if you pull the back injector first the fuel and oil rail will drain in the back cylinder. leaving the other 6 cylinders pretty dry.

    • @vapeking5733
      @vapeking5733 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      guy at the ford dealer said to leave the key off remove the glow plugs from all the cylinder that you worked on and jump the selonoid 2 sec at a time till motor makes 3 full revs around o and i forgot only if you going to change the oil and set the valve cover on so u dont make a mess if not pump out. but at the dealer they always change oil if they remove the covers

    • @MrTackleberry79
      @MrTackleberry79 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same way I change the oil on the top end. I use a copper tube though, less scratchy.

    • @user-dn6qy1ou1f
      @user-dn6qy1ou1f 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrTackleberry79 no need to change the hpop oil. It recirculates into the engine almost immediately

  • @CodytheCarGuy
    @CodytheCarGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason you DONT want to do that is because your cylinders are full of liquid and well you cant compress liquids so that means hydrolock which can bend and break rods so you can turn it over by hand to get as much out as possible or take out the glow plugs but that can be messy and a oil change after will be needed due to diesel will be draining back to your oil pan. And thanks for the compliment on the video the new ones coming out for the 7.3 are 10 times better and in HD now

      What about a vacuum pump to suck out the fluid

  • @CodytheCarGuy
    @CodytheCarGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes you have to turn it over at least that many times sometimes more and still go to crank it as easy as you can , when the injectors come out all the fuel and oil in the rails go straight into the cylinder

  • @CodytheCarGuy
    @CodytheCarGuy  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    well there is two parts of this, one is actually taking apart your injector and then cleaning and then putting the new nozzles in which can take some time, now then there is actually changing the injector and i can do it in a couple hours per side but not everyone is that fast. And if you already have mods done then bigger nozzles will make a difference, see right now you can add all you want but you are still stuck with stock holes same as changing jets in a carb, more work to motor bigger jets

    Im having problems with my 2001 maybe you can help. it is an intermittent problem i first noticed when i went to start my truck i turned the key over to start engine light stayed on and it cranked but would not start. then the next day i was driving up to a stoplight on the brakes and the engine shut off both times i cycled the key and the light was off and it started right up. pulled codes found an icp code. cleared all codes and they stayed away until i was driving on the highway normal acceleration cruising at 60 when it starts knocking cel comes on and it loses power but stays running i pull over shut it off turn the key no cel starts right up light comes on i drive for about 2 mins goes away and runs like normal all the way home. the last time i checked the codes we found an idm malfunction code and then found a cylinder 7 high to low side open. it sounds fine and starts fine now blows a little white smoke on cold starts but i have not driven it since i was going to do a new set of injectors glow plugs and harness do you think that will cure it? going to do more testing first.

    I had the plug work loose from inside the cover and the way i could tell which bank was not hitting on the cylinder was to take a spray bottle of water and mist the exhaust manifold each individually. if it steamed off right away then you know that cylinder was firing. this saves time and effort if it is the drivers side not firing you would have to pull turbo pipes off.

But there is one electrical cable I can't remember where I took it off from. It's the cable that cones from the main engine harness goes across the valve cover clips into the dip stick plastic hose clamp thingy. Its the only plasitc loop thing that the wire loom gets held in place on the dip stick barket. Well I don't remember where the wire bolts to after that lol. I know it doesn't go to the battery. Where does it bolt to? Pls help. OH and I'm not talking about the wires that go to ur a.c. compressor and solenoid.

    • @dsruddell
      @dsruddell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      engines can run with the valve covers removed at idle/low rpm without much mess, depending on the style of oiling system. the 7.3 injectors have oil port shrouds for this very reason. it helps on diagnosis. the cleanest way of adjusting valves on a old engine is cutting a window out of a set of old valve covers. it just happens the 7.3l head is so deep most of the oil falls back right into the drain holes.

      Are you on crack? I've got 307,000 miles on mine and never even had to do injector o rings until recently.

      He must be referring to the 6.0 version. And that would not be a bad engine if emission standards would have not pushed navistar into rushing things. But 7.3 is a very good engine.
