    I bought a black 40th edition, $49k

    4Runner and hybrid: two words that should never be in the same sentence. I’ve owned three and I didn’t buy them for their gas mileage.

    4Runner has been true to its roots. And that’s why I bought mine. Love it. Comfy ride and interior yet rugged to go off the beaten path where CUV’s are left behind. Does everything I need and I know it will get me there and back. Only way I’ll trade it is if they go retro and add a removable hard top.

    Two different Toyota dealers told me that the 2024 model year will be the same as the 2023 model year. No new generation. So for those folks, there’s no need to fear of missing out on the last version. Save your money and hunker down for the economic turmoil that will be coming this summer.

  • @jimtyler1181

    Calling this thing ancient is a bit of a stretch. New 4Runners come with lane departure warning, smart key access, push button start, blind spot warning, one touch windows, rear cross traffic alert, emergency braking for cars animals and pedestrians, a 360 view camera, adaptive cruise control, touch screen navigation, apple car play, android auto, heated mirrors, childproof windows (try rolling your window up on your fingers), bluetooth, and the ability to leave breadcrumbs on your map so you don't get lost when off road, with options for craw control, multi terrain select, a locking rear differential, downhill assist, a forward facing camera if you want one, smart tex seats which are more eco friendly than leather, heated seats, SOS, and much more. It incorporates all of the safety and convenience that makes sense, and none of what doesn't. The 4Runner is just about perfect. The only things I would add would be a power tailgate and maybe a heads up display, but that's just me.

    For a 2023 vehicle, that infotainment system has to go. The new Lexus/Toyota Sequoia infotainment system should have been included instead. I know this car hasn't been refreshed in a long time though.

    As Toyota slams a 4-banger into everything, going forward, the end of a Golden Era
    The 2024 model will not only lose the V6, but will lose the power rear window, and move from being built in Japan to Mexico.

      I agree that it will get a turbo 4-cyl engine like the Highlander and lose the power rear window like the Sequoia. But I'm betting they will continue to be built in Tahara Japan.

    • @Offshore1977
      @Offshore1977 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No one knows. I believe it will have the same 4cyl as the new Highlander but I think it will still be made in Japan. The Texas and Mexico assembly plants are at full capacity with Tacoma and Tundra and unable to build the new 4Runner without creating a new factory and since they haven’t I am confident it will stay in Japans Tahara plant.

    I have a 2015 4 Runner and there are no big differences between my SR5 and the 40th anniversary addition. Same exact truck except that Toyota gives you the privilege to pay a premium for some stickers and badging. I’ll either buy another SR5 or wait and see what 2024 brings to the table.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I almost never discuss reliability because I only drive the vehicles for a week at a time so I don’t feel as though it’s my place. For the 2023 JDP study the 4Runner finished 3rd in dependability behind the Highlander and Sorento.

    • @robmorrill1
      @robmorrill1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevehammes I get where you're coming from, but having a look at a few reliability rankings and at least mentioning where the reviewed vehicle falls seems like a good inclusion, with the caveat that you're only spending a week with it. Some ranking have 4Runner as best in class (or any class) for reliability, but even the top 3 ranking you mention here is an awesome feat and a data point for potential buyers to take in. Again though, as an owner, I really agree with your review. Nice work.

    My dad bought a 95. Man was it loud in the inside! We loved the look and interior space but unless you were screaming, you couldn’t have a conversation. Also it leaked oil from every where. I have fun memories with it though. In started driving it in 2000 after my 84 Camaro Z was stolen. My dad had it parked in the garage for years until he finally decided it was time to let it go.

    • @davidkaminski615
      @davidkaminski615 ปีที่แล้ว

      SR5 and TRD pro have selectable 4wd. This means it normally operates in 2wd and the driver has to select 4wd. Limited has full-time 4wd. This means it is 4wd all the time. TRD will have the most aggressive tires out of the box. SR5 and Limited will have ride-skewed tires.

      If there is a hybrid version of the 4Runner, expect the iForce MAX in the engine bay. It may not be the 3.5L twin turbo V6 that’s in the new Sequoia and Tundra, but expect the new engine to have the bigger body-on-frame’s capabilities with a smaller displacement.
