After calling many dealerships in CA we found they were all adding an automatic $10K to MSRP just because. Finally one called back and said fine they'd sell it MSRP just to get it on the sales books for that month. Only catch was we had to drive halfway across the state. We got the black one for about $48K out the door from a dealer in the Bay area. I love it. Everywhere I go people comment on it and love it also.
I got my 40th anniversary in black! Love this 4Runner. Paid msrp in Colorado. Drove it home from the dealer 92 miles and is living in the garage. Won’t see many miles at all and will keep it pristine as my 22 Trd pro tundra is my daily.
I’m very late here but everyone saying this is not worth the money and it’s just a sticker and badge upgrade you’re wrong. Build a sr5 premium on Toyotas site and add the closest options to this you can including the bronze wheels, the shift knob, the exhaust tip, the led fog lights, the floor mats, and emblem overlays then you are sitting at over 48k and you don’t have a special edition. This is actually a good value for people who understand how car options work. I bought one in black and I chose this 40th model because of the value. It makes sense to get something special (if you like it) instead of something average if the price is the same once you add the same options. I couldn’t care less if it becomes collectible I’m going to daily drive it. If it does hold it’s value better because of the package well that’s awesome but if it doesn’t then who cares because it’s still a 4Runner and the resale is one of the highest in the industry. I paid msrp in April 2023 but had to drive from Tennessee to Illinois to find a dealer who had one on the lot unsold and agreed to sell it at msrp. Even though the car market is getting back to normal 4Runners are still being marked up even without s special edition. This is why Toyota keeps pushing the refresh back. I’m just glad I got one
I paid $49k for mine but got $34k for my trade-in (a Sport Ridgeline that’s $36,490 new, he 18k miles & 2 yrs old). Reason I bought: you can’t find real body on frame naturally-aspirated 5-speed with a bulletproof engine and transmission. It’s fun, keeps its value, and will be a hand-me down to my son who’s now 13 and in 3-4 years might be ready. Yes I set the floor mats aside, so that someday if I sell, it looks pristine.
good video-I picked up a 2023 white 40th year for MSRP. I only found one dealership in NH that could order one for MSRP, I ordered it back in May 2022 and picked it up at the end of November-I love it !!!!! old school simple and awesome all around quality 100 percent made in Japan
@@whiskeyfouroscarwhiskey6528 nice brother so far I had a 1inch leveling kit put on the front,A TRD skid plate with red tow hooks and I replaced the tires with nito grapplers and it looks awesome
You shouldn't buy cars for the resale. Buy what you like. I bought a black one simply because it looks cool. Would have only saved a few grand buying a used SR5 and it would not have looked like this. Don't need rear lockers because I have other cars that can do all that. Don't care if it becomes a collector car or not, even though I think it will. My 17 year old cannot wait to take it to college in 18 months. The fact someone mentioned a Ford Edge in this thread.........I mean, tell us about your Aztek as well.
I just bought mine.. it is my first 4Runner coming from a 2019 Subaru 3.6. This feels so much more solid. Ride is smooth, I’m not about the bells and whistles, just cruising around town and camping on weekends, works for me. No markup on mine.
Lawls..... I want one. My wife's 2006 with 330k miles 4runner is still running like a champ, in fact it's her favorite vehicle. She has a Scat Pack, Mecan S, and a volvo V60, but she still daily's the old 4 runner over anything else.
I got a white one for msrp and can’t be happier. Added all terrain tires and the dealer installed the running boards. Expensive but it has a 150k mile warranty
I paid $47500 before taxes. I got a deal as I was unable to trade my leased GM and was going to take a hit by turning it in, so they knew I was going to walk away and offered to discount where they wouldn't normally. Someone else had ordered this 4Runner and backed out, and I just happen to inquire at the right time as this one I bought with 14 miles on it right off the lot. I did go for the extra warranty up to 150k miles, bumper to bumper as I plan to keep this vehicle a long time. In case I do decide to sell it, that warranty is transferrable. Great idea to set the floor mats aside and get some all-weather ones. I got the black, it has some blue flecks of color if you look closely. Stands out with those stripes for sure.
I don't like that they use cheap stickers for the graphics and the badge on ALL of them reads "1 of 4040" as opposed to each one ,having it's own unique number (ie "3 of 4040", "689 of 4040", "4002 of 4040", etc).
Any 4 runner is worth it. But id just get a sr5 premium to be honest. I'm sure one will want one later on and pay more to get but if probably have the sticker's just painted until it's garage. I'd say sr5 premium is the sweet spot so good they went off that though.
I have a 2021 Ford bronco first edition. They only made 7k first editions and they weren't individually numbered. But I did find a place that you send them your Vin and they make a new plate that has your number. Now is it really your number? Idk I just wanted the trim level
Random question that has nothing to do with this video but what size wheel spacers were on your v70r? I have an s60 and am in the market of some wheel spacers and I am not sure how wide I want to be.
The originals are collectible. These modern take on classics wont age gracefully. I've seen anniversary harley davidsons be on sale for affordable used prices.
Must be regional. My local Chicago dealer had a white one on the lot for over a month as msrp. If this was based on the TRD OR, it would've been a runaway bestseller. And IMO, the stripe looks godawful on the red or white
The collector’s model will be the TRD Pro in its exclusive color and the TRD Off Road Premium with Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). The 40th Anniversary will be a distant 3rd or probably 4th after the AWD Limited.
As a 2016 4runner trail edition with kdss owner, I agree with you. I would also like to add that it was the trail edition that was out before the trd pro came along. But now people are finally realizing that the trd off-road is the better way to go. It's nice to see my little girl is being recognized. Maybe mine should be the collectible 😅😅
Stickers not paint, same badge not individualized numbered and no rear locker equals not collectible. Now the Edge ST I purchased comes with much higher HP/TQ twin turbo v-6, upgraded brakes, suspension and has tuned for comfortable sport driving and is quick. It is not collectible even though much greater than than the regular 4 cylinder turbo models. Sadly Toyota had a great idea but cheaped out on the production.
But Ford is junk and besides Turbo's leak you millennials you always talk about turbo engines but you don't realize they're expensive to repair and when they leak the whole vehicle is rendered useless
It’s called reliability and it still sells completely out. The ONLY reason cars get redesigns is A. They stop selling as well as the did when released which is not the case with this 4Runner or B. They can no longer meet emissions requirements -which is almost the case with this old 4.0 unfortunately.
Those graphics are hideous! Slap some '70s colors on a vehicle and cheap plastic numbers on the dash. This will NOT be a hot collector item. It's just a 4 runner.
I had a locker in my Trd pro 4Runner and have one in my Trd pro tundra. Only used them to try them out. Never needed them and ATRAC will be just fine for most everything.

Not sure why to leave off road functionality and buy sr 5 premium version in same price ?
I paid a 5k markup just on my 2022 trd orp in lunar rock with kdss and sliding rear. I could only imagine dealers want 10-15k more

What was your price? I'm in TX. I'm having to go to New Mx. Or Arkansas for MSRP price. This is for the trd off road premium.
The ultimate badge and tape job
ugly paint and badges
It would have been special of it was based on a Trd ORP, and it had the v8 from the Lexus gx. Then it would be collectable.
