the way Nucky tries the charm on Tommy with that greasy smile but it couldn't save him and was the default negotiation he tried to use, incredible acting, directing and writing this series had.

Nuckies original sin came back to him at the very end. A well deserved fate. Poor Tommy had to pay with his life as well. Nucky truly became a monster at the side of another monster (Commodore).
I just rewatched the series. The season felt a little rushed, just with the syndicate angle, but I think this season is my favorite. The flashbacks really gave you a look into why Nucky is who he is
I agree, especially with how slow the previous season was. It took them half the season to move the pieces. And this season suffered a shorter runtime in it's stead. But great TV nonetheless.
Nucky became one of the most powerful corrupt politicians and gangster; it cost the innocence of helpless young girl who he betrayed. Sacrificing his morals and good nature to get ahead and be part of the game. Worst of all, Nucky never truly made strong commitments to help the Darmodies; he just wrote them off with money and continued immersing himself in greed and crime. The grandmother he betrayed, the son he murdered and the grandson who could never have a happy and normal life. The gunshot in the cheek is obviously and brilliantly meant to mirror what he did to James, hence the tragedy of the Darmody family comes full circle.
I love that this show ends exactly like the first Red Dead Redemption game. Main character dies and one of characters kills the man who killed his father.
What the fuck happened to Tommy?? At the time he was rescued by Richard and Julia he hated Gillian so much that he wouldn't even walk a step closer to her. After seven years staying with Julia, he all of a sudden got Nostalgia with his mima? For me it would be a better excuse if Tommy wanted to revenge for Richard, or James than for Gillian.
I think it was for his father. The flashbacks didnt really matter , it showed how Nucky ''sold her'' . However, i think revenge was for his father and the most coolest thing is that he shot him in same place where Nucky shot James.
Yeah I think the show set that up to show the karma he had coming but Tommy ultimately did it for Jimmy and I always saw it as revenge for his dad. Overall I was disappointed in the final season though

I literally just binged the heck out of this show in 5 weeks. You miss a lot of key details… for instance: a 7 year time jump from S4 to S5. I was so confused when he revealed himself as Tommy
This is my third time to watch the series, one of the best series on HBO. The thing that still sticks in my craw... when did Gillian get the chance to go "on and on" to Tommy about how Nucky killed Jimmy? The kid was 6 or 7 when Gillian went to prison. He was raised by Richard's wife and sister. When I watched it the first time... the revenge thing just didn't fit. Lazy writing. Beside the fact that Nucky Thompson died of old age... artistic license strikes again. That's the only gripe I have about all 5 seasons... loved the show.
well, you're right. Kinda it's true that Gillian didn't have time to tell Tommy about it, but Julia had. Harrow had to tell her about Nucky killing Jamie, when they pressed charges on Gillian to get Tommy. Then Julia was raising Tommy herself, she easily could have told Tommy the truth at some point. I'd say it's not a big blooper, they just didn't show Julia telling it to Tommy, but if they did show it, there wouldn't be such a shocking scene at the end because viewer would expect the outcome

Man. What an eneing. I almost feel like the flashbacks should have just been tacked onto the beginning of the show, instead of the end. Being able to watch many of the characters we know while they are young, and watching them grow into thr mob characters we see in the real first season sounds like a better direction to me. Alas, we got all this important context in the end. I am oleased with thr ending though. The entire show is something of a Greek tragedy. The Gillian saga has it written all over. She even alludes to this theme in the first few seasons with her antics. A good, tragic ending befiting a good show. Sure there were some inconsistent writing, illogical and unwanted outcomes throughout. Chalky's/Narcisse's beef is one of them. But a good show aa i said.

So, Tommy will have a beef for something his grandma, who he doesn't even like and barely remembers, told him, (because of course Gilliam will talk in detail about her past to a four year old) even though he was raised by a loving family (Erasing everything good about Richard's sacrifice)... Also, his plan was to be accepted by chance by Doyle, working for him for weeks, became close to Nucky, to then leave, and find him randomly because a problem with the law... Again, lazy writing. Such a shame because the rest of the show it's a 10/10

This was obviously a rushed forced in 'the past will come back to bite you in the Ass' Hollywood cliches that white people for some reason love so much they over use it in almost all their movies for instance the Star Wars series the lord of the rings series damn near all the scary movies use this cliche like the scream series (the whole scream franchise is based on this idea) Friday the 13th,nightmare on elm street, Halloween, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST summer( title self-explanatory) and a thousand more I'm sure I'm forgetting....anyway that's why people like me was dissatisfied. And they did a good job staying true to real events in their on fictional way up until Nuckys death. The guy Nuckys based on wasn't murdered and died a old man of natural causes so why not get his story right out of all the others they got right like obannion Capone Luciano rothstein colisimo torrio marazano and maserria they got all their stories acurracte except the man who the show revolved around

It was probably more for his father since you know Nucky killed Jimmy. And its not a stretch to think Tommy found out about this during the time skip.
