    Ptsd, paranoia and anxiety all due to childhood and the military. Please, never give up people, now matter how bad it gets.
    Ive had treatment, pills and self journeys. Read lots of books and am halfway through the Chimp Paradox. An amazing book, what a guy and if only this book was available when I was younger. This is a must for everybody, and if this book was issued to kids on their birth then this could transform peoples minds. Thankyou Professor, for this fabulous golden nugget you have produced.

    @ 7m45s - I particularly found the part of simply deciphering who is 'currently' in charge and doing the talking here in your brain with the thoughts your feeling by simply asking 'DO I WANT TO FEEL LIKE THIS?'

    but this first time the 3rd element of the PC
    is introduced as the Way Out of Being in One of Two Minds But In Control
    Rather than Just Accepting Being in One of Two Modes of Action ...

    1:38 until 2:22 he uses very clever mental and emotional manipulation. He starts with "imagine a martian came down" but by the end of the sentence he's talking about someone running around the theater having a leg attack and the audience don't know how the topic changed and they feel confused. He then comments about how we feel unsettled because despite the fact we were sitting still our thoughts are flying all over the place (because he painted the picture of someone running around the theater). By explaining accurately to us how we feel, he puts himself in the driving seat of our mind. After making us confused, he reassures us that we "are not alone" to bring us back to liking him after he wrestles control. He now has us blindly accepting anything he says while seeing him as a wise and trustworthy person.

    • @raynic1173
      @raynic1173 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy crap, I was thinking the same thing. Colin, it maybe wrong if it's just a bunch of goobly-goop and it just sounds good and sensible, because he says it sensible and everyone else is wow yeah, ok maybe, and it doesn't make sense because you just don't get it or it sounds like it makes sense so it must be true. And bla, bla, bla, there have been many a theory that has been squashed over time. One thing that confused me was when he said that chimps want to live in the jungle and humans want to live in the city, implying that chimps are not communal, they are very communal and live in troops. He got that wrong. so what else is wrong

    Steve Peters is working currently working with Liverpool FC. One of his clients, Ronnie O'Sullivan, says that LFC will win the premier league because of Peters. Given that they are on the verge of this, and given that no team outside of the top three from the previous year, let alone 7th has accomplished this goes to show how successful his methods are. Thank you thank you thank you Dr Peters!!

      O'Sullivan lost his world title this year. Was that also because of Peters'? Probably. Peters had been working with O'Sullivan for at least 2 to 3 years. Yet he failed to address the chimp-factor that reduces O'Sullivan's capacity to play at his best. I think Peters isolated the problem ok, he knew it was about the chimp, but he didnt/doesnt know how to address it. Back to the drawing board.

    How does Meditation fit into this?

    • @SuperSuperCriddler
      @SuperSuperCriddler 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't. Meditation is about connecting with and integrating your organism at the deepest level. This approach appears to be about fragmenting it and shutting down certain parts - being 'unnatural', as Dr. Peters says. It may work for elite sportsman performing 'unnatural' tasks but I wonder whether it might not also be very harmful.

    • @watersjg

    • @orfeas8
      @orfeas8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SuperSuperCriddler You are talking about ''forced'' meditation. I can understand exactly what you mean, I had the same opinion on this for years. But, ''forced'' meditation is the one in which people put themselves into patterns, (from fear of facing the emotions that come from confronting the real matters as they are, which may be unpleasant to them and and as an act to prevent the mental pressure overload - some Logic, survival instict in this - ) and this is very unnatural yes. But, ''forced'' meditation, unfortunately, is how most people perceive meditation as this is one type of meditation and probably not the one they want for acheiving long-termed calmness (as they tend to get away from finding a solution to their problem) but a very short-termed Relief instead, so this method if it is prolonged they basically put themselves in a slumber trying to keep themselves forcefully calm (and by this I do not mean you should just go beat your boss, because he is the one who put you into this stressful situation, but put your mind, control your instict and act with Logic), instead of waking up and living true, fact which indeed is very harmful.

    Is there any actual solid science behind all this? It does come across as typical mumbo jumbo self help book-selling fare to me I'm afraid.
    I know he's supposedly had success with sports stars but does he provide any sources to what he's actually talking about when he says things like "the little bit in the middle decided to push it's way out to the edge of the brain"?! He certainly doesn't in his book anyway as I've just skim read it.
    I know it's debatable whether psychiatry is an actual science but peer reviewed sources are usually cited in the discipline aren't they? Can anyone point me in the direction of some that could explain what Dr Steve Peters is actually talking about here?

    • @watersjg
      @watersjg 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I doubt a qualified psychiatrist will be coming out with junk neural science, but it sounds like you are looking for a reason to disbelieve his claims. Perhaps your inner chimp isn't comfortable with change. :)

    • @Cushpot
      @Cushpot 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jeff Waters
      On the contrary I welcome change with open arms provided it's based on reality. Unfortunately there are many PhD qualified individuals flogging junk science these days (see Bruce Lipton's bullcrap for example). I'm not necessarily saying Dr Peters' chimp model isn't based on solid science, nor am I looking for a reason not to accept his ideas. Reliable verified sources is all I'm asking for. Anyone??

    • @watersjg
      @watersjg 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My view is that if a technique sounds plausible and if there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that it works, then the best approach is to try it for yourself. If it doesn't work, you've wasted a bit of time and if it does work then it could transform your life.
      Liverpool FC work with Dr Peters, and they are in with a great chance of winning this Premiership this season, with a squad that were nothing special last season. That could be co-incidence, and it could also be co-incidence that Ronnie O'Sullivan suddenly became Mr Calm and Consistent after employing Dr Peters, but it does make me wonder...

    • @Cushpot
      @Cushpot 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again... and the science is??! Sources, facts, evidence; anything that's not solely from Mr Peters' imagination!? Placebo might work for a while, for some; but don't count on it solving long term issues. Jeez look at Liverpool this season (my team by the way); gutted :-(

    Once again, psychology gets credit for using christian concepts. For some chimp reason, the majority of smart-iluminated atheists prefere the chimp-human game instead of the angel and deamon version. Previously the confession became psychotherapy...but aren t we juuuust amaizing for inventjng and using science? Thr one that "knows better than religion"...?

    • @AdamantSeraph
      @AdamantSeraph 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kylecarbray7723 good job, Sherlock! But if you would have the slightest interest of understanding what you are trying to contradict and read some teology, you will maybe understand how personifying ideeas help us acces our inner world....well, Jung said it aswell. But he had the huge merit of showing the links without getting credit for either of the psychological or religious realm. Both ways are attempts of getting a grip on the ideea that trigger or poses your actions.However, goodluck for imagining a chimp knowing that it does not exist instead of believing in the threat of your inner daemon.

    • @jordanthomas7702
      @jordanthomas7702 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Inventing science". Very interesting. Angel-demon concept is the Christian version, that and chimp-human stems from Darwin's theory of evolution. You can't deny the science behind things regardless of who created the world or whichever God you believe in. Your "chimp", your "inner demon" whatever it is, it's all a concept. A way of personifying your struggles or projecting the negative traits of yourself onto the influence of something else without accepting it's a part of you and starting to change. It all links back to how our own minds work. How we perceive things, and believe in concepts and ideas presented to us. After all, the Bible or the Quaran is only a book unless you believe.
